Defund Police

Umm kept at least one less vote for Republicans. Even a placeholding, integrity-less independent has more integrity?
Yeah, Bernie remained alive and kept a place open for a Democrat. Do know what the word "mediocrity" means? Other than "Senator Bernie Sanders", that is.
Camden broke the union then doubled the size of the sheriffs office, rehired most of the disbanded police force and re unionized in one year, dont think its a great example.

Our governor Kate Brown just strengthened unions and their collective bargaining rights about six months ago, with HB2016 [familiar with that @Fogdog ?] With language that makes it seem hard to even suggest disbanding the union by a public official, elected or paid, without incurring an unfair Labor Practice violation, whoopsie!

New Unfair Labor Practices
Finally, HB 2016 makes it an unfair labor practice for a public employer to (1) “[a]ttempt to influence an employee to resign from or decline” union membership; or (2) “[e]ncourage an employee to revoke authorization” for dues deduction.
With the cut in funds, so goes the jobs. Unions don't get a say in that. It's not an unfair labor practice to change staffing according to need.

I get that you want to go all extreme about what dumb things Democrats "might" do as if it were fait accompli. After all, that's how propaganda works. But really, dude, Republicans have little to show for their "small government" management style. Trump's administration is a shit show. I get that you want us to imagine it's not. Democrats are the ones who approach governing with the intent to make government effective, Republicans want to rule and not govern. After that, they start with the corruption.

But really, my dear Republican Oregonian, Oregon doesn't have to take the lead here. We can watch and see what other states manage to do and choose what works best.

Kate Brown rocks. Smart, effective and works well with others.

Policing issues are complex and involve more than racism, as social and mental health services were cut and their functions were collapsed onto police forces. Add to that the increasing militarization of police, their isolation from many of the communities they serve in and the drug war, to the mix of racism prevalent in all areas of American society. There is an attitude of us against, them coupled with one of, if the only tool you have is a hammer, then you tend to see your problems as a series of nails.

Back to racism which is the acute problem driving the whole reform process, not really disbanding the police as much reforming them (some places will have to start from scratch) and putting them into a bigger menu of professional social services. For those who want to discuss the racial aspects of this issue, here is some data to drive the conversation.

10 things we know about race and policing in the U.S.
Days of protests across the United States in the wake of George Floyd’s death in the custody of Minneapolis police have brought new attention to questions about police officers’ attitudes toward black Americans, protesters and others. The public’s views of the police, in turn, are also in the spotlight. Here’s a roundup of Pew Research Center survey findings from the past few years about the intersection of race and law enforcement.

Stay on topic.

The race stuff is elsewhere. This is about changing policing in the US. I named a demographic. White boomers. Look it up. They are the core of the Republican Party.
Well you basically called me a white boomer, so it was on topic.

White boomer is a demographic that is often cited in surveys. There are times when it's best to be direct in one's writings rather than observe political correctness that you seem to be asking for.

I'm sorry that this triggered you and you were unable to read any further. Is this where your kind would call somebody snowflake?

Well I'm not a white boomer. Both my parents are though and they're both democrats.

And it was someone else who called me a snowflake that clearly shouldn't be saying things like that. If you look at his avatar you'll know what I'm talking about.

Are you still upset that I called you vanilla cupcake?

That must have been a year ago

Who just gave police unions extra power and collective bargaining rights. The timing is extremeley tone deaf.
Do you get how far union protections are codified in state legislatures, doubtfully, with all that fait accompli garbage.

The rest is all strawman, that you then make an argument for, is disengenuous at best.
Republicans obviously offend you, I have a take different than you backed on what I see as facts and not emotion. So therefore, I am a republican, is actually your version of an actual fait accompli, a lazy one too.
[Slowly]Defund the police is another.

OK, to keep you happy, consider the word "slowly" in front of the word defund whenever you see talk of defunding police.

A liberal upbringing spoiled you, it was probably a "child centered home", they should have beat you more and when ya got older the old man shoulda used the buckle end of the belt on ya. Seeing how ya turned out I'm sure they regret it, especially now that ya carry Trump's water and want to throw them and other old folks under the fucking bus, way to go son. Some just turn out bad I guess.

It actually originally did interest me, but nobody seems to want to have a logical discussion in this section. Everytime I'm in this section people just talk crazy shit, and try to insult me. Calling me a white racist cop, and so on.

I am white, but that's the only thing you guys got right.

Yes, it's expected to see hysterical exaggerations coming from white conservative Boomers and their ilk.

It's too much to ask you to READ what the proposals are. The proposal is to make cops more effective by removing responsibilities from them that they are not trained or able to fulfill and fund departments that are able to handle them. We will put out a picture book so that you can find out what the plan is.
It’s amazing how quickly I started hearing “theys lefties wanta close our poolice”. Yup, hand on forehead moment ........ FML.

Yeah she should have just not signed the budget and let Trump shut down the government during the holidays again so millions of people don't have a paycheck during them.

Your Left-troll is stale.
Everything is the Republicans fault, even being a feckless minority leader
