President Asshole wants to challenge broadcast licenses

Do you believe in a free press?

Don't think media censorship and overt corporate control isn't already happening, and apparently they don't bother hiding it because they think Americans are too stupid to care- or too powerless to do anything about it.

Jimmy Dore?

How would his show go over under Putin?

He'd turn up missing like the others and he isn't even a major player?

Yes I believe in a free press.

It would be nice if we had one.

LOL.

You could make the point that since the '80's, tabloid journalism has exploded and all news now chases ratings and profit.

You could make the point that right wing radio has a brainwashed fact free following.

I could go on. And on. And on. etc.

Can you list a few subjects (other than selected national security secrets) the press isn't allowed to report on by ownership?

Just the facts, sir. I'm curious.

Also, YouTube's percentage of reliability is a fraction of what Fox's is. Seems scary.

It has nothing to do with YouTube or other media outlets, the problem is a complete lack of critical thinking wherein people stopped asking "is that true?"

Blame the public for being so ignorant, not the television equivalent of clickbaiters.

It's now all about self censorship; the WaPo has an official policy that advertisers and customers of the newspaper are off limits for negative reporting, subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

How is that free?

Are you referring to their social media policy?

That isn't 'reporting' is it? I want to see where any legitmate news organization is restricted as to what they can report.

It's still censorship, isn't it?

I don't think so. How is it censorship?

Companies have rules. I didn't like all my company's rules, but if you want to work there you follow them.

A reporter does his/her reporting on the job. Not on FB, right?

I have trouble with your implying we don't have a free press in this country because of the Washington Post's social media policy.

We have a free press here. That social media policy doesn't change anything in my view. Do you have a better example?

Let's just see how many hard hitting investigative pieces they do on their advertisers.

they're in on it because all the advertising revenue they receive every four years would disappear.

they don't want to end lobby, or EC or campaigns that spend BILLIONS (2016 4.4) because they have to, to compete.

such a vicious circle, therefore media must be fought in their own right- they're a HUGE part of the problem.

recall: how they stopped exit polling when Sanders won a state..why? they were more than happy to report primary results from east coast, while contests not yet ended on west coast.

anyone see anything wrong here?

Not buying it.

It's like you're grouping ownership and the ground floor journalists together. They're not.

I never met someone in the middle class who didn't have a beef with management where they worked. Some people hate their management, and don't agree with them about very much at all.

As a former union officer, I guarantee you I'm correct. Everybody criticizes managenent where they work!

So the reporter is not totally controlled by management. And a good reporter will break a story about anything if they find out about it, just to make a name for themselves. There's lots of jobs in journalism if you're in hot water for reporting something management doesn't like.

and you know, it's okay to have tabloid and fox as long as those who consume it, understand it's entertainment and not truly factual, although they start with facts.

when i was a kid i'd love reading leftover national enquirer and star that was around, but i knew then it wasn't real- age 11.

that's your opinion..and thank god trump hasn't taken it away- yet.

i saw it on rachel maddow and i can't find it.
