Before someone crawls up my butt for being a trophy hunter, I'll qualify this by saying I'm a meat hunter. I utilize every animal I harvest & if it happens to have nice horns or antlers then its a bonus. I've fed my family for over 25 years mostly on wild game & I have to say we eat good !
Here is a couple shots from last fall - the moose has a 46" spread (not a monster but Lots of fantastic eating). My Dall sheep is 36" with 13" bases and talk about tasty - some of the best meat you've ever eaten.
We'll start with that.
Peace

hi i was brought up as a meat hunter myself hunting deer. over the years though ive been more selective with my take by taking more bucks and less does. i have seen in increase in deer but not as many bigger bucks as i used to see. i hunt every chance i get and i could get a shot almost every time but choose not to. i like to watch them almost as much as the shot and the tracking. after the shot is when the real work starts but you already know that. heres a few pics from the past few years. i take my deer only during archery season.

a girl i know took this picture when she went to alaska. but she took the pic of the moose walking down the stream. when she got home and developed them she saw the bear in the background watching the moose. she said if she had seen the bear she would have never got the pic.

I accidentaly moved to Illinois in 97 & was forced to hunt w/ archery tackle. Did pretty well taking 13 deer in 3 years - mostly mature doe's but a couple bucks. Nothing as nice as yours congrats!
Back home now but the stick & string training will come in handy as I'm heading out for Mt. Goat with the bow this fall in addition to my annual Moose hunt.

thank i really dont like hunting with a bow but where im at now its like shooting fish in a barrel so i wont use a gun. im used to hunting in the mountains and using a rifle. but also working your butt off for a deer.
accidentaly moved to illinois? i was in great lakes for bootcamp and school, it was pretty cold when i was there. back in the 80's

Yeah, our uncle decided I needed to be there (St louis) & I put up with it for 3 years & decided that if I didn't move north I was going to go "Postal". But I'm better now. BTW my boot was Cape May NJ in 77 & "graduated" in 2000. You?

how's that sheep meat?
Dall sheep steaks are the bomb - I'm not too fond of the burger - but backstrap on the grill is something I'm sure they have to serve in heaven.

Airman - no trophys? Shit man thats a nice buck - much better than any whitetail I ever got, but then again we have Sitka blacktails here & the racks are nada compared to that one.
Again, nice buck.
How about a Billy? I've gotten lucky enough to be drawn a couple times here & scored - quite a bit of work, but damn they are really good on the Barbi aswell.
Peace

Those bucks are about the typical size of what's around here. I have blown every chance I have had on larger one's. They are a little bit smarter. Here's a couple more pictures.

i used to hunt partridge back in the day. no time for it now. i came across a tree one day with a partridge in it and no not a pear tree lol. anyway i had a 22 so i took the shot. as it fell i noticed another one. i took that. and started looking all over the tree. i saw another one and as it fell, it fell past another one and scared it. when it flew there was another 6 that flew away with it. if i didnt skip the 3rd one up and take the fourth one i could have got them all. but i took 3 of them and made a nice dinner for the family.

Grassified your pics are obnoxiously big and they make me scroll. So annoying having to scroll horizontally to read posts.

Huh, I must be running a different IE cause the pic's look normal here.

Air; A couple more for you. First one was several years ago - took a 100' crabber around to the south side of a VERY large island in Alaska & shot somewhere in the neighborhood of 34 deer. Not a bad time, deer everywhere & liberal limit.
Second is my largest Sitka to date. He just misses the book by about 3" & I'm gettin antsey to go huntin now, but fishing is the first act in the show around here.
