Grow advise/questions for a first time grower.

Hope everyone is doing well. New to the forum but not new to cannabis. Now I have never grown myself, but worked in a grow in the current state I live in. Finally have the space and means to grow on my own. It will be my wife and my first time growing and we are both very excited. Grow set up:
Tent 3x3x6ft
1200w LED light
Have 6in ventilation
Growing in FoxFarm Soil
Seed: x1 GG4XCNC4 (Cookies&cream)
X2 GuavaXCNC4
X2 Fruit Smoothie
X3 TangiexCNC4 (might end up trashing and doing there own grow, slow growing compared to the rest).
All seeds have sprouted and looking healthy except the tangies.
My question and some advise from all you growers. As far as a finishing pot im going to use smart pots, but cant decide on size, 2gl or 3gl. And then is it worth it to transplant to a 1gl first then to the 2/3gl? I know it promotes root growth and training but im not looking for large yields at this time. More looking to learn. If i can keep the 5 good seed and just junk the 3 tangies i have will i be able to fit 5 3gl smart pots safely or will i need to use 2gl? Thank you for all help and anyone who reads this. Im all ears and will take any advice given.

The biggest thing is that light is going to limit you. The “1200watt“ light isnt Even close to to Being enough.

I know its not a legit 1200w coming from it but read enough that it would suffice to get me through a grow start to finish.

Hi , welcome to riu.

They are currently in pretty small cups will small amounts of soil, me personally, i would move them into 1gs first then into a 3g to finish up. If for nothing else than easier watering and less chances of overwatering small plants in big pots. Obv you can easily just move them directly into the 3gs, you just need to be more cautious about watering while they are smaller.

Best of luck

Thank you! That was my initial plan to do a 1gl to a 3gl just want to make sure the tent can handle atleast 5 plants.

I would go 1 to 3.

Best of luck!

edit: and you should be able to fit 9 5 gallon pots if they’re not chubby ones. Just for reference

I actually bought 5gl pots but then realized when they grow might bush out too much for the 3x3 tent. Thats why i want to do 2 or 3gl pots. Again not going for yields, just want to learn on this grow.

Ya the plants will never get big enough to need that much root space. If you’re growing with coco you could run 1G’s the whole way if you water enough, but again, not highly recommended. You’re on the right path :)

Things I wish were consolidated for me when I first started. This is only my opinion, but I consider a few things CRITICAL.

1) Airflow - I mean, the more the better. In my opinion, there is no such thing as too much fresh air. In Cannabis’s natural environment, the fresh air is unlimited. Not only does this significantly increase the amount of CO2 (photosynthesis fuel) without needing any fancy supplies, it will prevent you a whole host of nasty problems (mold, mildew, bud rot, anaerobic pathogens in general). Gas exchange is paramount for everything from the roots to the leaves. This is an important factor for a successful new grow — things like sealed rooms and CO2 are niche (and advanced).

2) Proper watering. One of the things you mentioned is transplanting as the plant grows. In general, this is pretty helpful in preventing overwatering without having to stress over it. It’s not absolutely necessary as long as you carefully consider the plants’ water needs, but transplanting is a good technique. Aside from that, it helps to just consider the size and stage of the plant. A one-week old seedling with a 2 inch tap root does *not* need a gallon of water, and so on.

3) Maintaining a proper environment (temp, humidity, and their relationship a.k.a. VPD) is huge. I really screwed this up my first grow (too high humidity with too little airflow) and it ruined my very first effort. Really monitor your environment through the first few weeks especially until you have a basic idea of where your temps and humidity are.

You may know a lot or all of this already, but if not, I hope it helps you to have a killer first grow. Lots of good resources here on RIU.

Looks like you have a good plan and it's smart to ask questions before starting. Solo cup to 1 gal, then 3 gal works well for photo periods but if they're autos you may want to skip the 1 gal. I would start with 2 plants myself, top once and LST to fill the tent. But, several plants that aren't grown too bushy works too. Good luck and don't over-water, :)

Thank you for the advice. I am very careful with watering, and my twnt is staying a consistant 75-77deg and the RH has been around 50-60%. Have ventilation and all. Im keeping all numbers level and trying to make sure nothing gets to high.

No autos for me. Not sure if im gonna top yet or not. If i do will just top once. Again all trial and error for me

Definitely give this a read....at least the first page before you make a decision on topping. very good info.

So its been 20 days since seeds were put into dirt. I would say 16 days since they all broke through. Should i be seeing more growth by now? They all have there 2nd set of leaves forming and sone have the 3rd coming out just feel like they should be a little further along by now. Also should i move them to 1gl pots soon or wait longer?

IMO, they look too wet. Do you have plenty of drainage holes in the cups? I'd pot up and let them dry out a bit, make sure your new pots have plenty of drainage.

Have plenty of drainage and am not over watering. Only watered 2 times since put in. Last time i watered was 3 days ago.

I would expect a bit more growth than that, but there are many variables involved. What strain? What lights? What are your temperatures and humidity? What's your water pH? What type of "dirt"?

No, you should definitely not replant those into 1 gal pots yet.

Its a 1200w led greengo light (hoping to upgrade by end of month)
Few different strains, GG4XCNC4, GUAVAXCNC4, TANGIEXCNC4 AND FRUIT SMOOTHIE
Temp has been steady 68-78 from day to night and the rh 50-60% range
Using foxfarm seed starting soil. Going to switch to FFOF once transplanted
