I voted for him and sadly, am dissapointed. I realize that to his credit, he has been hammered by the right on everything he has tried, but with his initial political capital, he should have forgone Bipartisanship and rolled full steam ahead on medical. Had he went for the medical bill upfront, I'm pretty sure he could have gotten a strong public option. By allowing the congress to fuck around for a year+, he has a real stinker of a bill that even may not pass. I'll either vote for him again or not vote at all, depends on what he can accomplish in the remaining months. If he loses health care, he's toast. He did promise a whole lot more than he's attempted, I wonder, did that ride on AF1 make him a slacker and just happy to be there.

I was more diehard-Hillary, but voted for Obama. It is not anything that Obama did so far that will make my vote go elsewhere, but rather realizations I have had by reading the variety of opinion on this website.
Obama has and will continue to be a transformative figure and will likely be re-elected. I say this based on the effect of the economy on American voters, despite the fact that the economy works independent of the president, at least for the most part.
On the plus side, I received so much more money back on my taxes this year. I got a $400 'making work pay' credit and did not have the first $2,400 of my UI benefits taxed, as well as some other shit I'm sure I did not catch. Hell, I almost forgave Bush his sins after the $600 check arrived and I hated his fucking guts. With all the money Obama saved me I may get over my slight disappointment in him thus far, especially considering he has more time to go.

i agree he should have gone for healthcare reform right out of the gate. i am not so sure he could have included a public option at that point. i don't think the house had solidified their support for the public option back then, and the senate still has not formalized their support for the public option as of today.
obama is very deliberate in what he does. sometimes i interpret that as a lack of committment.
these lists of broken campaign promises are a charade of extreme right angst.
he was campaning, or stumping, as they call it. those are his ideals at the time. his goals. his vision, his excitement.
find me one president that was able to fill government with his complete vision. it is impossbile. politics is not that simple. seems many on the right are.
they've got a list of broken promises as if they could be used in a court of law as prosecutorial eveidence.
healthcare is done. it will pass. it took 1 year. no wonder with the right fillibustering and delaying and consistently voting no on every peace of legislation that the left offered, and they did so because they knew the legislation was good, and worthy and sponsored by the democrats. they are obstrunctionists for political purposes.
so obabma is up against an obstructionist right and the voters a compiling lists of unfullfilled campaign promises. why isn't the right compiling lists of obstructionist politicians? stupid question. because the right approves the obstructionist behavior.
well i am one of those paying a minimum of $18,000 per year on healthcare for my family.
i am not looking for some kind of a handout. i don't consider healthcare a "right" either. and i don't think the government should provide healtchare.
but the government definitely has a right to regulate insurance companies. why? because they are ripping me, and millions of people, off. that's right. they are behaving badly. get it?

The broken promise of Obama does not lie in his failure to pass this or that because the people don't want it. It lies in the realization that he is not who he claimed to be and he does not represent anything new or fresh or transformative. He represents dirty low-down Chicago politics. Votes are bought, lives are destroyed and the end justifies the means. Obama was good at getting elected but he doesn't have the experience or the leadership to govern. He is a stuffed-shirt, Madison Avenue created front man for a hard left cabal whose effort to fundamentally change America with an Obama blitzkrieg has failed. He tricked the political center and independents and now they are pissed and don't trust anything he says.

I used to think like you do, that TheDemocrat was exactly what he purported to be, a hard core democrat. But now I think he is actually just a republican ACTING like a hardcore Dem and being very abrasive and hated by most just to make republicans look better.
Well it isn't working, it just makes democrats and republicans alike more polarizing. The vast majority of the people really do not have a political affiliation and will change positions whenever someone smooth and confident can dupe them into following their passionate rhetoric into the abyss.
