wannabe if you can get your hands on foxfarm you should go ahead and get you a couple bags of Roots alot better product, but FF ocean forest or whatever its called is great for seedlings... but then again I mix my own starter mix

thanks, i'm not sure about where i'd get that fox farm soil around here and that would be rather heavy to get through the mail, so i'm thinking about mixing my own too, can you get the items you need at home depot, lowes or garden centers? may transplant the lowryders that aren't doing well, seems like stunted growth.

Well almost everything is there between HomeDepot, Lowe's, and Walmart... but if you wanna get real into your quality and result, look for a local nursery for pure earthworm, maybe the Epsoma Organics line, and "Something Special" (look at my grow to understand that).. anymore ques I'm sure I, or MamaKB can answer

well, thanks for the wealth of information, i think you have helped me decide that i am going to persist in the hydro growing instead of soil. although the soil plants look healthier, the thought of buying and mixing all those ingredients is just too much for me. i've already purchased so much hydro equipment, i should try to master this method, which sometimes doesn't seem likely. your post is very interesting and i do think organic growing with soil has many benefits. in the right location, i'd love to try it. right now i live in a small apartment. however, i plan on moving in the near future, so we'll see what happens.

Wannabee you don't have to mix your own soil you can buy soil at lowes or home depot or most hardware stores and they even have organic blends. Soil growing seems to be more forgiving. I have never grown hydro so I really don't know what's involved in it but soil is just so easy...

Anyways I have to go back and count when I put the first one in a tote to see how long it's been. I put #6 in a tote. With 6 of them in totes I'm really praying this works out.

It's been 45 days since I put the first one into a tote...5 weeks. I want to harvest 1 tote every 10 days or so.
2 more weeks and the first one goes into flower. Then 1 every 10 days.

My reveg girl is looking good. Lots of new growth. I tied her down to bush her up so I can take some healthy clones.

2 clones went into pots today for outdoors so that's 12 going outside.
Once they get put outdoors I'll have more room.

I use HPS in flowering but I use CFL's in veg. This is a pic of the light fixtures my hubby made for me. It holds 6 bulbs and each one pivots and rotates so I can pin point where I want the light I picked up a lot of these great CFL's dirt cheap amd they seem to be working for me.

I use 1 fixture for 2 totes

thats a nice diy light job. you know, mama, now I'm thinking why not try a plant with some soil. just hearing so many riu people rave about fox farm ocean forest or roots, or happy frog, makes me want to try those. I do see people using Miracle Grow too, with good results, but others criticize it. Its kind of hard to figure these things out sometimes. I'm having a hard time deciding about moving too, so thats no surprise. Decisions, decisions, decisions..

thanks, take care and have a nice night:peace:

Wannabee people do use MG soil with great results. A lot of people put MG down but I don't see why.For me it wouldn't work because I am an organic grower but hey whatever works is my motto.

hey Bkgmitts hows the puppies?Have they eaten any plants lately?

MG isnt organic, but the do have a MG organic mix thats is as said... I have used MG Oorganic choice and had excellent result... you will need to add bout half a cup of lime to a 5 gal containers( to stablize ph and prevent a mag or calcium def.) alot of ppl dis on MG, but organic choice isnt bad if thats all you can get you just gotta with it. You should use a media you comfortable with, hydro I only recommend organic...

No MKB the pups have been good, got to healthy little beauties, I'll be updating my journal sooon.. and post those LST pics for wannabe, my girl just need to get me the aircard again..

Yes wannabee being an organic grower means no chemicals what so ever are used in my grow. I build my soil with what it needs to feed my plant. I use bat guanos and worm castings and bunny poop (I have my own bunnies) and Chicken poop(composted first from my own chickens or made into a weak tea) and seaweed. Even for pest control I use natural preditors and the taste is incredible and the smell is heavenly. You can't carry my weed around unless you have it in an air tight jar cause of the smell. The only weed I will smoke is my own because I know it's all natural goodness.

bkgmitts I sometimes top my girls even though I LST too. Sometimes you just have to. Where I'm doing this tote experament I'm going for a completly uniform shape so whatever it takes I'll do. I'm getting itchy to start the totes flowering. Hopefully today I'll get some pics to share.

Today was bunny cleaning day.Yaaaa.

What I do is I put a litter box in my bunny's pen and I put a little hay in it and they love to pee and poop in it. Well I take out the solids and put them in the compost pile and what's left is a yucky soupy bunch of goodness. There's some poop left that I smash up in the juices then I put some water in it,slosh it around and pour it into a gallon jug. Now I'll add like 2 cups per gallon of water and give all my vegging girls a treat ... Bunny Soup.

It might sound nasty as all hell but for my girls only the best and bunny soup is good stuff.

Here's the first 2 totes. One trimmed on the bottom and the other untrimmed. When I start flowering I'll decide which one I'll start first or maybe put both in at once .... decisions, decisions.
Speaking of decisions I'm planning out a stealth bunker on my property. A 12 X 14 foot concrete bunker buried. I have the concrete guys on board and I know I can trust them because there grows are because of me. I give them stock and my special goodies and my knowledge. There totally reliable and they do this stuff for a living so I know everything will be up to code and safe. Just gotta go looking for threads of people who might have done this.

I was working on my girls today and was hoping to get some more pics of them but my friend stopped over and we smoked a bowl and talked growing for a while. He's 2 weeks away from his first harvest. I always told him that when he grew a nut sack and wanted to start growing I'd help him. Well he was given a phototron and I've never seen a plant grown in one before so this was a great chance for me to see what they can do. I gave him a nice Hash Berry that I had LST'd into a nice bush and he put it into flower in the tron. He's at 9 weeks but it's still got probably 2 or 2 1/2 weeks left maybe 3. Under the HPS she takes 9 to 10 weeks top. But the thing is he's almost done with his 2 DIY cabinets and he wants to graduate to a bigger real grow (where he vegges and flowers and is self sufficent).
He wants to try totes too...
Well this whole tote thing is an experament. I'm not sure how it's gonna go. I believe it will be a good thing but until the bud is dry and cured I won't know for sure if the yield is worth the work and resources. I just don't want anyone to try this thinking it is a sure fire way better then the more common 5 gallon bucket thing. Trust me if it's not I will go back to 5 gallon buckets in a heartbeat.... But I really think it's going to work out better.
BKGmitts my totes have 1 plant in it but hmmmm maybe I should start 1 with 2 to see how it goes... Hey why not. What do I have to lose? Nothing at all because plants aren't a problem.I'm gonna do it. Thanks for the great Idea of 2 plants in 1 tote.
Hmmm well I have to finish up in the veg and maybe I'll go to the flowering girls world tonight and get some bud shots.

Hey Mama, seems like things are going very well there. I was just combing over your thread thoroughly because I've got some great seeds I want to start. I'm going to try growing some feminized Brainstorm seeds and I've decided to get soil and try the LST technique. That is so cool, I love those big bushy plants. I can either get Pro Mix from the closest hydro store, or just get some organic MG. The hydro store said they have I think like 2.4 cubic foot of Pro Mix (which I don't know much about right now, i.e. if its organic or not) for like $25. My grow tent will only fit one 10 gallon tote, its 23.5" by 23.5". Now I wish I'd have gotten on a little wider to fit a couple.

I live on Long Island, Mama, close to the middle, are you near here?

I think its so cool you have bunnies, I used to have them as a child, but had bad luck with dogs coming and killing them. I'd like to see pics of the bunnies. My son and I were playing with a wild one in our yard today.
