HORTILUX, says SUNPULSE are the only bulb that works with high frequency digital ballasts on the market today. per the March issue of High Times "BEST BULBS and Ballasts", but I would listen to real growers with real exp. b4 HT.

No probs with my Lumatek Dimmable yet. All electronic equipments has the potential to fail. Heat will definately contribute alot to a digi ballast blowing though I would say.

What about Digilux. People sware by them. they are the most efficient, powerful bulb on the market at 155,000 lumens for an hps. Ive seen one bulb grow 400 plants in a heaxagonal pvc garden on this site pretty recently.

There are a couple things about digitla ballasts that make them a necessity

-They operate on less of amp load than magnetics allowing to fit more in your grow without tripping your breaker
-They support high efficiency digital bulbs
-They can run longer distances of lamps cords up to 140 ft (think giant light rails)
-They put off less heat and it makes a bigger difference if your running more than three ballasts.
-They are silent therefore a little stealthier

I went with a Quantium series 600 watt digital ballast for this exact reason.. I heard the lumateks suck ass.. So far I have had know problems with this ballast even though we have had several outages in my area do to high winds.. I'm thinking of grabing a couple more..

Well got me a new 1000 watt Extra sun MH/HPS ballest and a new Eye bulb,,,Just set it up so far so good,,,I also had the Xtra sun 6 inch air cooled hood. The new ballest has a 5 year

warrenty also.. What a difference in the size of the Bulbs Yea,,,also the new Eye say's the are compatable with electronic ballests,,,on the package,,,My old bulbs did not...So I guess the

New bulbs arre compatable.

I bought my gear about 4 months ago. A nextgen 600/400, a 600w Eye HPS, a 400w Eye MH, and the Xtrasun 6" hood. I was a bit nervous, cause it was a package deal, and reasonably priced at.... Wait for it. $420.00... It seemed too good to be true, but has done me well so far. When the ballast is on the 400 MH, it doesn't even get warm. It heats up a little on the 600w, but not much at all. I know it hasn't been long enough to say just yet, but so far so good.... so what?

I dont know because i have not used either yet. But i dont know a nextgen ballast and a digilux light looks like a good set up to me. The light as bright as heck and the ballast like a lap top so quiet and small lol

well I found that quote in the March 2011 issue of HT
so I thought that was a current statement , but it really doesn't matter as I said I would trust the opinions of exp. growers . So I'm not sure I get your point other than wanting to sound smarter than me.If that floats your boat then happy sailing !

Digital Ballasts suck! I bought one and have had nothing but problems with it. I like to run dual-arc bulbs and EYE Hortilux Blue bulbs, well apparently Galaxy digital ballasts (at least when they first came out) wont run them. Also cost savings is bullshit - it would take 12 years to break even using digital VS. magnetic, and the piece of shit wont last that long anyway. One Cavemans opinion.

Well I gotta disagree here. They are not silent. Maybe quieter than magnetic but they do generate more noise than I was expecting.
