It's now all about self censorship; the WaPo has an official policy that advertisers and customers of the newspaper are off limits for negative reporting, subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

I never met someone in the middle class who didn't have a beef with management where they worked. Some people hate their management, and don't agree with them about very much at all.

As a former union officer, I guarantee you I'm correct. Everybody criticizes managenent where they work!

So the reporter is not totally controlled by management. And a good reporter will break a story about anything if they find out about it, just to make a name for themselves. There's lots of jobs in journalism if you're in hot water for reporting something management doesn't like.

and you know, it's okay to have tabloid and fox as long as those who consume it, understand it's entertainment and not truly factual, although they start with facts.

when i was a kid i'd love reading leftover national enquirer and star that was around, but i knew then it wasn't real- age 11.
