First official grow in progress!

Well the day has finally arrived! I have everything set up for both stages of growth and I now have 3 Dutch Dragon seeds and 3 Hawaiian Maui Waui seeds which I successfully germinated (6/6) with the paper towel method. The seeds are now in Jiffy Seed Starting Soil mix with a 20% mixture of Miracle Gro Perlite in Jiffy peat strips. They are currently under my 24" Hydrofarm and I am hoping to see a plant breaking through within the next 2-3 days! Below are some pics of my home made flowering chamber which I can't wait to use in a month or so. Thanks for everyone's help in getting me started and I'll keep you posted on the new and exciting details!

First pic is the cabinet from the front with no light protection.

Second pic is the exhaust fan with an additional circulation fan below it to move air between plants.

Third pic is the inside of the cabinet with the light off. Shows all 3 fans. Newest pic would show a temperature gauge and humidity gauge.

Last pic is the exhaust out with the surge protector on the back. Surge protector would be connected to the wall via a timer for the 12/12 stage.

Please let me know if you see anything I missed! I'd like to catch it before I start to flower in about 5 to 6 weeks here.

Some additional info on my box: only a 70w HPS bulb (will remove the outer casing for more even light distribution) but it's good for the space I think. Reflective material is Reflectix, a reflective insulation material used in house manufacturing. It keeps the box to about 75 degrees inside with no changes.

Thanks again guys!

Ahh I'm excited, I woke up this morning to see my first sprout ever popping through the soil. I have since added Miracle Gro Blood Meal to the top of my soil for extra N and also bought 5 medium sized pots for my successful grows. What do you think of the stealth setup? I live in an apartment so it's absolutely necessary to be as discrete as possible.

First picture is of my first sprout, yay!

Second picture is my stealth grow setup in the closet.

Third picture is the growth space in the flowering chamber with the added 5 pots.

Last picture is a view of all of my current seedlings (100% germination -- 5 maui waui, 4 dutch dragon). 3 were planted 2 days ago, 3 yesterday and 3 today, so everything is moving along like clockwork.

does that insulation cause any problems as far as heat buildup inside the cabinet? also with taking that cover off the light you might notice an increase in temp...

thanks brother! :joint:

I just had another shoot come up today. I bought that CFL earlier and it must have really helped out! haha. I also took 1 seed of each strain and buried them outside. I'm going to check back in 30 days to see what they look like just out of pure curiosity.

Well I now have 2 plants developing their first 2 sets of leaves. My first one DIED! Anyone know why? My soil mixture is listed above with about 20% perlite and 1/2 tsp. of blood meal. It shot up from the soil and I noticed the seed never quite cracked off it was on top of the plant and it just stopped growing.

hey very intresting i plan on something along those line's but something alittle neater.... smaller vents less light showing and white paper not foil on inside.. the steel screen = great idea.. looks very good for first try .. also mind sharing some experience ... how ez was it to hook up the timer and about how much did it cost u for the whole setup and once ur plants get going i would like to hear about odor production and how u manage the size of the plant

took the plunge........ you wont regret it
im almost half way through my 2nd attempt at a flouro gro. I was ultimately successful on the 1st attempt with 2 4-foot shoplights (160w total). I just bought 130w total of CFL floodlights to add this time around. Cant wait to see what happens

i must clarify that i qualify success as 1 plant that produced approx 1.5ounces of super sweet smoke. Her sister maybe produced .25ounce of some anorexic looking stuff.
My redneck math came up with approx 3200 lumens the first time around w/ just the shoplights, and now im adding an additional 9100 lumens. Bigger better right?

Hey I'll take 1.5oz of nice bud anytime. Good job! I haven't mentioned this so far but my sprouts are currently getting 1800 lumens from the two 24" Agrobrite tubes and 2,800 lumens from the 42w CFL+reflector for a total of 4,600 lumens in pre-vegetative stage. In about a week when all of the plants have shot up a little more, I'm going to add the Fluorex Fluorescent Security Flood Light I ordered, which is about 5,000 lumens so I'll have 9,600 lumens for my vegetative stage. Anyway, I digress.

The real point of my post today was to add the 4 other pictures I took today! :joint:

The first picture is of my four last survivors  Hopefully they stay alive long enough to sex them.

The second picture is well... now you see it...

3: Now you don't.

Lastly, where are the cords??? There's nothing in that damned closet! Oh wait... what is this hole in the wall... oh it seems to come out the other side of the living room... behind the couch... weird.

I'm probably going to veg a little shorter than most only because the exact space of my grow space is not that large and if I am going to be LSTing I don't want my plant to get out of control!

i feel u im using a sog method cuz i sell and u got 4 plants just top them once and make sure most of your light are fosued on the top so the plants wont bush out to much ,but still have a few lights on the side ,its up to u

Listen, here's the deal guys. I have 4 plants left out of 9 and not to be impatient or anything, but it's either day 4 or day 5 for these plants and they are barely an inch tall. I feel like they should be taller. Common sense indicated that I'm doing something wrong if i've lost 5 plants this early and my other 4 are very slow. I saw someone else's thread on here and for their day 9 it was nuts compared to mine. Obviously I'm doing something wrong or I have the SLOWEST plants in the world!
