My DIY Veg Tent design. *Critique?*

Thank you Gibbs!(Any reference to NCIS? We love it!) I hope I can do right by you and my fellow RIU members. I will definitely do my best, but as you know, that OCC/ADD and occasional STML tends to lead to many edited posts!:joint::peace:

OH YA! there is a "detective Gibbs" or someone isnt there!? i forget, haven't watched that show in awhile, not big on TV, i try to watch "Dexter" every sunday though.

STML? dono what that stands for but no i know eh, we just get so into things! haha, but hey someone needs to, right!? lol.

Hey Gibbs, glad you showed up.

Hope are you recovering well, your saga really tore me up.

You sorted out a new plan, yet?

i dont get this viagro but this ALWAYS happends... you always reply when im online yet your green dot to show u are online is never lit up! trips me out everytime haha.. but ya man ive got a new grow plan in the works.. just waiting for all my new clones to root. I'm still torn up about what happend :( especially with my G13 and my SH-Early going without being cloned, i actually cryed man:( but i will find a new love amongst the marijane strains.. i still have "Peppy Le Purple" going which im still hopeing is "Purple Kush" and my "Number One" strain is still going which is some kind of kush that roots really quick and is a light green as apose to the dark rich green "Peppy Le Purple" strain of kush.. so as long as i keep these 2 strains going i think i can keep my head up lol

I guess I'm green dot deficient...LOL

Good to hear you landed on your feet. I didn't cry when I read your story, but I was tempted to. That was rough.

Cheers!

haha ya man i really dont get that!.. but ya bro you would of if you saw how beautiful the G13 was coming back, nice big bright green leaves! and the SH-Early, well i named her that becuz she showed sex within like 3 days of 12/12 so she would have bin perfect for SOG with no or little veg. time and OMG you should have smelt her WOW! it was like a fruity-piney-kush like smell, i couldnt believe it.

I wonder what kind of reflective qualities I could get out of laminated white paper?

Not suggesting that the other member is wrong, but from personal experience, mylar is by far superior than panda film or poly viscous, dimpled mylar will give you the best result for growing purposes.

what do you have to say about mirrors! i know its completely rediculously expensive but lets say one has enough for a 3'x3'x3' space.. OR you can go to a second hand store and shop around not that you would find the exact right sizes or anything but lets put all that aside... mirrors are obviously the best right!?

That's what I thought, but even mirrors don't reflect as well as flat-white surfaces. It's easy to test this, against mirrors or mylar, or anything, with a hand-held light meter

mirrors cause hot spots, use reflectix back with 1000 denier black nylon stitch that shit up on a sewing machine, add you flange kits for lights and vent, make any size you want for less then 200 including flanges and zippers etc

oh yes the light meter, duh haha.. i will grab one when i feel its important and test it out.. but i can actually kind of see how just flat white is the winner.. with a mirror it is reflecting EVERYTHING not just the light so there will be dark spots like a blue recycle bin in the way or something will end up being reflected into the grow room.. where as flat white will reflect JUST LIGHT which is all everyone is concerned about..

Well, here are the numbers I came up with last night. Went with 1X4" lumber, but still not sure I don't want that extra strength of a 2X4". Anyway, all prices are from a quick internet trip to HomeDepot, ecxept where noted:

56lf 1"X4"X8' 7@ $3.27/ea = $22.89
5X3/8" bolts 16@ $0.60/ea = $9.60
3/8" washers 32@ $0.13/ea = $4.16
3/8" wingnuts 16@ $0.58/ea = $9.28
1X4" fasteners 6@ $1.87/ea = $11.22
100 sq ft Panda film = $10.00(found online)
Drywall screws = $5.00 for a box

1 tent of my specifications = +/- $62.15/tx

Hey sorry i skipped a few pages to this point but i got to the point where you were talking about using drywall? There is something similar used for tile showers as a backing for it that is mold and mildew resistant. Its blue around here might be a different color but you could always prime and paint it to which ever color you want and than you got a few less worries about mold. You could probably pick it up at home depot or if not try a drywall supplier i'm sure they will know what you mean if you ask for it.

Also id have to agree with 2x2's

Once again, the RIU community comes through! Thank you for that info constant!

I have this same thread posted on three other forums in hopes of getting as many opinions as possible. The response has been pretty good, but nowhere close to the response I've gotten here. Post counts are higher elsewhere, and I've gathered good info, but the majority are either negative or OT. That being said, now that I've posted OT in my own thread:oops:, thank you all once again for all the quality responses.

So, it sounds like we have a consensus that the 2x2s will be better(good compromise between weith and strength). I will definitely be checing into alternate materials. While more expensive than Panda, I like the idea of it being so much faster to set up than if I have to re-wrap with Panda every time. I'll probably build on with Panda for budget reasons, but will definitely leave it open to upgrade.

Anyone know a good general contractor that would be interested in letting me pick their brains? I never thought about bathroom/shower materials before even though it now obviously lends itself to my needs. I love this learning and thinking outside the box, or tent that is!:joint:

I thought about that showerboard, too. But it's more expensive. We called it blueboard back when I was dealing with it, but it would be perfect. Stronger for modular purposes, and mold couldn't invade as easily as with drywall.

I like the idea of framing modular panels with the 2x2s, and assembling them with a portable drill and superscrews (or whatever). Drilling holes and assembling with bolts and wingnuts would work, but it's more labor intensive, and can loosen.

Anyway, how's it comng along? And, did you make it to the dispensary? Any Godbud?:joint:

Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, I made it there. Unfortunately, didn't have any Godbud. I did pick up some Lamb's Bread, a pure Sativa. Mmmmmm. Talk about getting the creative juices flowing. I picked up some outdoor that they have a special on right now. They've got a 1'X3'X3' display case full of mixed outdoor bud for $5/g. Call it their "Tornado Special". Nice mix.

I got my buddy signed up with them too, and he's going to allow me to grow under his rec as well. So, I picked up some seeds while I was there too. Blueberry Kush, Bubblegum Kush, and GDP X Bubblegum. Can't wait to get them in the dirt!

As for my build, I've been picking up materials as money becomes available and have been told(by my wife) that I need to wait until we move to start the build.

Just found out that the Bubblegum I got is a Bubblegum X Sour Diesel hybrid. Should be interesting. Never tried the Sour Diesel before.
