Sounds interesting, I think you should start a thread about this. I promise I won't bash it either. I don't know much about what your talking of but you may be correct. Lincoln didn't start the civil war to free the slaves, like most ppl think, that was just a secondary goal b/c northerners were pushing him for it.

you know what, if the farmers in Cali built their industry on the backs of criminals that's their problem, let it collapse! undocumented, criminal workers use all the same systems that legal citizens use. last i checked they go to emergency rooms (often), they use our roads, they send their kids to our schools and deplete extra resources because their parents don't even try to help with speaking English, they certainly make use of our criminal justice system.

close the border, keep the criminals out! severely punish the criminals who hire the alien criminals!!

So when there is no produce on the shelves, what then? I pose this question to people every time they tell me that our country can't afford illegal aliens..

Naw screw that. I can see your guys' points but I love diversity. Latinas are where it's at. Were are the beautiful hispanic women going to come from if we kick out half the hispanic population? Sure they cause problems, but trust me it's not as bad u guys make it sound. lincoln lived up to his reputation and was quite honest about what he thought of blacks. he thought they were inferior and were only good for votes (to his party) and generating tax revenue - those were the only two factors that mattered to him and, again, his own words make this clear. (see sig)

also, northerners were in no way "pushing" for an end to slavery. those pages of your federal history books are pure fiction. if there was any push for the end of slavery in the north the emancipation proclamation would have been written, or at least thought of, prior to the start of the war - not halfway through.

it might make a good thread, i'd love to see some yankees waive the Confederate flag once they know what it REALLY means! it's not a racist symbol and it never will be.

During the peak of the season, farms in Yuma County need 30,000 temporary workers a day, he said. The entire county's population is about 160,000, according to the 2000 census.
Last fall, even though there were willing workers just across the border in Mexico, the Pasquinelli farm and others like it in Arizona and California faced manpower shortages. The situation continues, caused by an insufficient number of visas being available for temporary workers and recent immigration enforcement efforts, Deacon Muthart said.
"Once upon a time the workforce was able to move freely back and forth," he said. "Then it got tighter."
Though most of the area's farm laborers live close enough to go home to Mexico at the end of the workday, they still need permits to legally work in the United States.
Employers nationwide estimate that about 500,000 immigrant workers are needed for low-skilled and unskilled jobs such as those in agriculture. The federal government issues just 5,000 visas a year for unskilled workers.

I agree that was a wonderful system, and if you hear the old timers in LA talk about it, it was one of the best times of their lives.

That program also had a path to citizenship.

I agree more of these American teenagers should be doing some hard labor to earn there keep. Too many of them are of the impression that the work is below them.

Times have changed most US citizens now live far from the fields. We are an urban society.

Where I live an illegal immigrant was just "captured?" after he drove an SUV through an outdoor cafe'. This was at least the third time he had entered the USA illegally.
