space my dear gypsy.. SPACE! the cab is roughly 11 1/2" deep and 23" long... have to keep things compact, and with little space, i think even a 150 HID would raise the temps.. given the space available after the reflector and ballast, don't think i'd even be able to duct the air properly
Go with what you know bro...

I am just trying to help you...

it's your money... and your grow..

but I will tell you this... heat builds...

If you do not have adequate ventilation, it;s gonna get hot... with an HPS a CFL or an LED... the heat must be ADEQUATELY vented...

the way heat builds in enclosed spaces , it does not matter the source or the temperature... the heat will BUILD..

that means that it will get hotter and hotter... hotter than the original heat source.. it becomes greater.. it builds up...

if you have enough airflow for that 125w cfl (they get hot as shit by the way...) you have enough for that 250...

if you don't vent right.. the 250 will cause the cab to get hot fast...

but believe me.. the cfl will catch up to it..

either you have adequate ventilation or it's gonna get hot...

if you want to save a buck and do it right... listen to me... don't hurry things...

but if you don't... for whatever reason... that's ok...

I'll still be here ... but do not get mad if I get to say I told you so...

Sorry dude...

I just can't sit here and not tell you what is on my mind...

Save your money man.. build a nice little OP...

if you buy anything for this grow.. make sure it's gonna be good enough to go in your OP...

no need to upgrade again and again...

remember my tent?

100% of that equipment is in use today... no waste...

think about it...

ask around some big time growers here...

they wil all tell you about the PILE of JUNK they have from upgrade after upgrade..

I got no junk.. I use everything I have and only have what I need...

as much as i would like an OP... i don't really feel like a large scale grow is what i need. these micro grows... spaced out over time should give me all the bud i need. i mean with your op, you're making well more than enough for personal use... the area i live in, your op gets big.. you get busted.. no more than 3 months ago an OP was busted something like 200 plants??? while that sounds awesome and i would love to "grow poundage" what i'm doing is working, and why take the risk of a large scale OP that will give me WAY more than i need. smaller scale, lower risk, less paranoia, more than enough bud.

for the record, my closet grow uses a 125W CFL and it is about 3 inches from the tops... hot, but no where NEAR the heat of a HID

I never said anything about a big op... I meant a micro op... but an efficient one...;-)

but I'll just shut up... and watch...

I mentioned in a past post I mounted a little cage fan in the roof...

and there it is. I also mentioned that I had put Arm&Hammer carbon pre-filters.

you can sort of see it in there.

Moving right along, this is how things go inside the cab...

spotted a FEW pre-flowers in there, learned my lesson, the INSTANT you see roots emerging from those sponges. be prepared to get some bloom nutes and 12/12 light going. i didn't want them to veg QUITE as much as they did, but with this cabinet and all the LST work, it should actually be a happy little accident.

NOW!! for a surprise...

the larger bulbs are 42W 2700k and the little guys are 10W 6500k.
i put together a pair of these, and WOW!! they are BRIGHT! only thing is... with the AG hood in place i'm not sure how to go about mounting them...

RIU!! HELP!! where do i mount these beauties?!

What I did, is simply place the bulb-stand-power-strip doohickey on top of something, say a book or cinderblock, to raise them to the appropriate height.

also makes for easy removal/adjustment :)

To get some more info on the lights, and the cabinet as a whole, I posted a thread in the DIY section about it, and its construction. DIY Stealth Cabinet Blueprint.

Here she is...

Thoughts and words now..

is that 2 bulbs or is there a splitter on each side?I personally would put a splitter on each side to where you can put 2 bulbs in each socket..1-low kelvin and a high Kelvin..on each side..Have a lil dual spec goin on in there.

:-| they're flowering.. haha they showed pre-flowers just a few days ago. ladies have been on 12/12 for a good while now. a sum total of 242W of CFL goodness, swapped out two of the 23W 2300K for 2 14W 6500K to even out the spectrum.

i've heard broadening the spectrum is crucial for CFL growing.. unlike HPS which is so powerful it does need a broad spec.

how much truth is there in that?

also added two DIY CO2 bottles, one on either side of the garden.. have people had success with DIY CO2? clearly a tank and solenoid and valves and blah blah, is VERY effective and produces a notable difference i would assume. but the difference made by DIY CO2 is it noticeable??

An HPS has a very broad spectrum already, that is why there is no need for different color temp bulbs.

Here's a picture of a HPS color spectrum.
