I love that you're talking about not appreciating the way these folk are portraying the movement, and then go on to call the guy a to-be transvestite. I reckon you should be our spokesperson! :) You make us all sound like such a kind nice accepting bunch. braids, dresses, god you folk are prejudice, you know nothing about these people. Would you talk shit about Jack Herer if he happened to look slightly different to what you are accustomed to?

in all seriousness, they shouldn't have sent "dress" to the tax board meeting. a grown man in a dress isn't going to help your case at all.

People are not berating him for wearing it to the tax meeting, they are doing it on a sweeping area, same with braids guy. Yes a suit in a tax meeting might have been more suitable, or heck, if he'#s so inclined a dress suit :D but what has that got to do with him being a transvestite waiting in the wings? This thread seems to be about judging the peoples outward appearances above anything else regardless of what they7 might have achieved with regard to "the cause"

It's my opinion that the cause is lost by default unless cali straightens out it's silly medical system and makes it work for people to get medical help, not get kids high.

I mean if you want to talk about doing the cannabis movement no favours the guy a few posts back thinks you toke on edibles, wtf? Here was me thinking we were trying to make the point that we're not all a bunch of brain dead hippies.

Without the city being "owed" $1.1 million dollars, the tax meeting wouldnt have taken place. The citys goal was to ensure they got paid, and his goal was to ensure they stayed in business......... From a city tax collector perspective, who cares what the guy wears, as long as they can pay their taxes, the longer the better! I'm sure the city in the area they are in has seen their fair share of weirdos, it just happens to be that this set is on television on a national program about a very controversial subject............ While the guys are weird, I do think they have the best intentions and their hearts are in the game.

I still take issue with taxes on marijuana at all, I dont believe in a tax on medication, and recreational users pose no harm and cause no public cost to need a tax to begin with....... Legalize, but no thanks on the tax.....

well thats closer to hate than truth.

Steven D is a big time activist for MMj, the biggest. Yall should do some research on the guy. His ponytails? Really? Are you ten years old now? I think he is gay yall, so how would you like him to dress? In pink with a tutu? His hair and hat? LMAO at the haterade you've been drinking.

His brother is high... der, like everyone else in the industry. Do you guys know anything about CA MMj? Its recreational under the guise of medical. Why should we pretend otherwise and discredit ourselves?

Rick's glasses? Really? Fat douche? Seriously, he is one of the most genuine respectful intelligent people in the industry. He, if anyone, shows the world that some of us are nerdy normal people who want to do our jobs to the best of our abilities. Stop drinkin' that haterade. You are way off here.
I did a little research on DiAngelo and Harbourside. Most of what I found was what I already knew. But I also found some rather disturbing stuff. Since some of you appear to know more about the scene (community, industry, whatever your preferred term is) than others I thought I would mention it here and see if I could get more info or clarification.

The information I found appears to place Don Duncan behind the scenes of Harbourside and pulling DiAngelos strings. Duncan is accused of some pretty shady (and rather shocking) practices involving local politics. (I prefer to let you locate the info yourselves. I do not wish to post possibly libelous information, especially when I am trying to vet this information, on a public forum.) After watching Weed Wars I was left with the same question many of you seem to have. How do a group of people who appear to have a less than stellar grasp of business knowledge build and run a business like Harbourside? Someone else pulling the strings seems to make sense. However, since this is a "reality" show, likely 90% of it was scripted, including the apparent incompetence. (I would almost be willing to bet dollars to donuts that the tax hearing was scripted, too) For all I know the Harbourside crew may be brilliant in real life.

My question / query is: Does anyone know if the rumors of Duncans involvement are true? Or do you have any information that would be helpful? I should mention that this is for my own curiosity, I am not involved in the movement the way people like DiAngelo are. Since I am new here and only have a couple of posts it could easily appear as though I have an anti-Steve agenda, (I don't) so I wanted to try and allay any concerns that may come up.

As for the show, I thought it was poorly done, but on par for a "reality" show. I do think that the show as a whole does not show the MMJ, or recreational MJ users for that matter, in a positive light.

I do think it's pretty sad that there is so much negativity in this thread towards LGBT people, for many reasons. Makes me want to show up at the next convention in braids and a pink tutu. Heh heh. Seriously though, there are a lot of gay or trans people who partake. Not only is that an entirely new group of people to smoke with, it's a whole group of people that will stand with us in the fight, who have fought their own battle and can help us manage our own battles, whether medical or recreational. Not to mention that most gay people are DINKS with lots of disposable income. :)

That would be fantastic. And this really is more to satisfy my curiosity than anything else. My guess is that there are a lot of rumor surrounding a very tiny kernel of truth. In either case it's good to see discussion about those who arguably have the means, financial and otherwise, to control the direction of the cannabis movement.

its funny seeing so many people make fun of these people for the way they dress which in some cases is a reflection of their sexual orientation. as others have already mentioned in this thread, medical marijuana was created BY and for hiv aids patients in the san francisco area. they are the ones who drafted the first medical marijuana legislation and worked to make it a part of california law. and california was the national pioneer of medical marijuana. they also opened and operated the first dispensary ever before prop 215. if you are a medical patient in any state you owe the LGBT community at least your gratitude for creating the legal auspices for you to freely enjoy and grow your own medical marijuana. thats right the only reason why you have medical marijuana is because gay people fought for it. if it wasnt for the AIDS epidemic in the gay community in san francisco, there might not have been a prop 215 and the only medical marijuana patients would be the four remaining patients who get their weed from the government every month. so the next time you wanna bash someone for being "gay" or "fruity," just remember that medical marijuana is a result of unprotected homosexual anal sex.

what does any of this have to do with wearing a dress to a tax board meeting? hell, i like to dress casual like the next man, but i'd still wear a suit.

also, who in this thread has bashed anyone for being "gay" or "fruity." i did a quick search of the thread and you're the only one whose even said "fruity"

This one of the things that makes think the entire show, including the tax hearing, was scripted and staged. Personally, if I had a hearing that was going to determine if and/or when I paid a million+ in taxes I would have my tax lawyer handle everything.
