You can write a Long Essay on some Hot topic or Studies & ask for Grant Money to help Fund Your Studies.. so there is no Limit to how much $$ you can get.. it is how well the Idea is.. So if you are some brilliant mind & trying to improve on the world around you with innovative creations/ideas.. Write a paper, send it to the government asking for Funds to pursue it.

Yeah they split it up Urca. For the whole year I got like 5.5 grand, which split into like 1388 a semester before classes and books. Still, $500 is a good check to take 2 classes xD

I pretty much concur with what people have been saying. There are so many reasons why this is a bad idea.

You are lending money that you can't afford to lose. College money for crying out loud!
Doesn't sound like your brother absolutely needs this car, it's just that his life would be a lot nicer if he had it.
You are lending it to someone with no resources and can only offer promises.
You have no fallback position and it sounds like your mom doesnt have the money either.
The money is to be invested in a $1200 car?? $1200 cars have a way of turning into $50 cars overnight when something fails.
The driver of the vehicle, that you are going to investe in, is a young man - the worst possible risk.
It's morally questionable. The people who gave you the grant didn't intend it for this use.
If your mom cosigned then you are doing her a wrong too. She probably cosigned with the understanding that the money would be used for college.
