Ok... So tangent time.

My wife is a knitter, now I'm not saying she sometimes knits, I mean she is fucking knitting ALL THE TIME. Walking through home depot I feel like I've got my grandma behind me, knitting a sweater and not paying attention to shit else. A few times I've had to grab her should her and yank her away from walking into the random shopping contractor on a mission. Anyway...

About a decade ago, I come out of my utterly hotboxed studio, blurry eyed, after hours of staring at my piano keys and computer monitor. I get to the kitchen and about 9 feet away I see my wife unpacking her shopping bag. With a nonchalant motion she whips out what looks like a turkey bag filled with deep olive green with hints of red hairs, so full it's bulging. I let out a gasp, and barely utter, "Where the hell did you go and score today?"

She just looks at me blankly, "What?"

Me: "That's at least a H.P. if not a full pound bag, where the hell did you go?"

She picks up the bag, "This yarn?" and she roars into laughter.

To this day she talks about the really dank bag of yarn she brought home one day.

Fast forward about 6 or 7 years and she figures out what to do what that cheap yarn a friend gave her. She used a small portion of the bag to knit the pot leaf into the weed cap she knitted for me one Christmas.

Some lessons learned from my last grow:
4 plants are too many for a 2 x 4 grow tent. I had to see for myself. Recommendations of 2 plants from you guys were spot on.
I had mixed results with miracle grow soil, would not recommend. Some people learn from their experiences, others just go on having them, that's me.
There's a surprising volume difference between a 2 x 4 and a 3 x 3 tent.
Bushy pants look nice but too much vegetation in an enclosed environment is conducive to mold. I had 3 fans going but still had mold problems. I could never bring myself to trim them enough.
I had problems with 4 plants having different growth rates. 2 of the plants suffered because of it. One grew too tall too fast and had to be severely super cropped. The other grew too slow and got choked out in the narrow confines of the 2 x 4 tent. Got maybe 3 oz's total from those 2.
Maxi-bloom and Maxi-grow rock! All you need.
4 gallon SIP pots are plenty big enough to grow big plants. The plant in the garage is still going strong, 10th week of flower in a 4 gallon SIP pot, gets maxibloom and tap water every other day.
Here she is:

51 and rainy today, good napping weather, but in my case any weather will do. My bones are not happy however, this getting old shit sucks. Not getting older would suck more however. I think I'll just snuggle up with my blankee for a bit.
Corned beef and cabbage (after St Patties day sale) or sketti's for dinner, not sure which until later.

2 X 3.15 foot closet. design #4. I never could fit more than 3 plants in here. I ran 4 when I started but it became an unmanageable mess, had to use 3 gallon pots which needed watering every day and back then I was using a 250w HPS, so mold wasn't an issue but a yield of 4oz and bud density were issues.

12 years and two lighting systems later, I regularly run 3 plants, and get between 13oz and a lb per harvest depending on strain. It gets tight so the training is brutal (hence all my jokes about being a mean plant dad) to keep them short and just bushy enough. Had mold with a couple less tolerant strains, after switching the LED and blowing the hell out of my old yields, (the first mold ever really borked my 2020/4/20 celebration too) but so far only twice and I just ditched those strains.

Plant #3, the one in front, is always about 33% lighter than the other two, I can only guess because it's hanging out of the lighted area a little bit and doesn't get as much light.

Week 5 1/2 today.

I'm almost halfway through my trim jail sentence and got some great news this morning that made my weekend. I won a giveaway today from Phlizon for a 640 watt bar style LED. I'm gonna replace the Spider Farmer quantum board style light in my flower tent with it for my next flower run and see how it does. Here's what I've gotten through trimming so far with 2.5 plants done and 3.5 to go. Looking like a nice yield this run.

just finished trimming the oreoz; humidity check after one hour in a jar was 54%, so i'm really hoping i didn't overdry it. it was a small yield at 1.5 oz. 3G auto, and i ended up accidentally breaking off branches early on with LST training; regardless it was always the smallest plant of the four in the tent. the smoke report is good, however. love the flavor, dry mouth within a minute of exhale, has a nice happiness to the high. still needs to cure but overall i'm not mad at it; doubt i'd grow it again though. the purple wedding cake is still curing and i'm waiting until a full 2 wk cure before smoking.

i actually discovered more mold today on a batch from my first grow. i packed and heat sealed 10 oz in grove bags back in january, but i packed a little fido flip top jar with some nugs for enjoying on the porch. totally forgot about it until today. opened it up for a sniff and the smell of mold hit me. many of the nugs were gray on top. so into the trash it went. not sure what happened there? those jars are supposed to be airtight. i checked everything in the grove bags and they seem to be okay, but now i'm nervous as i've given a few ounces away to friends already.

I found early in my growing that buds had more moisture than I thought based on feel. I would leave them for 12 to 24 hours and the meter would say 56, than 2 days later I'd check and they'd be in the mid 60s. I started just checking them every 12 hours after that until a full day went by without a significant increase. Also sometimes when lazy I just take the dry really fast and forgo a cure for buds I can seal up with no danger.

I remember the total devastation when I threw out my first skunk kush plant entirely because I forgot a bag of 4 ounces of weed in a different drawer to the other weed for 2 weeks... Felt like the most waste ever. Now I throw out half smoked joints because they taste too already been burned >.<

yeah, my first grow i ended up over-drying so now i check every 12 hours and wait for a stable number for a minimum of 2 days straight. my drying space has such low humidity that trying to manage drying weed is MUCH more labor-intense than actually growing it.

Congrats on the contest win. That must of been a nice surprise!

I grew in "rooms" for decades (in semi-arid Colorado)...not tents...so tents are more humid than I like. Drying for me...in most instances...is a >slow-it-down< process. I've learned how to do it but it does take time/keep you on your toes. It's much easier to just chop all of it into the hash bag!

I did just dry some in the freeze dryer for the first time. Seemed to go OK. Haven't sampled much...but the terpier Melonsicle does smoke pretty nice... like it was dried slower/etc. Not as nice as the 2 week dried Hella Jelly but I don't think the dry is the difference. The Hella is just really nice pot.

Nice plants all....

how do you use the freeze dryer for weed? i always assumed that freeze drying was for if you intended on pressing or making bubble hash. i prefer to smoke or vape flower.

I didn't know it was a thing until recently. This was my first go of it. I'm sure it's like hash (why I bought the FD) in that it takes a few times to get things down/where you want them. I prefer my hash just a tad wet/taffy-like rather than powder dry like some of the videos I've seen with the "experts" in tow. bongsmilie

For weed...I noticed that the Melonsicle had a bit more moisture remaining at the end of the cycle while the rest seemed truly dry.....and they were all ran for the same time. Everything is smokeable within 24 hours. (like hash) I can see folks in humid areas drying fast to avoid the molds/etc. I don't deal with that here unless I jar too early and then space king it out...LOL. BT, DT.

I've smoked more joints (I only smoke with a filter) in the last month (maybe 10) than in the last 3-4 years because the terps on the Hella just called to me. I just can't do it like I used to. Clogs me the f up. The hash is far cleaner/works better for me...but we're all different. I do miss those fatties though.
