The deficit for fiscal year 2009 is Bush's, plus a little from Obama. It was 1.39 trillion. All that came after were Obama's.
The stayed relativly the same for a number of years. Until 2009 Bush deficits were 300 billion. Obama right now is at 600 billion or more.
let's take the recession period out. After all, Obama says the recession has been over for years now.
It's most fair to judge the guys by non recession deficits.
without major involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan wearing down, Obama is currently running deficits twice of what bush did at the height of both wars.
it's not fair to judge either man on the crazy times at the apex of the crisis. Judge bush prior to, and Obama after. Obama is twice as high.
150 to 300 billion dollar deficits are able to be recovered from and not cause massive damage down the road. Obama is running at 2-3 times the bush deficit.

keep in mind, bush got to $1.539 trillion from a starting mark of ZERO (or even a surplus).
obama got to less than a third of that from bush's all time high, record shattering deficit.

Now, the stimulus was passed in 08 and should have been a one time thing only affecting the 09 deficit.
To this day no one knows where all the money went.
So if the stimulus, 800 billion was taken out, the 09 deficit would have been 500 or so billion. But there were a host of other recovery aimed projects.
Take out the 3 years of the recession, 09, 10, and 11, drastic times call for drastic measures. So averaging without the 3 years the annual deficit mean is as follows,
Bush 4 (years) divided into 1185(total deficit of 4 years)
That's a little under 300 billion per year.
Obama, 3 (years) divided into 2416 (total deficit of 3 years)
That's right at 800 billion per year.
Yeah, Obama is the deficit hero.

The U6 number which is a much better indicator of unemployment is up near there. I believe that is what he was referring to.

The official figure is a function of those who are without a job who are seeking one.
A true measure would be those who have a job they are overqualified for, and those who would like a job.
If you put that number in there politically it would just be too high.
This isn't an Obama thing, that's how it's been for some time.
