Im trying to get my aerogarden looking like that. How does my set up look, I got the aerogarden sitting by an open window with a fan blowing fresh air on it, I have a humidifier set up(not sure if I need it yet) it is the blue thing u see in pic under the fan, Ph is good, and air temp is always 75-85....these plants r 3 days old. Am I missing anything....oh yeah, I took the sprouts out of soil and put them in the sponges. I have used no nutes yet, all I have are the AG nutes...any more suggestions?

a) dont need anything but AG+water yet, nothing at all
b) lookin good :)
c) just let em grow and grow till 2 weeks, then put in 1/4 of a SMALL AG tab

Went out of town for my Grandma's birthday, planned on staying 2 nights. Unfortunately, stayed 3 instead of 2, and when I came back, everything was bone-dry and stupid-wilted!

Needless to say, i was NOT happy! 3 out of the 4 were a total loss, no chance for recovery....somehow, however, the one midseed baggie girl seems to have survived!

Doing all I can to try and get her going, trimmed off all the dead leaves, left on the iffy ones to avoid excess stress.

I think, at this point, I'm gonna just give her a few days to a week to get healthy, then throw her into flower and see what happens. :'(

Man, that really sucks. I'm sorry that happened. Hopefully that one will bounce back.

i know man, i feel like such a tool! And to think, i actually planned on returning the one day earlier, but for some stupid reason decided not to :( On the upside, the only real loss is 2 Skunk seeds, 1 month of Veg time...and that's about it. But hey, like I said at the beginning, this first grow is trial & error. ....more Error than Trial, apparently!

Out of respect for my girls, I couldn't immediately start germing new seeds. Just not right...

Well, I've had time to mourn them, and will be starting up again today or tomorrow, if all goes well. I only have 2 remaining AG sponges, but tons of seeds. What can I use to replace the grow sponges, something around the house ideally?

Also, this may be a stupid question...is it possible to use Hydroton, somehow, with the AeroGarden as-is? Like, half a piece in the plastic holder maybe?
I bought it to use for Dixie-Cup cloning, but obviously that plan is on hold now...

hydroton sounds good, you should make your own DWC system, just put that air stone in a Rubbermaid box, and cut the lid to hold the plants

I might end up doing that, but I really want to use the AG as much as I can, especially since I fucked up so badly the first time around.

gotta redeem myself, ya know?

But SICC, are you saying that I can put Hydroton in the AG sponge-holders? It doesn't seem like that's what you're saying, but I'm definitely looking for something other than AG sponges, of which I only have 2 left (used 4 in the original failed grow)

Found this recently when researching hydroponics and aerogardens.

It's a pretty good blog overall...
Some more ideas..
Just spotted this while doing another search..
STG Cubes

hope those give you some ideas. you may even be able to trim back some of those mediums to fit in the AG "pots" (i call them cages). also consider a thimble sized net pot and dropping it into the AG cage. then dropping in a bit perlite? vermiculite? hydrton?
try Googling "1 inch net pots"

just some wild, crazy thoughts. hope they inspire something better, as they should!

:peace: :hump: and bongsmilie

After takin apart the AG, I learned a very valuable lesson:

TURN OFF THE WATER PUMP WHEN THE ROOTS ARE GOOD-ENOUGH IN THE WATER!

I had tons of ingrown roots in the pump and the filter, and as you can see the filter was also rotted quite nicely.:cuss:

Will definitely be turning it off this grow! :dunce:

IMO that looks like it COULD work.. only thing to consider is how much water it holds on to. too wet.. stem/root rot... too dry... i dont know... GO FOR IT! haha maybe try picking up some bullshit seeds from the garden center see how they germ/sprout in the sponges.. then put your real seeds in there after seeing how it works. i say go for it, personally.

Got this Microfiber sponge at walmart, but it feels a bit too dense...is this the kind you guys meant?
It's got the whole netting-thing, but doesn't look right...

dUDE i USED THAT SAME SPONGE.... BOUGHT IT AT THE DOLLAR STORE. DIDNT WORK FOR ME... THE SPONGES WONT ABSORB ANY OF THE WATER AND I KILLED 3 PLANTS THAT WAY... WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS THE ROOTS HAD DRIED UP IN THERE... KEEP A GOOD EYE ON THEM.... DONT USE CELLULOSE SPONGES EITHER... THEY MUSH UP ON THE ROOTS REAL BAD... THEY DECOMPOSE. BEST THING TO DO IS TO GO TO BED BATH AND BEYOND AND BUY A HERB GARDEN SEED KIT... COMES WITH LIKE 7 GROW PODS AND SPONGES.... BINGO BANGO!!! $19.99
