Will this work!? (Bubbleponics)

Yeah man you do your thing, I would just rather have a powerful air pump instead of a less powerful air pump and a water pump that I will use for 5 days
Roots like o2 and the more of it the better as I am sure you already know

well this is all def. a big help thank you all. I had my regulators set at a slight trickle before, now they are completely off, but when i turn them back on maybe i'll back them down to just a drip once i have sprouts and then after like a few days or so turn it up a hair more (slight trickle)

quick question, when the pump is running...obviously you're pumping highly oxegenated water to the root zone but do you really actually see like a lot of bubbles going through the feeder tubes, cuz i see some but not a lot.....

It doesn't matter if there are bubbles or not. If there are, it just means that you are definitely giving them enough oxygen, but if you don't see bubbles, it's no big deal becasue the dissolved oxygen is what you're focused on, and obviously you can't see it cause it's dissolved. Basically, you're fine.

well things arent lookin good around here, i dont understand whats going on here.....I've always germinated seeds in peat pellets obviously cuz i am use to growing in soil. well i've got this rockwool shit now and straight water, i soaked the seeds for like a day and a half. All but two seeds that i dropped in the rockwool were already split. i pushed them in roottail down about to the middle of the cubes, dropped them into the system and turned the lights on for more heat and so that as soon as they popped up the light would be there. well now its been 48hrs since then and nothing is coming up. i looked in all the little holes in the rockwool and i can see the seeds but for the most part i see very little to no progress....I didnt even want to address this as its is so embarassing, but I always have sprouts by now!!!!! what could possibly be going wrong? is it the light shining down the holes of the rockwool bad?... i never remember reading anywhere that your suppose to squeeze the holes shut.....?
Did you soak the Rockwool cubes in pH5 water for a day before you put seeds into them? If not, that's prolly your prob....

I have never not even one time soaked my rockwool cubes in pHed water and there has never been a problem
I pour tap water over them and then sling out water until it is the weight that I want
pH is for nutrient uptake and availability, seeds aren't really soaking in the nutes at their young age so pH is not much of a problem
I would have to say that the pH has nothing to do with his seeds not sprouting

fuck it, i shut down both pumps, you're right they are too wet, once i get some sprouts i'll fire the pumps back up.
You should read the Bubbleponics threads. They will get you going in the right direction. You NEED to keep the Rockwool cubes wet at all times, until the roots hit the water. Your water pump should be pumping out a small trickle/fast drip to the net cups, at the verticle center , right?

If the roots are in the water why would you want to keep the cube wet?
My rockwool stays dry as a bone with my DWC your saying that adding a dripper would make the growth better?
I don't see how keep the main stem wet will lead to more growth
Right. After the roots hit the water, you pull out the feeding tube/dripper and the cube drys out. You never have to be concerned with it again.

Right, but he's just turning off the pumps for a little while to let them dry out some, not completely.

Hey thanks ya olhippy, things have been going well for the most part but these seeds are comin on slow, they were quick to split but they are draggin a bit showing out of the rockwool, i'll swing by your thread, it sounds like its starting to get exciting over there. Anyway yea I have only temporarily shut down my pumps until i see some sprouts then they will go back on.

finally I have sprouts showing as of last night and now this morning two of them have opened up to show their leaves. I dropped the seeds in the rockwool at 10:30 am on 12-8-09 and as of 9 am this morning I have two sprouts opened up and like 4 more just peaking still curled, hopefully they will show leaves by later today or tonight. The pumps are now back on.

You're rockwool looks soaked
That is stunting root growth, roots need to look for water
If you have the rockwool soaking wet all the time the roots will take longer to get to the water
You should leave one without a dripper on and see which one hits the water first

Lookin good Volcom. Glad to see you gettin some sprouts. I'm right behind ya buddy.
hey thanks man, yea you are, I'll be watchin for sure, i see yours are all split they are close. I have a few back ups goin if i need them, I am running them in just soaked rock wool sitting on a bed of hydroton in a tupperware with plastic wrap and a vent. seeing if they sprout any faster I just dropped the seeds in this morning at about 9 am. so if this method works faster, I'm definatly sprouting out of the system next time and then just dropping em in after they sprout.

I have a total of 6 out of 16 up right now but it looks like a few more will be up by sometime tomorrow. the 2 in the first pic are pretty much exactly the same size and of the same strain so i took one feeder tube out and will check to see if there is a difference in growth rate.

**for those of you (if any) who stemmed here off my outdoor journal, i've noticed that all the stems of my Armageddon cross sprouts are deep purple, which was not the case on the original strain (i'm excited!) I was doing some thinking last night tho and decided that the geddons may not do so well in a sea of green set up as they like to get very bushy. I just think of those giant green globes I had and think i might have a bunch of little green globes! lol i'm not working with much space so yea hopefully this new cross picked up a genetic from the male plant (not as bushy) as for the white widow crosses I think they will do amazing in this setup not to mention the bud structure of this plant is perfect for this sea of green.

Looks good man, you should leave one cup without a dripper to see if there is a difference. I know that the cup without the dripper would have the roots in the water first. You still on for comparing pics of my DWC vs. your bubbleponic at two weeks?

I think in the first pic there the plant on the left is the one that i took the dripper hose off of it to see how it does, and yea I would still like to compare lol. I think I may have a worthy contender as its root has already touched the water below. are you talking two weeks from the day I dropped the seed in or two weeks from the day the sprout came up?
