Trump: Request for 10K Guard Troops Rejected Days Before Riot
Former President Donald Trump says he was concerned days before the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol about the size of the crowd expected near the Capitol and requested 10,000 National Guard troops to be deployed, but that his request was rejected because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other leaders did not like the optics.

"I requested, I said this rally will be bigger than anything thinks," Trump told Fox News' Steve Hilton on "The Revolution" Sunday night, in an interview airing after his CPAC speech. "Everyone said we'll be at the rally. It was, I think, the largest crowd that I have ever spoken to before. I have spoken to big crowds, hundreds of thousands of people, more than that, but hundreds of thousands of people."

Trump said he "gave the number" to the Department of Defense that 10,000 members of the National Guard would be needed.

"They took that number, from what I understand, they gave it to people at the Capitol, that is controlled by Pelosi, and I heard they rejected it because they didn't think it would look good," said Trump.

So Trump knew he was orchestrating a dangerous situation?
An obvious lie, note the source, Trump and Newsmax, also it appears to be an admission of guilt of the dangerous situation he created.

Of course, The Acting Sec'y of Defense appointed by Trump, Christopher Miller, made certain by memo that deployment required his OK on that day.

I bet the bigwigs in the GOP are very relieved that Trump gave his word that he didn't want to start another party.

Trump lies. If that had been true at the time, it would have been noted by somebody else way before now.

The acting secretary of defense, Christopher Miller, who was installed by Trump on Nov. 9 after he fired then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper, said in a written statement Friday that nine members of the Defense Business Board had been replaced with the appointment of 11 new members.

Lewandowski and Bossie are among Trump’s most vocal supporters. The nine other appointees are Henry Dreifus, Robert McMahon, Cory Mills, Bill Bruner, Christopher Shank, Joseph Schmidt, Keary Miller, Alan Weh and Earl Matthews.

Remember when these guys told us we would need 10000 National Guardsmen??

me either.

FBI Dir Wray Testifies About 1/6 Law Enforcement Failures, Republican Senators Ask Foolish Questions

It's undeniable that there were significant law enforcement and security failures at the US Capitol on January 6. FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about what the FBI knew and when it knew it.

Although these are serious issue, the Republican Senators did their best to inject a good bit of levity (albeit unintentionally), asking about everything BUT the Trump-inspired insurrection at the Capitol. Here's a recap of the serious AND the frivolous questioning of Director Wray.

Why Did The Pentagon Lie About Flynn's Brother's Role In The Jan 6 Response?

Rachel Maddow reports on some of the revelations to come from a Senate hearing on the slow National Guard Response to the pro-Trump riots at the Capitol on January 6, including confirmation that Mike Flynn's younger brother, Charles Flynn, was involved in the process behind that delayed response.

FBI Releases New Photos Of People Involved In Capitol Riot

The FBI has released new images of those involved in the Capitol riot and is seeking information. NBC's Pete Williams reports on developments in the court cases against those who participated in the breach and how federal prosecutors have not offered any plea deals to those charged.

BREAKING: Members of Congress who had communications with rioters on or around the January 6th Capitol riot are having their phone records examined.
I've been waiting for this. You know they have the video from the day before the riot where staffers and members showed them around. So they know who to look at.

This is an interesting development. The brother of the disgraced but pardoned Michael Flynn delayed deployment of National Guard troops for three critical hours on Jan. 6.

The timeline:

  • 1:30 p.m.:
    • Capitol Police are overwhelmed and forced to retreat up the steps of the Capitol.[54]
    • Large numbers of Trump supporters march from the Ellipse 1.5 miles down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Capitol.
  • 1:34 p.m.: D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser requests via phone that Army Secretary Ryan D. McCarthy provide an unspecified number of additional forces.[56]
  • 1:35 p.m.: In Senate deliberations, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) warns that refusing to certify the results of the presidential election under false pretenses would push American democracy into a "death spiral".[54]
  • 1:49 p.m.: Capitol Police Chief Sund requests immediate assistance from District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG) Commander Major General William J. Walker.[56][52] Major General Walker loads guardsmen onto buses in anticipation of receiving permission from the Secretary of the Army to deploy.[52]

  • 5:08 p.m.: Army senior leaders relay to Major General Walker the Secretary of Defense's permission to deploy the DCNG to the Capitol.[52]
  • 5:40 p.m.: 154 DCNG soldiers arrive at the Capitol Complex, swear in with the Capitol Police, and begin support operations, having departed the D.C. Armory at 5:02.[56]
  • Around 5:40 p.m.: As the interior of the Capitol is cleared of rioters, leaders of Congress state that they will continue tallying electoral votes.[54]
  • 5:45 p.m.: Secretary Miller signs formal authorization for out-of-State National Guard to muster and deploy in support of U.S. Capitol Police.[56]

According to testimony during the recent Senate hearings, Michael Flynn's brother, Charles Flynn delayed deployment of troops because "bad optics", something that was not a concern when troops were deployed during a demonstration that was peaceful in comparison to what went down on Jan 6. At that time, there was no hesitation on the Pentagon's staff.

D.C. National Guard chief: Pentagon took 3 hours to greenlight troops during Capitol assault
One of the military leaders who advised against deploying troops was Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn, the brother of ex-Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, the Guard chief said.

“The Army senior leaders said that it did not look good” and would not be "good optics,” Walker said, adding, “They further stated that it could incite the crowd.”

Walker said he was told then-Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy was meeting with then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller and they could not be on the call, but the senior military leaders who were on the call said it was their best advice not to have uniformed Guardsmen on the Capitol grounds.

Walker identified those senior leaders as Gen. Walter Piatt and Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn — the brother of Trump’s first national security adviser, who was pardoned by Trump after twice pleading guilty to lying to the FBI during the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the Trump campaign

Senate Hearings Reveal Disturbing Evidence Re: Trump Installed Secretary of Defense Chris Miller

In a series of Senate hearings, we've learned that the security failures at the US Capitol may have been orchestrations by the likes of General Charles Flynn and Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller. Indeed, while the Capitol was under attack, Miller inexplicably delayed for hours the deployment of National Guard troops.

All along, there were so many unanswered questions about Chris Miller: why did Trump install an entirely unqualified person like Miller as Acting Secretary of Defense AFTER Trump lost the election? lt obviously had nothing to do with the efficient running of the Defense Department or national security. And why did Miller obstruct the Biden transition team, shocking Defense Department officials? Given what we are learning about Miller's role surrounding January 6, we may be starting to see why Trump put Miller in place.
