Many years ago I worked for a company that required uniforms, nice black or navy blue slacks, collared shirt, dress shoes. Ties at one time were mandatory, but the nature of the job required occasionally working on machinery that could possibly get a dangling tie in its innards and asphyxiate a man. So we were no longer required to wear them.

Occasionally I might have to stop at a hardware store to get a simple bolt or nut to repair the machine and invariably I would be queried about the location of some part by another customer who only assumed I was a employee of the store. I always was polite to tell them I was not an employee, but if I did know the location of the item I would gladly help them.

I never once felt like a victim.

People's brains make mistakes, it's not intentional. Your brain sees one person and AUTOMATICALLY without any conscious thought on your behalf, prejudges that person, classifies them, and determines the odds of survival of an encounter with them. Everyone by nature is prejudiced.

I went to this one neighborhood whitey must not visit much to buy a LED panel from this huge buck. As soon as I stepped out of the truck I was getting "wtf you doing in this neighborhood".

On an estimate call, I was asked, just this summer if "I was lost." Then, I was confronted.

So I rattled the address to them and the guys first name and said that he had called me for an estimate, as I was approached by these fine citizens who I can only assume were part of some community watch program. I pointed to my wrapped company vehicle, and then this guy, with only just 4 of his friends standing there, fucking SCREAMED from the sidewalk to the dude "you got a visitor." Fucker then told me to wait for this guy to come out., which the guy was right out and telling them to go home, and put his arm around me to walk me up the sidewalk like we had been friends for years.

Yeah good friends, me and my glock 27 both approved that day, lol.

He hasn't called back for an appointment. Judging by his body language, its been since earlier this year, and the fact that he looked at the estimate and said it was, and I quote, "whacked", Im thinking I must have not been on my A game that day and lost, not only the job to some other shop, but a friend as well.
