defoliation question..... anyone familiar with it?

you are right. and i am familiar with it. but there are points in which both of those books contradict each other on certain subjects. and jorge mostly talked about outside grows with lots of space, not inside of a cabinet, limited space. so yea i never said i got it out of the book, but experimenting is fun just like you pointed out, and i dont need convincing, which so many of you gentlemen fail to realize, what i did ask for was opinions from people who have defoliated, and judging from your text you have, although you failed to answer the question either way just a quote from a book i obviously have, im going to assume you didnt have a good experience with it...... wouldnt that have been better to say, than "AHAH i seen that book", if you read through thread this has been mentioned several times that jorge dosent agree with defoliation , while other growers do. so to each his own, there is no need to convince or debate on share real world experiences thank you. peace

Ahh, to be honest I haven't read the Ed Rosenthal book, I'll have to check it out.

I did already mention a personal experience (that I posted much earlier in this thread which is buried by now, so I understand why you didn't see it), about a side by side between myself and another more experienced grower, that really convinced me. And I have done a few tests on defoliating myself. While I didn't see positive results, I do admit it's possible you may experience different results for sure. Different strains, different setups, ect. Like I was saying, I wasn't trying to start an argument. I pointed to the book because talk is cheap, I don't post pics so my stories hold very little weight. I didn't realize the other book said different, don't I feel stupid now lol.

.....i followed AN schedule.... because your right i dont know what they need or how to feed them.
And there you have it folks. Blindly following a schedule, sucking up to a bunch of shysters with their stupid charts rather than taking the time to learn what makes a plant tick.

You know, I see this stupidity so many times in cannabis forums it just makes me sick.

And what help does that post provide.

Just follow my earlier advice and they will come back good, swithing nutes should be done at half strength till you can see what it does they can be very different from what you used earlier.

thanks, since didnt know what to do i just put them in fresh water for about 2 days then put back nutes... I should have listen to AN they suggested straight water and clearing solution for seventh week.. i didnt listen.. i figured since the sour kush goes 10 weeks , the strawberry coughs would be alright with one more week of nutes.... I was wrong. they were right

yes ed rosenthal does advocate cutting fan leaves in confined grows, but im sure someone naming themselves a supertramp knows more than him i mean come on!!

quick update on my plant for you guys to bash , have at it with my blessings,View attachment 2513066View attachment 2513067View attachment 2513068View attachment 2513069View attachment 2513070View attachment 2513072View attachment 2513073View attachment 2513074View attachment 2513075View attachment 2513076 my next experiment consists of the 6 sour kush clones pictured i will be defoliating three and using uncle ben's four top method on the other three
You wasted your time earlier in the grow chopping leaves. You should have just let the grow progress. The plants poor health and how it was cared for has defoliated for you.......

And Ed advocates clearing some of the lower growth to aid in air flow through the plant. I have never heard him state using defoliation as a mean of increasing yield.

Ok I fed up with all underthe bullshit I hear with no fact to back it up. So with years of experience of trying and learning different thing uncle Ben should know what he's talking about.
Truth is though none of you that say you know it all can not put this to bed once and for all without knowledge. Uncle Ben I heard you make reference to hormones, which really interest me as this I feel this week I saw something that helped mymy understanding. I'll explain.
I friend of mine has a grow and he just tops the plant once. He is growing female seeds lemon kush, which has really big indicate leaves and upon checking out his plant, I noticed that on the lower levels the big fan leaves were covering some buds. When I lifted the fan leaves the bud under it was no different to the buds around it that wasn't being covered. We use aqua farms and grow big plants and at wks 4 lights are normally tied straight to the pole.
This got.me thinking about light penetration and hormones.
Anyone that has seen my pics has not commented, I'm on wks 6 and am growing super lemon haze and this is the best.plant I've done so far is.
I've never.grown super lemon haze before in my setup, but have grown lemon skunk and it was horrible stretch plant. It seems to have controlled the stretch and there is loads of.room for air flow but not.sure now.about the.light penetration thing. I have added supplement lighting in my room the form of 2 125 v hanging cfls. For me its about learning and trying new things here's a pic what does everyone think about it

And the apple that is "shaded" is no better or worse than that exposed to full sun high in the canopy.

If you are training a plant (bending and tying down) in a effort to make a side shoot grow like an apical tip, would the trimming of fan leaves shading the young shoot be necessary to expose it to the light? In this case, wouldn't the shoot you are training to become the dominant growing tip need to receive the most exposure to light?

Or does apical dominance occur with the uppermost shoot, regardless of light exposure?

Thanks.

Clearly these are not apples.

This is training branches to come out by defoliation in veg to produce 54 inch plants with 4 oz colas plus multiple one oz tops just count the strings.

The pictures are of the front half the back half is very substantial but shorter with more frost the big ones in front of the light keep growing.

The interior bud just below the heavy tops has no bud I could still clone from the interior tops with no bud and have no reveg.
Just look at the right of the drywall square in the first pic and see buds that look to be three weeks old because they didn't get direct light.
look at the bottom there are plenty of nice buds lower on the plant that stretched to find light and grew but the ones higher up that didn't receive direct light are nothing.

So no one with any real answer, so here's the question? What happens to the plant when leaves are plucked?

Can someone please explain the science behind this defoliation
The point to veg defoliation is by removing the fan leaves you force the tiny leaves on the branches to become fans to replace the leaf mass in about three days making the branches grow faster if done a few times it really makes a dense bush.

Tonight after work I'll update my grow log you can see the progress from day one all the way to now but I have many pictures to sort and upload.

Ever seen Lindsey Buckingham playing acoustic guitar on his song "Looking for Love"? What an incredible guitarist he is, and a great voice too. Watch his concert, time was about 2004 or so. He plays so ferociously, with such intensity that his fingers are bleeding by the end of the concert.

Very healthy, green leaves on those nice plants!

What a bunch of BUTCHERS! Why cut leaves off a perfectly healthy plant? Just to watch them grow back and slow the plants NORMAL growth sequence ?
I'm ashamed to say I've read the entire thread
