So heat is your issue and you need more amps to run something to control your heat? How many amps are you currently working with?

Yezzir. I have a 20amp breaker and I'm running ~13. When I hit 15, I'm fucked. I started running my 135cfm extraction fan during the light period and since my room won't be sealed anymore, I just run the c02 for 12hrs on real low, too. I brought it down from 98F to ~89F by doing this, but the ladies are drinking RIDICULOUS amounts of water... At least 8g/day between the 4 of em, but I suppose that'll just have to do. If you've got any ideas, I'm all ears.

Just some pics I thought looked cool @ 2wks flowering.

Your temps are still on the high side. Get creative! Bring in air from outside, turn one of your lamps off, heck if you were running HID you could cool your hoods. What is the source of the heat?

typically i would agree with HB above, but i am thinking that you are probably trying to not be all conspicuous in your apartment complex. having a hepa intake filter popping out of a window would definitely catch a few eyes.

how about exchanging the air in the tent with a thermostat/speed controller on an inline fan, and use the heat to warm your apartment (turn off your heater)? i would also suggest putting a carbon filter in the tent for this fan (if you go with it or something similar) so that it doesn't make your spot smell overly crunk when those ladies start getting chunky.

Thanks guys! The source of the heat is coming from the 400w Solar Storm. That bitch runs hot. Oh, and the A/C is a 14,000 btu unit that's supposed to have "evaporation technology" so that you don't have to worry about water dripping, but that failed miserably this weekend and left me with a massive puddle. That's today's new pain-the-ass project, but I managed to put the a/c (running 9amps) on the GFI circuit by running it to the bathroom. The constant air extraction from that shitty booster fan is starting to work. I've got my temps ~83F, but I agree splifferous, I DESPERATELY need that damn carbon filter. I'll work on that this week.

I have a filter running out my window already :P Luckily, it's only the "evaporation technology" from the A/C and it's behind the blinds, so it's not visible from the outside. And it's upstairs.

Top dress with mulch. Slow release nutrients, helps retain moisture, other benefits... Looking great OP.
Thanks, I'll definitely look into that next time, but this run is in DWC. I'm beginning to realize that I probably should've gone the soil route with landrace sativas :wall:

I just suck at growing in soil because I don't know a damn thing about it. Coco has really caught my eye, too. Love the avatar, Hilo.

Shows how much I pay attention:lol:.

Really, I just looked at your pics and assumed mulch would be a plausible option (the bushes are quite large, I can't see what they're growing in...Please excuse me for not updating myself on the threads content).

For a coco run, mulch would be great. And thank you.

make sure that you are running that AC unit on a massive gauge extension cord. pulling 9 amps thru a puny standard extension cord for even a 25 foot run is bound to heat the cord itself, and reduce it's lifespan, as well as could make for an eventual fire hazard.

on a side note, i think it's an aptly named panel, that Solar Storm... especially if it's able to raise your temp 12 degrees F (as you state in post 60 on the previous page) with a mere 400w draw, and with a 14kbtu AC unit already on full blast in there.

i don't even need an AC in either of my rooms...

You are a wise one, my friend. I very much appreciate the info, but, unfortunately, I learned that the hard way in my last (first) grow... I bought a slightly above average gauge blue extension cord to run my 1k ballast because of the same issue with the breaker and it melted itself to my carpet. I'd have started a fire if I hadn't made it back in time to find the puddle of melted rubber & carpet :dunce:. Lol, yes, it is aptly named. I was pissed when I found out the 800w solar storm had slightly better PAR output than my 650w Lumigrow. Now that I know it makes it hotter than a whorehouse on nickel night in there, I wish I would've invested in a 325w Lumigrow.

On trimming. I've been trimming all the fan leaves below the SCrog net, but I don't know if I should cut the smaller shoots that are ~2-6" above the screen, but still being drowned out by the bushiness? Would you recommend any further trimming and how long do you think these Colombian Gold will stretch? They're @ almost 3 weeks of flowering and hardly show signs of budding. They're definitely both girls, though!!!

I'm super sad that I just found out these ladies are probably going to herm just because they're landrace sativas.. Bummmmmmeeeeerrrrrrrr.

I just don't get how The lumigrow 650w can run cooler at around double the wattage of the CLW ss400.......have you checked for flaws?/emailed george at CLW? , he's an electrical engineer and definitely knows his panels better than anyone ...

:o damn! i bet that was a scary discovery! you were very lucky indeed!

about the trimming, at a minimum i suggest that you remove the axillary growth below the canopy but leave the leaves intact. the branches will otherwise continue to grow and stretch in the shadow of the canopy and will tap the plant's resources more than they will contribute to it. the leaves down there are OK to keep because they are the plant's solar panels afterall, and will only increase the photosynthesis. also, they act as a carb bank for later in bloom when the plant will drop them on her own. as far as the smaller shoots in the lows of the canopy, you can train her so they can stay (or use a light mover), or cut them (the sooner the better if you decide to remove them). understand that pruning increases the root:shoot ratio and makes it so that each leaf/bud has more roots feeding it. but, keep in mind that with a dark cycle, the top needs to make enough storage carbs in a day to fed the roots for the night, so don't chop too much all at once!

are you giving them 12/12? try shifting to 11/13. that will allow more hormonal response in the dark cycle and should help the plant flip faster. or, you can check out those 730nm Flower Initiators. they use 730nm LEDs to force the pr/pfr switch in minutes rather than the typical 2 hours that it takes plants in the dark. effectively adding 2 hours to the dark cycle...

herms can happen because cannabis is one of the many kinds of dioecious plants that keeps some male traits on the X chromosome. this is a survival trait, in the way that if the population were reduced to a single standing female, she could respond to environmental stress by generating male flowers for self pollination and allowing a next generation rather than just dying waiting for pollen chance by. male traits on a girl are determined by the amount of stress she gets (too much or too little heat, water, nutes, light intensity, time can be a trigger) and how genetically predisposed she is to respond to those stresses.

