get the largest umbrella shaped reflectors with 1000w sodium, mount it high, make it cover 5m2 or so put 50 plants or so well trained, you will get a huge gram for watt score, but whispy bud lol

thats why ive never paid any attention to gpw scores .. grams per m3 is the only thing that makes sense to me if you really want to maximize the potential of a given space, the amount of light used is just another varible factor along with growth method, training methods taking into account vertical growing and multi level grows maximizing vertical space etc etc
 
Was able to get up to 1.9 GPW with one strain Fruity Chronic, Chronic X White Widow. Only way I could could that was by running 4 per Sq foot in ebb and flo and having 18-20 inch tall plants with LOTS of leaf removal during the first 3 weeks of 12/12. I was getting 30 grams per watt AVERAGE and there was 64 on a tray under 1000 watt bulbs which is 1900 grams or just over 4 lbs. Most other strains gave me 20-25 grams per plant max. I have since gone to two plants per SQ foot and 40 gram per plant average (larger plants) and that comes to 1.28 GPW which is good enough. I just got sick of such high numbers. Was too much work to keep all my trays full all the time. Still very little veg and the plants are not very big. Much easier. Plants are vegged mostly under T5s and a 600 watt bulb. Oh and no CO2 used just lots and lots of fresh air being pumped into room 1050 CFM and my room only needs about 500.

Do you place rooted clones straight into flower or do they get a little veg time?... How long?
What is your procedure for leaf removal? how much, when, where etc?

Root them in a clone machine. I place them in 3.75 inch netpots with hydroton once they have thick roots. Place in a small Ebb flow tray under T5s. They then get put into 5 inch square pots with lots of holes drilled in the bottom and moved under a ebb flow 600 HPS tray. Once they hit about 8 inches tall they get placed under 1000 watt HPS ebb flow tray filled with hydroton. The holes on the pots allow the roots to grow into the bed of hydroton which is about 3 inches deep. First week of bloom they get 75% bloom nutes and 25% grow nutes. In fact here is my feed schedule for a 100 gal 4X8 table. Scoops are 4 OZ cups I use. Also I fill my res with H20 and add H202 for first 24 hours of every week for a mini flush once a week then just add my nutes the next day to the same water. I do mini pruning at the clone/veg stage to try and get them to grow into large mostly single cola plants. For the crazy yield I had to do 4 plants per SQ foot so 64 plants on a 4X4 table. I keep em on a rotating harvest which means that there are 20 plants under a 400w light. Half of the plants are late flower, half are early flower. I harvest 10 at a time and then introduce a new group as I'm going. Every group has gotten me 6 or so ounces. I divide that (168g) by 200w, to account that I only harvest half of the plants in the flowering room at a time. If I flowered them all at once I think I would get 12 ounces, but it would take twice as long obviously to get a harvest.

.21 and I thought I did damn good for a 1,000w. I dont understand how anyone could achieve 1.9.

Im not saying its wrong, but if you walk into a bar and start bragging about fish sizes, Im gonna take it with a grain of salt.

Well, 1.9 sounds questionable to me but I can hit 1kg/1kw fairly easily with the right strain selection and canopy management. That's with 12 plants under 1kw hortilux.

Because if you think about it, you have to manage a larger space.

Its easier to utilize every lumen when you have a 250w and a small cab.

But thats just my opinion.
Meh. It's all relative to the amount you're growing. More plants will naturally be more work, but the principles are the same. I pull 1gpw with 1kw no problem.

You know, I'm sure someone with a PHD would look at your formula and say "No, heres a better formula"....so many people here want to one up people with their better ideas....I for one follow the "Keep it simple, Stupid" program as much as possible.....The question was simple....how many grams per watt...you know what he meant....now just answer the question.....Like this, I used 250 watts and I got this many grams when I was done....we all know there are a thousand variables...Time..nutes..lights, how close..strain....on and on and on......Fuckin people annoy me sometimes....you are the one right now!!!!!
He gives a much better representative number though because it factors in time where as g/W ignores time. Not all strains mature at the same rate though. How do you differentiate between a strain that matures in 7 weeks or one that matures in 14 weeks? g/w is essentially meaningless for people comparing those 2 different strains. His g/kwhr compares total output with total input.

I'm not sure how simply asking grams per watt tells you anything without knowing the number of plants being grown. The numbers are obviously going to be higher with more plants.

For example.... I had one plant grown under a 400 watt HPS that yielded over 2 oz. dried and trimmed. So just over 57 grams.... that would make my grams per watt 0.1425. If I had grown 2 plants with the same results my yield would have been 0.285 grams per watt.

I'm just sayin.... I think the question would be worth more if you compared similar numbers of plants.... or just ask for the result of ONE plant in the crop...
The yield should be the same regardless of how many plants you have. If you are able to grow 2 plants under your 400 watt hps that are just as large and yield just as much per plant as your single plant grow, then you were wasting light during your single plant grow.

You are correct. A perpetual grow can't be represented by GPW alone. The number should be a dynamic one with time factored in the way you would with electricity.

Example; I produce 1000 grams per month with 2 600w lights. So the equation can be broken down to how much bud you grow by the hour, day or whatever. If could grow 600 grams with a 600 watt light but took an extra month to flower, the GPW means nothing. It should be gram per KWH. GpKWH. Even in one bang grows it would show the grower's/system efficiency. Far more important than overall yield at a time.

Well not necessarily. In order to take the recommended cuttings from a mom you have to have at least 3 full size mothers on a veg cycle for 18 a day, so most people dont factor the energy usage of the mother. I'd go on but Im getting headache just thinking about it. The coolest one Ive seen was an octagon ntf system that spiraled down around one 1,000w digilux bulb.
