now I'm not a fan of the blurple that they are running, just passing the info. Also is there a cost efficient way to make a similar light? Like DIY? Preferably a cool white
@Growmau5 , @Greengenes707

I want to say these are 200W for both sides, but it might be one side. Anyways I'm interested in making some that are ran quite close to the plants... And I'm talking about other than Mary Jane.

As @welight explained, these use cheap inefficient SMDS

I really hate when they present: like the Steve jobs of LED lighting. like its cutting edge scientific method, talk and talk and talk, but not really say anything or worth.(steve wa great at doing that, if you even seen him, he can talk for an hour and you will leave with absolutely nothing to show for it)

none of them want to angle from growing cannabis specifically cause they are scared to loose what ever funding. (maybe)

growing carrots at 30watts Vs a plant that is bred to absorb, consume, and process light/nuets on a scale: that is 10,000 more in terms of utilization of resources.

I don't care how many colleges research videos. produce data about growing plants little of it applies to growing cannabis in a manner that aims to push the plant to its very edge.

I wanna see the test where they grow, carrots bred to prodcuce the highest Vitamin A levels under 4400 watts of DE HPS. pushing aggressive nutrient levels.

to many of these research projects err on the conservative theory, I want some people to waste some energy, forget carbon foot print, and grow some plants on roids.

I talked to the guy and he was happy with the efficiently at 50%, I told him he could be much better than that if he upgraded components... But like I said in the OP I'm looking for a solid DIY option. I would assume that a leafy plant needs only a few watts to grow efficiently... But hey that's why I asked

you can veg by torch light pretty much, if you have the extra week you can veg fine under a 2x4 4k 55watt LED shop light.

all new growers are fooled by how easy it is to VEG, I thought I was a BA, with my frig box lined in foil and 60watt indoor plant spot light, my reality was quickly brought in to focus when I cut the light time. even so, it is pretty easy to grow "something" its easy to play basketball with your friends too, but its nothing like the NBA level.

I think RAZ had a good point about and over overemphasis on lighting. as the primary focus on a grow set up. I have seen great flower grown by kinds, some high times winners where kind grown, but I'm not gonna name drop: they are some of the most recognized people we know, with laboratory like set ups. under conditions like that even a used ebay crackhead light would grow some decent smoke.

not everyone has the same tastes either, what I like and what someone else likes can be vastly varied. I don't really care about getting high, I love the flavors, the more complex sents and layers the better, ill put small amounts of lower in my cheek like chaw, I know its gross. it started with small soft steams, I noticed I could chew on them a bit and get some good flavors, now ill eat small cured flower whole lol.

the future: I don't see DE going anywhere soon. I think modular systems will be a future trend, I still think burlple might have place. the only thing I could bet on is that the hps mogul socket is history. not hat it wont work anymore but, I think most all research and new models will be DE.

growing plants is kind of like a conductor of a symphony, no performance is the same. difference is at the end the conductor doesn't kill everyone in his orchestra.

@MeGaKiLlErMaN i have been wanting to get some of the 1.8 inch heat sink profiles from heat sink USA have them welded together in a four sided vert fashion and then run some eBay cheapo 8-1 660/425nm strip lights with ecolocity led magalux 24v strips. I think this would absolutely kill in a vert type setup micro style. I want to do it in a 55 gallon brute trash can vert scrog style. You could easily cool this with one pc fan.

got room for a 2000w cool/warm panel lol? obviously you wouldnt run it that hot but... yea. 32$ for 10ct 100w cool white and 32$ for 10ct 100w warm white.

youd need to find the 5-7$ heatsink guy on ebay. hes nice. talk him into a deal on 20ct heatsinks

20ct 12v fans

12v 4A transformer

variable pwm circuit

high current inductor

power shotky diode

power rectifer

couple of 220v DC electrolytic capacitors 470uF or more to reduce ripple voltage on the DC side if you want to use up to 160-170vDC but id just use the inductor to smooth out a 120v signal and put four 30v cobs in a series. but do that same thing in parallel 5 times for 5 strips of 4x100w COBS.

lol

wtf thatd be fun

why cant i just put an LED tv on the animal planet over the plants? or play a blue ray of "Planet Earth" or "The Bible" over and over for the on cycle.....

18 hours of jehovahs witness lectures and 6 hours silence.
18 hours of simpsons episodes
etc

Optical-Fibers.jpg 1.jpeg are any companies using fiber optics in pin board thingies? thatd be crazy as shit. as the plant grow into it the pins would move out of the way lol. use itty bitty LEDs on each fiber..
