My Quick/Cheap Fogoponic Cloner

Hey Dub, how is your fogger cloner working? I bought a Nutramist fogger and made one but I haven't had good results with it. On this last batch I decided to put them in peat pellets and into the fogger. I know that the moisture will be very limited to the roots but at least they were wet to begin with and the fog will keep them from drying out. As far as putting the clones straight into the fogger unit and them growing roots... no luck on that for me.

It is working great now that I teamed it up with a true aeroponic system... Here are the pics from last week and this week. I have been busy, but here are the pictures:

21*C and 67% humidity

Some sad looking clones on day 1 of the new setup.

Another view of the whole happy bunch.

A view inside the filled clone/veg aeroponic tub yesterday...

The fresh clones... Getting lanky...

The vegging clones...

Fresh clones rooting...

Vegging clones...

And now for some root porn:

I pulled the life support plug on my clones today; they are done like dinner. I'm sick and tired of waiting for them to grow roots and live. Nothing I've done works. Any tips from you would be great. thanks.

Post up some pictures and explain to me step by step how you are taking your clones.

Don't give up hope. I'm using a 396gph pump to spray them on a 1 minute on 5 minutes off (may be a bit much since I'm using rockwool). The fogger runs 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off.

The ultrasonic mist just does not maintain pH and nutrient level and I don't feel that it could do more than sustain life on plants that have roots already established for a short while.

Consider adding an air stone to your reservoir below the plants that runs 24/7 and placing your fogger outside the chamber like mine with it's own clean pure pH reservoir.

I'm not going to take anymore clones right now. My next venture into taking clones will be using the pump and sprayer system instead of the fogger. Boy, you just can't believe anything you read on the internet can you? I don't know if the foggers would work for vegging or flowering plants but they sure don't work to get clones started. My girls are in flower now and I have to get the new system built. I'll do clones on the Hindu Kush next grow.

I use one of these Mystic cloners, with good success:

it has some sort of devise, that makes the water FOG, or look like smoke, but it is water. When you open the lid, all kinds of FOG billows out. It takes about 5 to 7 days to see a root, but it works great. Maybe you could find out what kind of devise ti is, and buy it for your tank.
It is just your average fog fointain fogging puck. They are also used by reptile enthusiast and carried under the exo terra brand or something like that.

What I do know is that root growth with the fogger is faster on the finer feeder roots and with the aeroponic sprayers the water tap roots grow healthy. The spray places nutes on the fine roots that are stimulated by the fog. The schedule may be a bit damp yet becuase I am still using rock wool.

Basically my fogger has a puck with its own fan and reservoir. Fog density is key, as well as clean RO pH'd watter in your fogger. I put no nutes in it. I do have nutes in the main reservoir that are circulated up to the plants via water pump.

As far as placing a clone right in there and it producing enough roots to support itself in the larger net cups, I am not that lucky. Maybe after I get it dialed in just right, usually atleast one of the fresh cuttings is without rockwool, just to see if there is any affect.

I have a good round of true aeroponic clones going right now and I'll keep the thread updated. The size of the clones that take in aeroponics seems to be a bit of an issue. Larger clones definitely take easier but they take up more space.

They might do a bit better if you trim the lower node leaves and cut the main leaves to decrease respiration.

Believe it or not I placed them in there about 4 days ago and they are all showing root nubs. I should have been doing that from day one.

Excellent idea. With my completely noob understanding of how roots grow, here's my two cents:

Frequency of water & fog - I like the idea of the fog being 24 on, as the plant is constantly being exposed to both water AND oxygen. Might it be a good idea to reduce the frequency of the spray to something like 1 min on, 10 min off? It seems like that would make the roots really want to reach out new arms & hairs to gather as much fog as possible, right when it sprays again to use all those new root hairs to their full potential?

What do you think? Would that let the roots dry out too much? Do some people run entire systems on foggers with no sprayers at all?