Hey G, you should be all over CLW about the heat. You should get an exchange for that panel. You may have a shit driver in the panel pumping out the heat and not correctly powering your LEDs, perhaps causing them to run hot and hastening their demise. I put a 300 watt Vipar in my tent and the tent's temps only went up 4 or 6 degrees in the immediate grow area, and taking off my glass helped get that down a bit. Maybe you should get one of those portable thermostats and you can plug a few of your lights into it so when it gets to a certain temp, say 86F, they'll turn off. Might help.

PS I posted a comment in the Cup Comp thread after yours and I said something about you having a hot panel. I hope you know I meant your Lumi being an excellent light and not your SS400, which I didn't know was causing you problems when I posted my comments. I would never make fun of your problems. Not even in that thread. The part about your girlfriend being hotter I did mean though :).

PPS Plants look great BTW! And I liked how you showed them who's the boss!

Hell yea! I just left it there when I moved out. There was no stain remover that could fix that, lol. And thanks! That was what I thought with the trimming, but for the beginner, it seems counterintuitive to block out the lower sites. I read in DJ short's article that he has a "trade secret" he won't reveal about his light schedules and how they affect the plant's traits. I'm scared that the 11/13 would induce more sativa-like characteristics and I'm trying to avoid stretching at all costs. I've got a curiousity boner about trying that out, though. You're a smart fkin dude ;)

"As for the exact photoperiod formula that I incorporate into my growing/breeding regime, this will presently remain a trade secret. My advice is to experiment with different photoperiods, keep good notes and pay attention. Avoid the 18/6 and 12/12 photoperiods, while tweaking the times a bit differently with each breeding cycle until more desirable results in the finished product and their offspring are noted. Here's a hint: work in half-hour increments or a little less, and good luck!" -DJ Short "Breeding Tips - High Times"

Lol, I don't remember. Tis' all good. Thanks, Fran! I hope I can produce sexy bitches the way you do someday. You're a champion. Those Vipars look like a sweet deal. Hows it treating you? I'll give CFW a ring today and see what they have to say. I hear they have pretty good customer service, so I'll soon find out. If only she was my real girlfriend I wouldn't have time to grow or post on here. I'd just fuck her all day long. That's Lyndsey Fonseca from Nikita. She's a sexy assassin that's in love with me. She just hasn't met me yet ;)

Thanks G but I'm just a student grower, trying to pick up other growers good habits and keeping it on the LED tip. And the A300 Vipar is rockin so far, hasn't added too much to my electrical bill and is definitely adding much to the flower room. It's more of a full cycle panel so I'm getting some leafier growth because of all the blue they put in their 2011/2012 panels, still I am getting some fat girls with it. Guess I'll have to add more 630/660/730 to my tent :). First though I've decided I'm banishing all drivers and ballasts from the grow tent. I figure I can get quite a bit of heat out of the tent this way. Just got to do that math first. I think it will be cool having a "driver farm" twenty feet away from my tent.

LOL And I am so clueless to most pop culture today, I had no clue who "your girlfriend" was. I was gonna say you better go buy her something soon before she gets bored :)!

A driver farm??? That sounds like a pretty sweet idea. I try to keep my air pumps out of my grow tent bc they get pretty fkin hot, too. I'd love to see that engineering feat. Pfffff, buying gifts is for the birds. Just give em' some good D and they'll stick around.

Update - 3 weeks flowering/1.31.13

Lavender- Under the CFL and in dirt.

SSH x c99 girls gettin bullied into the corner :(

պարտեզ <--- That's Armenian for "Garden" You've learned something today ;)

Nice G, what's Armenian for jungle :)?
Actually my barbers off the boat Armenian. Nice, sweet guy. Which reminds me, how would you say, "Stop fucking leaving the front of my hair so long cumquat!" in Armenian? This way I'll print it out and tape it to my forehead the next time I get a haircut. LOL

Lol, Silly, Armenians... I used to work with these foreign exhange officers in the air force and the Armenian ones were pretty cool dudes. If I were you, I would just find a hot girl that speaks English to cut my hair, but if you like hairy foreigners all up on your shit, I won't stop you.

This should be your next fly-ass haircut

I FINALLY got a scrubber for like $50 at the local hydro store and it's awesome. I also picked up another 110lpm pump to replace the 45lpm that was giving air to the SSH x c99 and El Alquimista who finally earned a spot under the LED's. They're ~3wks into flowering and didn't get much light other than the CFLs and reflected light, so I decided to chop the smaller Colombian Gold to make more room in the tent. I didn't expect them to get that big. I mean, I expected tall, but not tall and bushy. I really hope I can produce frosty buds, otherwise this was all for nothing. I can veg the shit out of these girls, but that's the easy part. I didn't get to make it through flowering last time, so wish me luck!

If you're attempting to cash-crop landrace sativas hoping for frosty buds, someone lied to you at some point. Far leaning sativas are an experience, not just something that f*cks you up and they sure as sh*t don't have much 'street bag appeal'. Assuming the genetics are there and you've grown these right, they'll be in a league of their own as compared to that indica garbage that is dense and white.

Don't expect these flowers to 'look good' at harvest. I mean, they'll look great if you know how sativas are supposd to look, but if you're looking for frosty, chop them now and cut your loses.
