My Quick/Cheap Fogoponic Cloner

I'll pick up a cheap 15 minute resolution timer and see how that works out with 15 on 15 off.

I'm only interested in producing quick healthy root systems that can be transferred to my 3" net cups easily.

If it turns out to be too troublesome to get the system to work, I'll just convert it into bubbleponics.

No loss, I just heard rumors of tap roots in 3 or 4 days and I want to see it for myself.

:joint:
15 on/15 off has worked for aero-misters, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for foggers.

As for the pucks, the ones I linked are not the same generic ones sold as novelties and they are good for water soluble nutes. They don't say anything about run-time, but they are made by Nutramist so I have no doubt they'd be good 24/7 and you can buy replacement disks. Plus they are water-cooled being submerged like they are w/ saftey shut-off for low water levels. This is the same company that makes the serious 200w dealies. If a humidifier can run 24/7 (I have 2 of those Sunbeam humidifiers you're working with), no reason a quality puck can't handle the same. Besides you aren't even running your setup 24/7 anyway. WTF?

The dude on ICMag says he gets roots in 5 days, so I'd hold your system to the same standard.

I once had a cut in Rapid Rooters poke out in 4 days.

I run it for 24 hours after the cuttings are taken and then cycle after that. First batch of cuttings wilted when I took the fog away within the first 24 hours.

Rapid Rooters are awesome!

I read somewhere to use a 3 min on 5 minutes off but can't find a timer with that resolution and number of cycles per day. *EDIT* For a reasonable price *EDIT*

Ultrasonic foggers are pretty powerful. 15 on and 15 off should be plenty as long as you control your exhaust. If you have too many gaps or holes, you will lose humidity quickly. From you pics it shows fog coming out of almost every opening in your tub. I would suggest sealing up most openings, but not all, or even rigging up an exhaust port.

You could run a tube up a hole, like an exhaust pipe on a big rig. You could even stuff the exhaust pipe with a little polyfill to increase your pressure, as well as keep out contaminants.

Good luck. Nice work so far!

I had seen that one at my local hydro shop. They wanted nearly double that. I do not buy things off the internet but that is a good price.

Really I'm trying to find a cheap local version of that item. Still though I would have a problem dropping that much dough if I couldn't adjust the interval. I might just build my own.

First things first, what interval is good practice? Next thing is find a timer that will work for it. I'll start with the $15.00 15 minute resolution timer.

My biggest problem is water accumulation. When the water gets up to a certain point there is no more fog. This is a bit more maintanence than I had thought it to be.

Worse comes to worse I'll turn it into a EZ-Cloner or bubbleponic and set this on the shelf for now, I had no clue the system would need a bit more work and I'm budgeted out on time for now.

On a side note, the clones that had showing roots seemed happy so far. This might be where I put them after they show roots in my current cloner. Next time around I will take more clones and use some of the suggestions you guys posted.

I'm thinking of a way to use my ECO 396 gph and sprayers in this box and I have a great idea I'll try out later when I have more time. The ultrasonic fogger is not a good enough source of nutrient and this is obviously not an optimal situation for the delicate plants.

Buy a buoy for the unit, that way water level will not affect the fogger at all unless you let it run too low.

No I use a separate reservoir of clean water. The tub was above the modified Walgreen's cool mist humidifier. I changed things up a bit last night. I'll have pictures up later. I basically combined this with my seedling/clone tub.:leaf:

I'll be placing some fresh cuttings in the machine tonight, unfortunately one of the plants revealed balls and was promptly removed. I have another plant showing pre-flowers (I hope female... no pistols yet just flower shape, I also hope there is no ruderalis in the strain because then it cannot be a mother anymore...)

Jeeze I hate starting fresh, I mixed up my seed collection when I moved also, so this is kinda a "pot-luck" assortment... pun intended.

Not to mention the climate difference here compared to where I use to live, holy crap!

Stay posted for pictures soon. Working on the water pump for the system now.

The whole shabang.

An external res for the modified ultrasonic cool mist humidifier.

Top view of aeroponic veg/cloner.

Temporary solution for fresh cuttings.

Will be fixed soon when the old clones are tested in the flower area soon, I'm not expecting anything more than living plants as I'm just working out the systems still.

Temp/Humidity at start up.

A veiw inside the clone tub part.

Same tub with
the fogger on...

A view inside the veg part with the fogger off.

Fogger on in the veg area.

Clones from two days ago.

About to go into their new home.

There is my current modifications.

After slowing down the fan on the humidifier by blocking it partially I found that it made the fog thicker and helped turn the "cool-mist" fog into a warm mist of RO water. The water condensates and drops into the res. Keeping the res level good.

Pictures with fresh cuttings and results to follow suit.

I'll be posting my DIY RO Filtering auto res leveling device. I still need electronic valves to turn off the water flow and a sensor. A float valve is not enough, I found that I need to kill the supply to the RO setup.

Pics to come soon.

Yes, you need to attach an auto shutoff valve to the RO unit. They are available here http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/auto-shutoff-valves.asp as well as just about any aquarium supply as well as eBay (here's quite a few, some are complete kits with float valve and all)

I found something else that might be helpful. A schematic of how to hook up those electric reed switches to a relay so that you can control the pump.
http://www.floatswitches.net/HighLowLevelApps.html

Basically, that's all you are buying when you purchase a JBJ and similar units are, just a programmable relay.

Here's a site I happened across that is a one stop shop for all of this stuff at DIY prices (although I bet you can still do better on eBay)

Here is how I restricted the fan on the ultrasonic humidifier.

Makes a world of difference.

I'm trying to work on timing for the fogger/sprayers. I think I'm going to run the sprayers 1 min on 4 min off and the fogger 24/7. Any ideas? Pros/cons?

I plan on building an Andyman timer to control it.

I think you got the solution right there. I'm going to go to the aquarium store and request one. Cheap! I like that. I'll just place it between my supply and RO system. Check my other thread to see the RO system.

Nice thread dub, hows it going. had a thought while reading your threads on res temp, I have similar issues and I just built little stands to get them off the cold floor and it worked great for me, just a thought

That is a good idea. I already have the heater in the res or I would have tried that. It gets down to -20F sometimes at night here so I use the heater because it keeps the water at a constant 68* at night.
