Redrum's right, but it can usually take a while to tell between the leaves. Usually Indica's grow shorter and bushier while Sativa's grow taller. Sativa's also take far longer to finish maturing during flowering if it helps (usually 7-10 weeks).

You should be able to tell which type the plant is by the time the second set (after the bean leaves) come out. Hybrids are a bit harder and take a little longer. I would say it would be obvious whether it is Sativa or Indica dominate by day 15 after they start towards the light.

True indicas r usually short n bushhy with fat leaf fingers;
True sativas are very tall, they can grow 10' to 20' feet outdoors with skinnier leaf figers. you shud be able 2 tell in at least 3 weeks.

And don't forget that MOST strains are a combination of sativa and indica, so you can only get a clue as to whether YOUR plant is sativa or indica "dominate", maybe!
However that said, the 2 fellows above are correct, "fat leaves", indica, "slim, narrow leaves", sativa.

There really isnt a way. Just gotta be patient.

If you purchased the beans then you should know what you purchased and if they are bagseed there is no way to know when; "dey just sprouted."

Even later you cannot be 100% positive just by leaf shape. Some crosses will look more indica but have more or a sativa high and some will look more sativa but have more of an indica stone. Toss in different phenotypes and it can become even more difficult to guess.

That's what you face when you grow mystery genetics. From start to finish you are dealing with something that is always at least partially an unknown.

YOU don't know middle ground?? When the plant matures somewhat, it's leaves will take their predetermined shape, just NOT when "dey first sprouted". It is NOT necessary to wait and "smoke" the shit to determine indica or sativa. Good luck...BB

Sorry, I must politely beg to differ. I see nothing in that photo or the "palm" of the hand that would in ANYWAY indicate the race of the body attached to it. And just what has that to do with sativa or indica? BB
