How can homeless people

I'm surprised you didn't mention the completely desolate and abandoned areas in the D that are completely run by wild dogs. I saw a deer that looked to be dead for at least a few days getting it's carcass picked clean by strays. Looked like National Geographic but in the ruins of Detroit.

i understand the whole companionship and how lonely it must be being homeless, but to be honest i have no compassion/sympathy for homeless people who use their dogs as tool to get the whole "cute factor" in their swindling people for change. one time i was walking up Haight street(anyone whose been to San Francisco knows that Haight is full of very aggressive and abrasive homeless people) so i usually prepare myself to just brush off all the stupid ignorant comments i recieve when i dont giv people my money, wich i dont have. but anyways i walk up massonic all stone face(stoned as well LOL) and i see a fat group of homeless people fighting over a old english 40 and i notice somenthing tiny and white at the bottom of my field of vision. i look down and a tear of joy rolls down my face as i see a little fluffy white puppy no larger than two fists wagging its inch and a half long tail prancing around my feet. id be a liar to tell you that i didnt want to swoop the puppy up into my jacket and continue on my way feeling justified in my rescue, an i would also be a liar to tell you anything other than that to this day i still regret not rescuing it from its cruel fate. because as i walk home through Haight street daily, i see the same tribe of douches, and no sign of the cutest, most innocent little puppy I have ever seen and shudder to think of what happened to it.....

dogs are just tool most of the time, just like a clever cardboard sign, or a cat, or an unneeded wheel chair ect.....

if you cant afford to support yourself how are you supposed to take care of a animal? especialy since most of the time youre more concerned with getting your next fix than a hot meal for yourself let alone for a dog......

i mean i know this isnt the case for EVERY homeless person with a dog, but more times than not it is....sadly
 
If I ever go homeless you'll see me huddled up with my beloved pup for the rest of our lives staying warm together...I love my dawg :D

I mean, people act like dogs were designed to be on a couch inside watching tv... I mean if anything, human or animal is in a climate that is dangerous, they should adapt or die, to make room for those that can adapt and overcome.

fuck those people, they are out there for a reason. id be more concerned about the dogs. this is america not africa. if your living in poverty 99.5% of the time its your own fault. (usually alcoholism mixed with a lazy fuck gene)
 
A dog could care less about the cold temps. Has someone already said this? I hope so... As long as they are being fed then who cares if they have dogs.

From 1988-1991 a team of poodles competed in the Iditarod. Most Yukon sled dogs are typical mutt mixes, often with less fat/fur than a lab; for instance all the German short hair pointer mixes in the arctic.

I'm very far from a fan of the homeless, but I've seen more homeless people feed their dogs before themselves than the other way around.
 
Not talking about the small breeds, most medium to large dogs can handle cold better than we can. Before we domesticated dogs, they lived outdoors in the wild.
If your homeless and cold, the heat from sleeping with the dog can keep you alive. There have been stories of young kids lost outside with a family dog in cold weather were saved due to the dog sharing it's body heat with the child. The child alone would of died.
Dogs are also scavengers, they can eat and survive on things we would never dare. The dog only wants some love, and I assume the homeless person does also. It more of an even trade off. A loyal pet will also protect its owner.
 
What if I had three dogs and I lost my job, wife left me, had no family, whatever, and it led to me being homeless. Give them to the humane society to be put down? Have my beloved pets killed, or let them live on the the streets with me and eat sandwich crusts? Considering the dog doesn't mind scraps and could care less about the temps Id have to say not killing them is the more humane approach. Are the homeless spending big bucks purchasing puppies that would otherwise go to wealthy families? Chances not...

I do value animal life over or equal to humans at times, being blunt. But as I stated before I don't think homeless people are 'bad' for keeping their dogs, neither do I have no regard for human life at all. Just a little less. Being perfectly honest and to-the-point.

Is it better for a person who loses their home to keep their dog with them, or to turn the dog over to a shelter where they will most likely be put to sleep

When I was younger and older people would talk about that stuff I always thought to my self "Now what the hell does the YOUTH-IN-ASIA have to do with killing sick people!!!" Haha that just popped into my head after reading your post.
 
What I don't understand is why homeless people don't get a goat or sheep, maybe some rabbits? You know, something you can eat.

The most you can do with a dog is make a coat... And you'd need a few dogs for that.
 
My brother used to work at a grocery store, and this homeless guy would always come in to buy shit with the money he made panhandeling. He ALWAYS bought dog food first. If that was all the money he had that all he got, he would go hungry before the dog did. For some of these people it's the last stable thing on their life.
 
Let's just put ALL the dogs on the street, and keep the homeless as pets. If they have a dog, the owner can let him keep it :)
Let's kick cats out too, that way the homeless people have a place to use the restroom :) We can train them to use liter boxes.

Because I'm pretty sure the dog just walks up to them, they don't buy it...
