Medical Marijuana Arrests; Calif. Isn't Mellow Yet

"More than 30 people were arrested last week in San Diego on charges of illegally distributing marijuana — part of the city's crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries.
California was the first state in the nation to legalize pot for medical use, back in 1996. But in the past year, the number of dispensaries all across the state has increased dramatically because of a relaxation in enforcement by the federal government.
Still, the recent raids in San Diego show that there's still plenty of disagreement over what's medical, and what's recreational, when it comes to smoking pot."

Nice...I saw that.

On a side note there were many dispensaries that were not raided but closed their doors. I'm helping a few lease spaces. Some are moving in where others got raided. LOL

Just so I'm clear...you all are saying there were not 23 arrests in San Diego a few months and there were not 8 arrests in 2008. That's what you're saying right?

You guys are so elitist. You assume that since you don't know about that it's not happening. Please...

Edit, based on all your past posts that is what I'm assuming. It's pretty clear you guys are not following what is going on. Here is the link to the most recent round of raids. Keep in mind this article is months old. Since then one of the 23 went to court and was acquited by a 12 person jury.

Yes and this is local govt doing it, has nothing to do with Obama as you kept saying. Thanks for proving my point.

You're so hard headed.

Dude the DEA used local law enforcement for support. This was a federal raid.
This is one of those threads where the original PO is so uninformed and so far removed from what is happening that he'll slide in and deliver a jab response then leave.

Love it...

The data is so overwhelming that he really doesn't know what to do. Please come back and play.

Oh guys Im SO SORRY I let having a LIFE get in the way of our discussion. From now on I will do my best to not have a life so i can sit by my computer and hit refresh all day! Perhaps you could give me some tips on how you do it so well...

As for the subject, i didn't read shit in those articles about the federal government. Even less how this is somehow directly related to Obama. Looks like San Diego has the problem with pot. Sticking with the theme of this thread, would anybody like to venture a guess what political party that district attorney belongs to? Thats right, she is a Republican. An open lesbian Republican at that. You don't see that everyday...

It was not a federal raid. It was a San Diego county raid and none of those arrested are being prosecuted in federal court. Still pulling those facts out of your ass I see.

No one is saying Obama pulles the trigger. The DEA is federal. It's that simple.

Yes she's a republican and very hostile to the MMJ world. It's California. Things are different here. Our Republican mayor is for gay marriage. Wonder why you never hear this? Could it be media bias??? Hmmm...

The raids were federal and you can follow a thread better by going down a little (no pun intended) to "notification type" there you can select how you would like to be updated about a thread. I select no email. When I log in go to "my rollitup" and it shows threads you have no seen updates of.

Just admit dude. The DEA is federal. Actually, we don't need you to admit it. Everyone knows. Keep in mind this is just a fraction of all raids going on in MMJ "friendly" states.

What a bunch of sillyness. Which political party you affiliate with really boils down to whether or not your party is friendly to MJ users? You think maybe MJ is too big a part of your life?

The fact is "liberals" attempt to take away your freedoms by forcing you to be included in the "group" concept of socialism. Forcing away your individual rights to theoritically advance the whole and leave no one behind...

"Conservatives" attempt to take away your freedoms with oppressive legislation that directly endangers those freedoms.

Everyone in government is out to do one thing. Maintain or grow their control. That's what the entire game is, it's not to advance an agenda for the American people, it's to advance the agenda that best suits them. Maintaining control and power is all part of the silly game they play up there and to argue about which one is oppressive is redundant AND divicive. In our current country, both party's are filled with corrupt, power grubbing people out to get your A) Money and to B) Expand their power and control.

Works a lot better for them when all of the people are divided and too blind to see what's going on anyway.

Im well aware that the DEA is federal. Im also aware that neither things posted said ANYTHING about the DEA or FEDERAL prosecution. It did however say an awful lot about San Diego counties DA and San Diego county prosecuting. WHAT DO YOU NOT COMPREHEND ABOUT THIS???? It was NOT a federal raid. It had nothing to do with Obama, Bush, your mom, or anybody other than San Diego county and apparently their disdain for marijuana.

As for notifications. It doesn't matter. Im not gonna drop what im doing anytime day or night so I can come on RIU and respond to you. So if you make a response and i don't reply within 15 minutes. Just wait longer... k

I agree with what you are saying to an extent. Except it isn't so much that "Liberals" and "Conservatives" are doing that as POLITICIANS that are. You can be liberal or conservative and not be wanting to oppress peoples freedoms. We should really all be on the same team. But both sides have produced a great division which in reality insures that they will be able to continue business as usual.

I agree it's mostly the goons in the white house right now more so that the system of beliefs themselves.

I am a member of the republican party, but I hate both sides pretty equally. I am only a member of the republican party because in THEORY they are the party in the pursuit of LESS federalized gov't. More power to the states. Our forefathers knew that this country (even just geographically, let alone with it's great diversity) would be too large to be governed by all-powerful federal gov't.

When they all got together with the concept of this new UNION of states they could clearly see that with the 13 different states they couldn't possibly agree on all issues. The only solution that was proper for this country then, and is proper for this country now is to let states decide and let states manage and run their own governments.

We don't need the federal gov't to tell us who can have an abortion. The states don't need the federal gov't to collect the money and build the hospitals, roads, schools, or any other infrastructure. It's completely unnecessary. Obviously the goons IN the federal gov't feel differently and you can't expect them to attempt to do any less.

Gov't will always try to grow it's own power and it's up to the people to control them. The problem is that this next generation is not ready or equipped to do that. They would rather have 636 people decide what will happen for the 360,000,000+ people in this country.

Neither party is moving in the right direction, but the liberals are quicker to roll over and not see what's reallly going on. I think that about 89% of the people would be liberatarian if they knew what it meant. Our forfathers were.

From NORML...

The US DEA was present at some of the raids, and federal charges have reportedly been filed against two people, which means 5-10 year mandatory minimum sentences are possible even for small players. Other than a raid at a San Francisco collective in March, one in Los Angeles in August, and a Lake County case that originated in 2005, these are the first raids since Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder announced that his administration would not prioritize medical marijuana cases. Medical marijuana collectives have proliferated since that announcement.

http://www.canorml.org/news/SDRaids.html

I implied all you implied none were federal. It's pretty clear that there is federal action going down. And I haven't even looked into anything outside of SD or anything after the SD raids. My guess is since the SD raids many others have had the DEA kick their doors in through out the state.

If we are talking about those in Washington, this is where you and I disagree. The Liberals are just being liberals. Healthcare reform, that isn't a shock coming from liberals. Cap and tax, thats no shock from liberals. Many Washington conservatives on the other hand call themselves conservative while pursuing what at times seemed to be an almost authoritarian agenda. Thats far from conservative. Not to mention they get a pass from their "conservative" pundits. Had the Bush administration done everything it did and the only difference being Bush was a Democrat. It would have been the sky is falling, Bush hates America, blah blah blah for 8 years from the Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity types. Not to mention all the arm chair conservatives like we find on this site. But there was none of that. So where is the loyalty? Is it with conservatism or is it with the Republican party?

I will commend you for finally producing something that showed federal involvement. It said 2 people had federal charges filed. So do you claim that during Bush's entire administration less than 2 people were ever arrested by federal authorities for medicinal marijuana crimes? That is the point you went out of your way to make. That some how under Obama more people have been arrested than ever under Bush. The President has nothing to do with what San Diego county does. Certainly not in this case. Simple as that....

I also noticed the raids were in September. The federal government didn't announce they would not pursue medical marijuana prosecution in states where it is legal until October.

If dealing with Obama for another 3 years will straighten out the Republican party I'm all good with that. I'm not terribly conservative... I just don't trust most on the left except folks like Gephart.

I would have voted for Hillary. Barrack won so I voted for the lamest candidate the Republicans have served up since Bob Doll. McCain is even softer than Obama.

Hillary is a tough chick and won't take shit from anyone. I don't think she would pursue this health care mess again either.

I personally would just rather be taxed to help get insurance for all the uninsured. Health Care clearly needs reform but not like this. My guess is half of the uninsured qualify for programs already in place.

I see no reason to reform health care on a federal level for 300million people to suit the needs of 45million...half of which probably qualify for some other program already in place.

22mil probably really need help. Tax me and I'll pay for some of their insurance. But don't flip the whole system upside down.

Being raided, having charges filed and then being found guilty/innocent are all different things. I pointed out the federal charges to show you that it's not zero. The fact still remains that the DEA raided and arrested 23 people just a few months ago. Everyone is running around thinking Obama is gonna fly in on a helicopter to save the day and it's not gonna happen. No president will do this.

I'm pretty sure that in SD there were more raids in 2009 then all of Bush's 8 years.

Even prior to the October announcement our Attorney General is on the record stating that he informed the DEA to back off...this was many many months ago.

The DEA is going to do what they always do. The CIA, the military...all things will continue like they have. Nothing has changed.
