First time grow and using CFLs

Thanks guys. Appreciate the comments and I'm pretty stoked on how they're coming along.
Got two more clones the other day that are Green Kush and Hindu Skunk from Oaksterdam that I'm getting excited about too. I plan on vegging the newbies out longer so I can try my luck at cloning.

They just opened an Oakstermdam campus in Flint, Michigan. I really want to go, did you attend? It looks awesome, I am trying to get into a caregiver role and want to learn all I can. My plants are looking tiny compared to yours! Good work!

No I haven't attended, yet. Been thinking about it though. I'm just not sure I can swing it. I'm a contractor and the invites to bid jobs are finally starting to come back around so I have been spending most if my time pursuing jobs and stuff. I didn't make much money last year due to the economy and nerd to try and make up for the soft year. I'll just have to see how it plays out.

Bro I highly suggest LST (low strength training those plants). or build a scrog. you want to have the most "bud spots" possible. Buy some pipe cleaners, or use string to LST them around the pot. search the site for some awesome LST tutorials, its hella easy.
Your grow looks pretty good man, I will subscribe and see how it goes.

I have been doing LST with the White widow but the Skunk didn't like it. The growth slowed a bunch when I tied it down. The cola forming way of to the side on the Widow is the "main" btw. I'm not going to tie down any more branches but I'm leaving the ones that are already tied down how they are.

Here's a few pics I took with my new camera yesterday. My old one got busted when I got run over by my buddy's kid on our dirtbikes around New Years. All of the previous pics were from my iPhone.
I reduced these from their original size but they're still kinda big.

Here's a couple pics taken yesterday so it's been just over 2 weeks sinice I switched the light cycle for flowering and just over a week since they started to show bud. They're getting bigger and showing lots of buds. The White Widow appears to have multiple colas forming so I'm pretty stoked.
I ended up with some extra space so I built a couple rooms in the corner of my garage for growing. Now that I've done that I'm wishing I'd vegged these out longer so they'd be bigger. I'll veg the two other clones I have longer so it will be interesting to see what kind of difference I get in the yield. I just need to get some more lights for the veg room because right now they don't have near the amount of light these got for veg.

I took the original cabinet apart today since I don't need it anymore. I thought I had done a lot of planning before starting this grow but I guess it wasn't enough.

Since starting the grow I've modified the original cabinet, modified the light setup and now done away with the cabinet completely in exchange for "closets" I built in my garage.

Now I'm trying to decide if I want to get a small HPS light setup in the flower room and move the 68watt CFLs to the veg room or get a small MH light for the veg room and stick with the CFLs for the rest of this grow. Just kind of getting tired of having to rush to the flower room when the lights turn back on to make sure there aren't any leaves or buds getting burned from touching the lights.

I've got a few leaves that are burnt from touching the lights for 10-15 minutes before I could get to them and a couple leaves that are burnt from getting water with nutes mixed in it on them. Other than that though they look good and are coming along pretty well I think. They're healthy looking and look like they will produce a good amount of bud using the CFLs so I'm leaning towards sticking with them for these two plants and adding a MH light to the veg room. The poor kids in there don't have near the same amount of light these have and it's showing in their rate of growth.

What do you kids think?

Here's a few pics of the new "closets" and stuff. I didn't have any more chain so I had to raise the plants up to the lights in the flower room. Thinking of using some of the material from the old cabinet to make a shelf for them to sit on instead of whats there now. Either that or get more chain and set them on the floor. hmmm....

Going to put up a couple small shelves in the veg room to hold the nutes, jars and stuff too.

Looks like you can go either way, as both HPS and CFL work fine - as you know there are countless threads about 'em and their advantages/disadvantages...

Anyway, the only thing I can think of is that you already have a CFL setup now, so you could finish this grow with them while perfecting your new cab... and then switch to a new HPS system if you're unsatisfied with the yeld... just sayin'... :)

About the MH I simply can't tell, I read next to nothing about them 'cuz I focused on the other two.

Congrats on your grow for now tho, good luck and keep us updated :) ;)

Thanks!
I forgot to attach the pics of the new rooms but edited the post.

That's most likely what will happen. From what I've read here on RIU it sounds like MH lights are ideal for veg and HPS are ideal for flower if a person was to go the HID route for lighting. So I'll probably get a MH light for primary lighting in the veg room and supplement with CFLs. Then when these two are harvested get a HPS light for primary lighting in the flower room and supplement with CFLs in there as well.

Checked out your grow and it looks pretty good. So you went 12/12 from seed on the two smaller plants? I didn't LST my WW nearly that much but it still has a bunch of buds forming on it. Good luck man.

I repotted my smaller plants Last night and upgraded their lighting a little. Finally remembered to take some pics that show my DIY CFL reflector that I've been using for a couple weeks on the flowering plants too.

Check out the pics, comments and opinions are wlecome...

Oh yeah, found some bugs on the WW tonight after the two plants sitting under a shelf that was covered with a moving blanket all day today. I pulled them out and covered them up this morning and the power went out for seven hours so I couldn't finish the work I started until this evening. Now I see tiny bugs and what looks like tiny webs all over the WW.

thanks man :) you're doin' pretty good as well, good thinking on the lighting ;-) I'm going to follow ur thread :bigjoint:
and yeah the small ones are WW 12/12 - but one is about to leave for a friend's cab, as I have room for two only.

Kinda bummed right now. Been noticing something with the WW plant and realized late last night that its mites. Was only on the one plant last night that I could tell but now I can see they definitely spread to the Skunk plant and the plants in the veg room are now looking like the WW did about a week ago. Got some solid advice this morning from SimpsonSampson420 and will be starting treatment today. Going to pick up some Neem oil too to try and keep them away once it appears they are gone.
Props to SimpsonSampson420 for being so willing to help us noobs. Dude seems really cool and very knowledgeable. Thanks man!

It appears the Mites are dead already but I'll keep spraying them down every 3-4 days as suggested for the next couple weeks and then I'll start with the Neem oil if they really are gone. What a relief man.

Scored a couple 150 watt HPS lights yesterday on the cheap but they don't have any reflectors. I'll make something for them from aluminum I think and polish it up real nice :-P. I won't put be using them though until these two plants are done. I want to see what kind of yield I get from the CFLs and then use the HPS to finish out the two little ones and see what kind of difference there is, if any.
