The history of weed growing in Canada (especially BC) in the 80s and 90s?

My love affair with the herb started back in highschool, in the 80s. There was a disticnt change back then... we went from smoking relatively mild "Columbian", Thai Stick and "mexican ditch weed" etc... to smoking some scary potent shit we called "red hair sensi", which later became known as BC hydro in the later 80s.

What we didnt know was that it was indoor grown in BC. On a trip down the west coast USA i brought a big bag of the BC hydro down and i became an instant sensation on some south Cal beaches when i shared some with the locals. Nobody there had seen anything like potency of that BC hydro. I was 16.... and was promptly beat up and robbed of my weed....hahahahahah

Anyway, in the years followed, BC hydro became the standard in my province and it wasnt long before it was being sold all over the west coast US, in Amsterdam coffee shops and even deep into the American mid west. News stories from the US even decried Canada as being one of the biggest "drug" exporters to the the US.

Then came the whole HC medical weed deal..

So i have argued in many other threads on this site that such was what spawned the growing in the US, all down the west coast and into Colorado, as well as the medical movement down there. I have even gone so far as to argue that a lot of the strains that are said to have originated in CA or CO were actually started in BC. You can imagine the blow back on that from the Americans on this site...

Anyway, all of that history is going to be lost. The growers who started it all had to keep quiet to survive for obvious reasons. But it needs to be recorded...written...

So... if you were one of those founding fathers, or if you know any who would be willing to come forward (anonymously), please PM me... i would like to start interviewing... i know people who can make this happen...

But for the history to be legit...those founding fathers of BC hydro need to be legit....

PM me...

Lmao. Most of these famous old school sativa strains were breed by Mel Frank and breeder steve and Arjan in the 70's and 80's They're not canadian. 2 are from the U.S. but they all lived in europe at the time.mainly through out Holland. Mark emery and friend's brought those strains to Canada in the 80's and 90"s. The famous indicas originate from the Hindu kush region of Pakistan, China and Tajikstan

The red sensi.... is actually Panama red and / or Acapulco gold which originated from South America not canada. .

Again read an educated yourself. Quit making up bullshit.

Firstly, if you are referri g to my use of "red hair sensi" that was a local term we made up, which had nothing to do with the strain ....we knew nothing about it we were kids.

Secondly, i apologize for having implied that any strain was bred in Canada. I didnt intend that at all. It is quite obvious to any who live up here that the climate isnt right for any indigenous species of weed, except ruderalis.

Anyway, what id di mean to say is that the movement of indoor growing on a mass scale started in BC. There is no question of that...or that it was this movement that moved slowly down the coast i to the US.

i will admit... the founding fathers that i mention...many of them were American draft dodging hippees...

No. It didnt happen everywhere. Not all at once.

It started in BC and spread. Anybody in the "business" back then knows this. It is where they went to get their product for distribution....

I'll admit we got all our weed from canada. They came in those giant canadian ziploc then vacuum sealed in another bag. They were fire. Til the car accident in Costa Mesa california in 1998 took down the whole ring. Then it was garbage Chem death and beasters til about 2003 when everything and everyone from Humby and mendo took over the west coast. Then California became the best place for dank. Then in the last few years. There's been dank everywhere. Strains are easier to get now than they used to be.

So much train wreck , blue dream, mist and razzlberry came down from norcal in the early 2000's. I hate all those strains now.

Your delusional.
Tell that to Mark Emery, who moved to BC from Ont, i the early 90s when the export of BC hydro was already such a big deal that it was a famous in the east.

He made is fortune selling seeds to American growers. He is a big part of the movement.....

In like 1990-91 ( I was like 17 then) we stole one of my neighbors weed plants outside in his yard. Put it in a closet with a heat lamp and some pre mixed plant food. Lol it grew super big (probably male/stretched) This is the first time we've seen a real weed plant and not bud. One day a cop came to my buddies house looking for his cousin who used his address. Buddy's grandma let the cop in the house and when he went to the basement fucker saw the plant and pulled it out of the pot. He said it was the nicest weed plant he ever saw LMFAO.

Thank you.

There is merit in what i say. I dont claim to know it all, but did live a good deal of it. Its time that somebody put the pieces together.

There are pioneers down south of 49 too... particularly in wash state, oregon... i dont know much about the cali scene...

Ya pretty much i guess. Ditch weed grown as sensi...

No it didnt happen everywhere. Not at the same time. Thats why BC hydro became one of Canadas largest grossing agricultural exports to in a very short time. It is why the DEA took very acute interest in Canada and eventually railroaded Marc Emery into an American prison...

Amen. Even when I started smoking ten years ago, weed was way more skunky and pungent. Now you get mute, Kush or fruity smells. Which aren't bad but I'd love to find some killer skunky shit.

A bought one gram a few years back cause it was 15$/g and I just wanted to try this stuff out cause it smelled so pungent and sour.

And it was 1or two puff weed. Like instantly stoned. Had a friend over to try and he took one puff, blew it out and said "I think I'm already high". And he was indeed.
