first time grower here, I picked up a 65w CFL from Lowes and when I got home I realized the base is too large for a regular light socket. Is there an adapter or something I could buy? Any feedback helps! Thanks! IMG_3528.JPGIMG_3529.JPG

lol, that's a socket to usual reflectors.

I don't know specifics but a reflector should be able to hold that bulb....

but then your gonna need a ballast.....

what kind of growing you doing? Vegging?

Cuz you don't need nothing more than some dinky light bulbs for that.

HPS is the way to go for flowering IMO.

Dinky light bulbs for vegging you say. And ya no ballast needed :(. What lights are you using for veg, just curious?

Two things you can do. Get a Mogul E39 to Medium E26 adapter. They have them online at Amazon or dozens of other places.
Get a Mogul E39 socket and wire it up to a cord making your own fixture.

Also check if there is a recommended way to orientate that bulb it may not like being on its side and it will do for vegging but that's about it, I have better luck using T5's HO for vegging and ditched the bulbs a long time ago. Good luck with the grow and keep posting so there is help if needed.

What kind of ballast should he use? Like a 1000 watt, overdrive it maybe? And where can i purchase these "dinky" bulbs you speak of? Are they more better?

F'n dumbasses on this forum. And you know who you are.

Doesn't need a ballast just a mogul socket and it'll work fine upright or on it's side.

Just buy a mogul socket and wire it in in place of a regular socket. All the same except for the size.

Better to remain silent and be thought an idiot than proving you are by flapping your gums about things you obviously know nothing about. rotflmao.gif

either get the adapter, or return it for house hold cfl bulbs, u can usually buy them in 4 packs for about $10. they will be 26watt (100watt) 6500k bulbs, should say on the box

I've got an 85W CFL with a normal socket and it needs to be upright or have support if mounted horizontally so the socket doesn't break off. I'd prefer a mogul socket on it as it works great on smaller plants. It's 5000K.

I'm not even sure if they make an adapter that goes from regular size to mogul tho I have one that goes mogul to regular. Needed it for a 150W HPS bulb I wanted to use to light up the lower branches that I'd pollinated for free seeds. Didn't notice it had a regular socket until I went to use it. :)

I've tried the lower range bulbs u have and they usually fit into a normal screw light fitting u have around the house......imo their only good for raising clones......but......if u actually want them to grow u should get something like this......125w maxibright....

think i'll stick to my house hold ones, they come in 26watt 6500k color, great for vegging, especially a slow veg.

slowly been playing with the new led bulbs, trying a 60watt 5000k color one now in my veg room in addition to the 26watter i have in there now.....keepin my fingers crossed

A lot of guys are using small LED light bulbs to grow with now but they bust the diffuser off the bulb so the LED chips can shine directly on the plants. Should be able to find all sorts of references to it in the LED forum.

yeah that's what i did with this one, i poke my head in there a couple of times for some good info. Still do to figure out setups. Like the idea that u can mix and or seperate areas while keeping the same wattage of bulb but with the color light difference, just surprised they don't go up to 6500k color

They said the same about regular light bulbs and I have no problem getting all of those I want in 40/60/100W. About 50¢ each.

NY Times. Fake news. Sad. :)
Ace Hardware and Lowes near me are closeing out stock. CFL's are in the Lowes mark down isle. Call it fake till you turn around and the last are GONE. Walmarts have been with out for a couple months.
