Happy Frog or Ocean Forest?

So Ive just germinated my bag seeds.. hoping to get some females..

I'm starting them in 160z cups with a peat-based soil.. and when they root the cups I plan on transplanting them into 3 gallon pots with a mix of the same peat-based soil, MG organic soil, perlite, blood meal, bone meal, and dolomite lime.. and will water with distilled water and molasses every other watering...

my question is which Fox Farm soil should I purchase..

my local nursery carries 3 varieties all Fox Farm:

Original
Ocean Forest
Happy Frog

I've heard that some people feel that ocean forest can be too HOT for seedlings.. does that have some truth in it?

I have to purchase and plant my seedlings tomorrow night so time is defiantly of the essence

replies are greatly appreciated

thanks,

i'm using straight happy frog right now ... but it's alot cheaper then OF but i think you mixed HF with OF you'd have great results.. haven't used ocean forest yet but have heard it's great, but runs a little hot in nutes for some. I say mix em if you can

Try starting your seeds/clones in FF Light Warrior. Then transplant to a mix of OF and Light Warrior, around 75-25. That should take care of any potential burn, and it's a really nice and airy soil. Works very well.

Use Happy Frogs for seedlings because it has less nutes. I would mix them, good results ;-). They both have different things which are beneficial to the plant.

this is very true if you mix hf and of and a little perlite it is a great mix and it is alot easier on the babies then just all of.of is too strong for seedlings i think in my experiences

I have great luck with 1/3 ocean forest, 1/3 promix bx, and 1/3 light warrior. with a good handful of lime thrown in. runoff is always around 6.3 to 6.8

just planted my seedlings tonight.. went with a 66:33 ratio of ocean and light warrior.

thanks so much for everyones helpful advice and speedy replies!!

He has this backwards. You want to use the ocean forest first. It has essential nutes for seedlings, cuttings and early veg. Just be careful, do not add any nutes too early, ocean forest has enough already to carry them over for a few weeks. If you have the option of both, mix in 1 part happy frog to 3 parts ocean forest. The soil won't be as hot with nutes for your little ones. Then switch to the happy frog when you transplant them into a larger pot to flower.

All the mexican gardeners at my nursery say ocean forest is the best. I asked them if there is anything better and they said NO.

If you mixed 66% and 33% thats only 99% doesn't make sense, is that other 1% love? I add it every time I look at them and they work hard for my love.

I think you have it backwards. Light Warrior is a seed starting mix. Happy Frog is for younger plants and clones (can be used for seedlings as well). Ocean Forest is the hottest of the three. It has a lot of fish emulsion and crab and shrimp meals as well as bat guano and worm castings. :leaf:

curious ..why would you repot to happy frog after OF .. so you can start using nutes? i thought you would go the opposite route ...let the soil get hotter as the plants grow.. IM NOT EXPERT! but please if ya can... elaborate.

How is the grow going btw????? I didn't notice if he posted

Speaking of which ..i must edit my post... I'm planning on going straight HF through this grow as i did in my last.. anyone have an opinion on that.??? I don't know if i'll be able to mix with OC but it did me good the last time... Wondering what the drawback is with just going with a soil that isn't as hot???

I've gone start to finish in Happy Frog. No big deal, you'll just need to use more nutes. :bigjoint:
