gun law reform... please!

Chicago has some of the tuffest gun laws in the USA. Yet they have one of the highest violent crime rates in the USA. Could that be because
the criminals know no one has a gun? I think so.

Funny how stupid foreigners think they know shit about how our gov works
Even funnier when ignorant racist rednecks think they know how the world works.

You might not know this but most of the world laughs at rednecks driving around in a POS pickup w/ a rebel flag while pounding PBR's and lamenting about our Kenyan president to some Ted Nugent crap rock

So... new mass shooting in the US today. This one at a Sheik temple. It appears that some red neck thought they were Muslims (not that it would have been ok if they were). Is anyone else sick of this?

Media, on both sides, is making sure that we all hate each other. Its getting worse. We are no longer a society that is capable of being civil. Its time to do something about guns. I'm not saying we need to get rid of guns. But something has to be done. This clearly isn't working.
I hear they have great gun laws in cuba, need a one way ticket.

The thing they fear most is the proliferation of ideas of freedom. A man with a gun can be controlled, a man with an idea that speaks the truth scares the shit out of them.

there are a few legal firearms in my house. My gay partner owns them. They were his fathers. They are all locked in the gun safe. One of them is loaded. I know which one... in case anyone comes into my house. Its a totally different situation when I am out in society... where, IN AMERICA, everyone should be civil.
i take issue with the normative claim that "everyone should be civil"....It is in keeping with the current "prohibition" rhetoric used when anything bad happens. trans fat is bad, ban it. gay marriage is bad, ban it. guns are bad, ban them.

this is neither how laws function nor how they are intended to function. furthermore, the purpose of setting up a radically free state (i.e. America) was so that coercive, fascist claims about what everyone SHOULD do with his or her life would no longer be made. you were free to stand on one leg for two hours every thursday if that made you happy, or stab yourself with a fork repeatedly on tuesdays. The point is that, if you're not harming someone else's person or property, then you are within your rights to do whatever you want.

So this gets us into a difficult situation when you have sociopaths and psychopaths running about. These people are essentially taking advantage of the "security" we all feel. It would seem to me that the best thing we could do is get to know each other, stop fracturing our society via modalities of fear and xenophobia (i'm using this word more literally than its common usage here, harkening to the common linguistic root that exists between "foreign" and "strange").

The real issue with your call for everyone to "be civil" is that the term "civil" can be subjectively defined. what is civil for one person may not be for another. There are locales in which uttering the phrase "damn it" will get you fined for public indecency. there are locales in which the mainstream thinking deems public shows of affection between homosexuals uncivil. The long and short is, terrible things can happen anywhere, lets get over the notion that there's some single point of effort that would erase tragedy. Rather, we need to learn how to deal with tragedy in a productive way.

In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences that attend too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

just to clarify, i don't think trans fat, gay marriage, or guns are "bad."

The military and police are supposed to obey the constitution FIRST, before any fucking president. Maybe if they realize that they're not exempt from any of this, and that their own personal firearms will become illegal as well, they will not follow through with such a tyrannical act. We let a guy come in and run us, and he's not even a proven fucking citizen of this country. Then he wants to control things like this and everyone just seems to forget that YOU HAVE TO BE A CITIZEN TO BE PRESIDENT.

Did they specify the military? No. They said "government" which includes a hell of a lot more than the military.

Even with that being said, you can't tell me that a military memeber would look forward to going into a zone in which everyone he is trying to control has small arms.

The only thing laughable is your lack of insight of the military and it's role to defend the constitution.

The military's oath is to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

AL GORE IS THE biggest con man in the world. sure we are in a weather cycle. but thats what it is. a cycle. HOW THE HELL, ARE ALL OUR "SUV'S", AND INDUSTRY, GOING TO COMPETE WITH MILLIONS OF YEARS OF VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS, FOR GODS SAKE??? part of the problem wiht the money situation we are in. regulations, regulations,,,,going up every year. now, if a gnats fart escapes a smoke stack, we shut em down!!! and make em spend millions on removing gnats farts. all the while china dont even use treatment plants!!! theirs goes into the sea. they have NO CONCERN for the enviroment. we allways have! but the democrats allways seem to find ways to make us to blame! hate american first, is their latest motto. i have a book, from dr. mike savage. called "liberalism is a mental disorder." and i find it to be quite accurat. and guess what? when i was in my twenties , i felt the same. the same "entitlement" mentality, thats much of our current problem.
some of us have been over this ground before - Man creates many times the co2 that vulcanism creates. You seem to be perpetrating more rightist myth.

On China - you want to live there? Figure it is a much better place environmentaly than here?

In fact, there are a number of legitimate studies that indicate something other than what your Dr. Savage does.

Really, conservatives don't want gays to do what they please, are you sure you're not talking about the religious right fringe or the fact that conservatives and moderates alike are just against gays marrying?
And please tell us what rights conservatives are want taken away from women???? LOL

How about the fact liberals don't want anyone doing as they please without having a damn tax behind it.
Hell, if it were left up to liberals, we'd never get to use and enjoy a single square foot of American soil without the supervision of a politically correct, eco fucking friendly tour guide
.

The day people start believing that it is the President of the United States that gives us our rights to have and carry guns, is they day they believe he can take them away!

And I assure you, our government should be and does!
Gays want to get married and the right does not what them to do so. Simple as that. What rights conservatives want taken from women? The right to do as they please with their own body and the right to have their health concerns be between themselves and their Doctor.

The rest is changing the subject Beenthere, this was not about taxes or your conjecture about liberal behavior "if it were left up to liberals".

Your new "right" to carry firearms in national parks happens to be a right that this president "gave" you.

Show me some proof Beenthere, that this government "does" fear our firearms.

And exactly how much do you think those rednecks actually CARE about what the rest of the world thinks about them? Hmmm? While I certainly don't count myself among them, I'm guessing they couldn't give two shits what foreigners think about anything, let alone their lifestyle and beliefs. It's mostly politically correct, progressive douchebags that seek approval from other countries.

A FEW rednecks? If all one needs is a firearm to be denoted as a redneck, then rednecks make up 75%+ of the population since in the USA there are 90 guns for every 100 people. Putting non gun owners clearly in the minority.

How many politicians do you know who don't mind alienating 75%+ of the voting public?

I sure would hate to NOT be a redneck when the shooting starts.

There is no "Right" to carry a gun in a national park, there is the privilege. Presidents don't have the power to create rights.

If the government didn't fear firearms, then why do they use them?

FYI you still cannot arm yourself in 20 of those national parks.

FYI it wasn't Obama that got us to be able to carry in parks, that job was done by Senator Tom Coburn. And then only because of the Supreme Court decision. Just because the president signs it into law doesn't mean that he alone was responsible for the law in the first place.

Well said, the only thing is that the man with the idea must have a voice. Ideas trump guns every time.
