Super-newb - Aerogarden Grow

FIM is what happens when you top and don't do it "cleanly" Check HERE for the full rundown. Essentially you top but don't get ALL of the apical meristem (i remember that word from Biology for Non Science Majors :) ) So instead of it splitting off into TWO main colas, you get two colas and then a little something. That link will answer ALL of your questions. Growman really knows his shit, and is usually around to answer questions. He just got done with a big outdoor harvest recently though... and has been a little spotty, but plenty of other posters there to help you out. Hope that answers some questions..

:peace: and :hump:

well, i got that part, its just that from reading all the threads around here, my understanding is that FIM > Topping.
Then when sicc said "top instead", i got confused. Is one or the other harder/easier on plants? Which, generally speaking, produces better results?

Siphoned out the AG-nute-water currently in there out, replaced with my 1Teaspoon/1Gallon FoxFarm GrowBig mix.

I do have a question about cloning, in regards to my plants. I picked up some Hydroton at a hydro store I found, can I just put that into a dixie cup, poke holes for water and insert into another cup, fill with a little bit of hydroton and stick in a clone?

Is it too early to try and clone from these girls? Should I let them veg out a bit more?

Plant in the last pic was FIM'ed yesterday, and the tallest one was topped today.

I've read that 4 weeks is the very earliest that you should take clones.

Next grow, you should definitely look into getting more CFLs to keep your plants from stretching.

Thanks. The CFLs are an ongoing job for me, I more or less add a couple every time i get a paycheck :p

Any thoughts on the above?

Check out the new light setup :hump:

4x 26/100W Daylights, and 2x 26/100 Soft White, plus the AG Hood-lights.

Also, the plant I FIM'ed looks to be developing 3 growths from that spot! :)

kinda looks like balls in the second pic, are you sure that new growth, maybe im trippin

heh, yeah, they're just the tops of the FIMed plant. Definitely a poor pic...You can see the same structures in Pic 3 :)

@smitty: Actually, it's not that bad. All you really need is a "Outlet-->Socket" converter piece, and a socket-splitter Y-shaped piece. Both just a couple bucks at Home Depot.

Plants looking great! :hump: Thanks for explaining the light sockets, I've always wondered! :)

FoxFarm Freakin Rocks! Huge difference in growth, tons of goodness. Only downside, think my roots may be staining a bit from it...hope its just a trick of the light

Moved the AG hood up again! The topped plant doing fantastic, and the FIMed one is doing good as well, except that it stretched way too much to the side, as you can see from Pic 1 to Pic 3 to Pic 5 (but the one-day change from Pic 3 to Pic 5, wow!)
I took away the double CFL that was there to get it to stretch back upright, don't want her fallin over on me!

Check out the topped plant in Pics 1-->2-->4

PH seems to be consistently higher than I'd like it.... Can I just add some PH Down drops to the top-off water before I pour it in? Can't really drop it into the AG very well, what with all the plants and whatnot in the way....

Overall, I'm amazed just how much I've been able to grow in a month, with weak nutes and weak lighting. Whatever anyone else says, the AG is a GREAT tool for newbies! :weed:

Looking good leova! The FF nutes will definitely stain your roots.

You can adjust the pH of your top off water, just make sure you test it before you put it in your res to make sure its not out of wack.
