Newish to this area and looking for anyone who knows the answer.

I plan on running a 4x4 area(many of them in scrog setups) and Im looking to run at either 700mA or 500mA (for that max efficiency). Im looking to also have 1000PPFD at this since ill be running CO2 as well.

Not to good on the math for this part but thats why Im asking.

The cost part isnt that important at this point, Im just looking to get the info.

So dimmed down to 500mA it will provide 1000PPFD throughout the space? or at 700mA?

Im aiming for the 500mA.

I like the option of being able to up it or down it with the internal pot.
Passive is the route Im going for sure.

On DC side not much to worry. Meanwell great design. In meanwell test they short circuit DC side for over an hour and driver still works. Plenty of protection on DC side.
Usually we use Constant current driver and it is not like DC output will jump crazy high current if short.
For high power constant voltage driver like the hlg 185/240/320 42/36. It might be good to use a 2 or 3 amp fuse to protect each cobs incase one or more cob in parallel fails and your remaining cobs get excessive current.

On AC side I think connecting ground important. A fuse would be nice too. But on AC there is high inrush current. So use a 'slow blow' type fuse if you want of slightly higher rating like 10 amps.
A fast blow 2or 5 amp may blow due to inrush current.

About thermal protector.
If metal encased thermal protector then very careful and avoid this mistake.:!:

I prefer plastic encased thermal protectors.
Unfortunately many of these thermal protectors are rated too low for DC. Discrimination against DC:o
Example 125VAC 8A but only 24 VDC 8A
They are very well suitable to be connected to dimming in drivers as it is between 10-12v and very low currents.
Never tried them on AC side. But they seem more suited for AC side than DC side, which is usually 25-40v for popular cobs
Normally open type better for meanwell dimming.
Normally closed for AC or cob DC side

@Growmau5 I have some extra normally open types 55C cutoff thermal protectors
Great for dimming light incase overheat due to fan fail in active cool design. PM me if you want a few to play around. If you like you can make a video to explain how it works.

I have a quick question as a follow-up to this response. I have decided to install a power switch and fuse on the AC side of my grow light. I am going to install this plug w/ fuse. The plug is rated for up to a 15 amp fuse/ 250V. My driver is a HLG-240-1750B and my cooling is four Arctic Alpine 64 Plus (.25 Amp per fan). So, I am assuming/ calculating 2.8 Amps total. If this is the case then will a 5 amp slow blow fuse work fine or should I use a 10 Amp slow blow to allow for the initial power inrush? Slow blow being the key I suppose in either case.

I have a Littlefuse Inc. brand 5A slow fuse with the markings T5AL250VP. I know the T stands for slow blow and the L is for low breakage. It is a solid strand wire.

As you guys know, i've been pretty busy and all. My new grow space is taking 3x as long and costing 2x as much as anticipated. So, in the meantime, I have decided to redo some things in my room. partially in anticipation for the new space, partially to test ideas (like light movers) that will be implemented into the new space. And partially because I am an OCD crazy person that is redoing a room that will only be up for 4 months more, or so I hope.

I have been very pleased with the 700ma drive current for cxb3590. Its great for a person with high electric bills, low HVAC capabilities, or a granola eating, TEVA wearing , eco-nazis. But for someone looking to transition into a larger space, I will not be able to afford to run triple the square footage I have now with such a low drive current. I was successful with 1400ma on my cxa3070 side, but I decided to meet in the middle at 1050.

This decision came almost solely based on the availability of the new HLG 320 c and its ability to run 8 (36v cobs) per driver. All my shit is already configured in 4s or 8s, so its a lot less work for me and its kinda cool to have the newest toys again.

here are some shots of the drivers, and Ill post some photos of my light mover and winch system as I work on it over the next few days. cheers

oh yeah. HLG320c cost $83.90 when you order qty10 from Bravo Electric. Not sure individually, but I would assume $90-94 each plus shipping. These were special ordered 3 weeks or so ago, there were only 14 available overseas and none in the USA (of 1050b ). I believe some are trickling in just like the 240s did. Mine came in a meanwell original factory box from Taiwan thru Meanwellusa via San F, to Bravo, to me.

right on, i wasnt trying to be secretive, lol. I had to call and ask for a special order, and then sat there patiently. of course bravo doesnt charge your card until day of ship out. so weeks later, my payment bounced due to insufficient funds, guess I forgot to add this order to my expenses, lol So that was another 5 day hold up.

I was gonna say he could run 12 3590s off a HLG-320H-C700... I was hoping to find one in 1750B flavor, any tips?
pick up the phone and start calling around until yo find someone in the mood to help you with a special order. thats what I did.

I know its not a great silver bullet answer, but it is what it is sometimes. Interacting with humans is the worst, i prefer point and click.

Sooooo.....if my math is right (learned from you and GG,but if I'm wrong I won't blame the teacher) this driver would allow me to run a 4 X 10 space with 3 modules of 8 3590s at just over 15 PAR watts/sqft (64% efficiency?) - pretty close to what you were delivering to the canopy in your awesome last grow? That would put each 4-cob bar about 18" apart while allowing the end units to be 9" from the canopy edge.....is that acceptable? Designing a room to keep power usage to the lowest practical level but 700 ma gets expensive quickly as it scales up. BTW, this driver might make a good alternative choice for the Cutter 8 cob kit when they become more available. (Just sayin'. Not because it would be perfect for me or anything.....hehehe). Thanks for any insight you can provide.
