Led Growing Is The Way Of The Future My Friends

That's fair enough man,and probably the only situation where it makes sense, but if heat isn't an issue can you accept that changing from HID doesn't make sense?

They are 135 watts per unit, with two 45 watt power sources powering the 45 3 watt LEDs, and three 1.5 watt fans. Black case.

I wont be selling them, but I can pass along the info to where I got mine from.

This place has units starting at like 10 watts or something (I'm not sure on the really small stuff), and go all the way up to 540 (actual) watts.

What size were you thinking? I might be interested.

That really looks like shilling man,so be ready for the accusations cos they will come.

EDIT: Just warning you,cos you're new,but alot of supposed new member LED supporters in the past have been unveiled as being shills/shillers whatever.

But there is no appreciable difference between LEDs and HIDs except the pricetag,it's people like me who will drive the innovation by saying it's not good enough for the price.

I've been driving innovation in the computer industry by sticking with my 286 and bitching about pentiums. your welcome.

I'm an HID user and like I have said in many posts, I look forward to the future growing tech LED, Plasma, whatever it is. If it gives me more product for less input I'm in!

We all understand that HID is more proven, let the envelope be pushed by those willing to push it.

But ironically you're comment about computing is somewhat relevant, because it was when PC's became affordable to the general public that they really took off.

I have an extra dunce hat for the winner I can spare. Free shipping even.

I don't care to win, I just want to do what I do and be left alone on my lighting choices.

If I do in fact win though, I will sport the hat with pride....

how do we know when someone wins?

what is the prize?

A working LED light using a prototype Cree 160 watt per lumen single die LED.
A couple months ago Cree said they have a 200 lumen per watt die going in their lab. 683 lm/W is the maximum luminous efficacy possible in a perfect world, I think it is unlikely we will ever get close to that. There brightness seems to be following Haitz's Law. The cost of this is clearly out of range for growing but 5 to 10 years that may be a different story.

Which is exactly what I'm waiting for in a new lighting technology. One I can't afford not to have. In the meantime, I'm sitting back watching our fellow growers blaze a new trial with what is available now. Rather than laugh at their failures, we should praise their successes.

If they brought the prices down tho, the panels that are in use today would pale in comparison with the ones they could develop with lots of potential customers asking for more...at the moment they only appeal to a very minute niche of the grower market, a niche that is willing to pay a ridiculous pricetag for an ok light...why would they bother doing full blown R&D and bringing the "T-1000" model into production when they can make all the money they want for as long as they can off the T600 before they're eventually forced to make improvements. (Excuse Terminator references ;) )

EDIT: And once again Im not against LED growers, just I think alot of the hype about the panels themselves is overrated for the massive price...so support the growers, but they are getting ripped off at the minute.

Who fucking cares about the price?!?!

If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Are you done already sounding like a broken record?

How many posts have you made crying about the price already?

First of all Gary, this isnt your thread, so dont try tell me where or when I can or cannot post. Secondly, have a spliff man, relax, we're having a conversation/debate here (it is a forum afterall) and you keep getting all bothered and taking it very personally...whats the deal man?

If you want this technology to stall where it is for the forseeable future then cool, I want it to advance to the point where its worth replacing HID's with, the only way that'll happen is if they drop the prices (even by just 1/2) so lots of people can buy them...lots of customers and money coming in means lots of companies competing and R&D funding which means more LED advancement... What dont you get about that?

EDIT: Its called Economies of Scale btw...

Are you even reading anything Im posting? I want better LEDs, Im not against them or the people who use them at all, just as it stands the market for them is too small and there is one limiting factor...which you can guess.

Its not the people buying BMW's thats keeping that company afloat btw, its the people buying VW's if you get the analogy.

And what I'm not getting, why the fuck are you still here????

You said you were leaving.

Fine I'll split to a different thread,I wasn't trying to "convince" anyone anything,I just posted actual FACTS instead of the myth, legend and LED fairy stories, whether you choose to ignore them or not is up to you,but it doesn't make what I posted any less fact. Peace.

Well Im back, so maybe actually respond to the (on topic) content of my posts from an objective point of view instead of just throwing your toys out of the cot?

EDIT: And I never once said to stop using them or made that assertion. What I said was for a person with HID's setup and running, why the fuck would they change to LED's considering they're not better yielders and dont actually save any actual electricity for the unit itself versus an already running HID setup.

Stop generalising, Im not against you, just HID users will NEVER switch over if they have their setup running right because of the price (no advantage if you're room is already running right)...which means less customers for the LED companies and bang we're right back to economies of scale again.

Why are you on LED threads badmouthing LEDs and crying about prices in how many posts now?

Go grow your pot with your tanning lamps.

Have a nice day :D

Why am I so wrong because I spent MY OWN MONEY on a light I CHOSE TO BUY UNDER MY OWN WILL, and ENJOYED SO MUCH I BOUGHT 3 MORE PANELS?

Enlighten me?
Fire away, enjoy your LEDs, but encouraging new growers to spend that much money with fantastical claims about its electricity savings based solely on watt for watt sums that dont actually add up for anyone not living in a hot climate is wrong when a HID could work just as well for them for ALOT less scrilla-vanilla.

And as I said before (but you didnt read it) if you want this to advance at more than a snails pace, the companies need a big market share (so they can invest more into the product) which they havnt got at the moment.

And again, I want LEDs to advance, I want to replace my HPS with them but for the moment it would be a pointlessly large cost with NO ACTUAL benefit over what I have now...that is the main obstacle these companies face, do you not understand this concept of business at all?

You obviously dont get it, but I am actually on your side, you just cant see it yet.
