Led Panel: Is it ok?

Hi, I purchased a Meizhi 600w model recently. Basically just another Chinese led, and while it seems to be doing great can't complain (only early into veg), I think it will definitely lack come flower time. From what I've read recently it just won't cut it.
it will probably work fine if you temper your expectations. is it really 600W? probably not.

even the crappy LEDs are near hps in efficiency so it will work if you dont expect miracles

It says actual draw is 270w, so it's nowhere near the 600w advertised, but like I say it's doing great so far. Runs quietly and with not much noticeable heat at all to be fair.

I have a couple of those "600w" meizhi and they did a very good job for me. You may want to upgrade at some point but i tell you that you may not be as disappointed as you think you will be.

theyre not great, not awful

not sure if that lpw rating includes driver losses. if the driver is 85-90% its possible it could be in the 130 lm/W range which you can get for $0.30/watt by ripping off the reflectors from a 14W A19 bulb from home depot

$2/watt is on the high side of cost for a setup like that imo

if you spend $2/watt on cobs or quantum boards youd be 180 lm/W at system level (system level including driver losses)

if you spend $1/watt on cobs and drivers youd be in the 150-160 lm/W range including driver losses
They aren't 2 dollars a watt though - You get 5 strips and drivers, 5 x 23W each is 115W for $50. - that's close to $0.40 per watt. Decent deal even at 130 L/W, IMO.

lol that is definitely an unhealthy plant, but led's spectrum definitely doesn't suck. I know firsthand because I flowered with hps and vegged with mh and t5s for 7 years with great success before switching to led. and even with the shitty blurples that were available when I first switched back in 2010, I was able to improve the quality from good to amazing while keeping gpw the same initially and then eventually surpassing the highest gpw I ever got with hps.

there are literally thousands of pics/videos of perfectly grown led plants on instagram, youtube, this forum, and all the others.

check out pics and videos of grows by growmau5, sixstring, greengenes, etc for tons of examples of super healthy plants grown with leds
Well said. Some people are truly so stubborn that they choose to have a blind eye.

Are you gay too? why must u be so stubborn. are you to stupid to understand technology has evolved and yes they do make lights equal to 1000 watts that only use 185w? Stop bitchin to me because you overpaid and got suckered ya sucker! My light is !000 watts in my book so fuck u and have a nice day.

There are no lights even remotely close to 185w that are comparable to a 1000w light. It takes about 650-700w of high end led to compete with 1000w. Also i'm not sure why you are bringing up the fact that you are gay.... Your sexual preference has very little to do with anything bro.

So what was the yield on your last grow with your 1000W light?

Yes LED's are efficient and require less power to produce the same amount of light but there is no magic involved that says a 185 watt light can replace a 1000 watt HPS. It's plain noncence. hocus pocus magic is what you claiming only going on your sellers information and not listening to others who are trying to tell you the truth. Everyone has asked for pictures of this mythical grow you claiming and you still have not produced any evidence yet. If you take the time to search and read what others have done you well read on how they tried those lights only to be dissapointed by the results and since threw them away.

Your dreaming and clearly have zero knowledge of leds and yet you talk about things you have no idea about. You deserve to be put in your place.

so now... im on CFL and basically i cant find anything good locally. so this is a hard one... its either buy shit or take another gamble with importing. :/
I don't know where you live but in this country you can get T5HO grow lights at walmart or home depot. you can get HPS and MH lights at home depot . you can also get them at any hydro shop. for high end LED grow lights would need to be purchased from the manufacturer because they serve a very small nitch market. LEDs look cool and the makers have a very slick sales pitch but they are not the best lights for growing plants, most people look for cost effective ways to grow and after years of false, exaggerated and misleading claims these companies have very little credibility. I have done test grows with multi-band chinese grow lights as well as COBs and 561 strip lights. they are collecting dust in my shed.I have no intention of spending $500-$800 for a high end LED grow light just to find out if it can match the performance of my $60 150 watt HPS.

So basically I'd listen to the guys here recommending quantum boards or cob kits, I'll be going down that road myself once I get finances sorted.
it should work for flowering but don't expect more than about 0.3 GPW with that light.

Just wondering, is that 0.3gpw based of the 600w (model name) or the 270w actual draw? Because the difference is 100g haha.
I've added a viparspectra UFO model 90w actual), and I have some TCI LED strips in the post that I'll be adding for flowering, really looking forward to building a little rig with those :-)
