I have become a real big fan of California grown Zinfindel. It grows really well in Napa and Sonoma, as well as many other similar climates. It's a really full flavored grape, and takes on deep berry flavors. I like it because it doesn't have a sharp acidic charactor of like a Pino Noir for example, and doesn't have a real alchol aftertaste. It's just a yummy glass of wine you can really drink instead of having to nurse in sips. I can really get into my wine.

In general terms, "red".
But with a savory steak, an '89 or '90 Hermitage would be the stuff of dreams for me. I remember the '90 Hermitage "La Chapelle" when it was an infant ... awesome. One of the greatest wines I've ever had the privilege to taste. When the First Growths of Bordeaux are firing on all cylinders, they strain to match the mark set by a great Hermitage. Jmo.

I'd laid some down to enjoy in my age, but events turned against me and I had to liquidate my cellar. i had not many bottles, but there were colossi in green glass there. i regret not getting to taste them in their mature vigor. cn

lol, my friend must have piled on this huge ass pile of peppers on his steak.. i'm not a fan of fried onions either cn, but i do like them raw, figure that one out..
the peppers they had though were i think a sweet pepper.. i'm not sure though as i didn't indulge..
lol same here! I like raw onion (when i went to the Philly Cheesesteak place at the mall, i had to ask special: raw onions please! But so good with'm) but cannot abide grilled. And green peppers (annoying little puke smilie)
It sounds like I'd have fun going on a steak quest with you ... cn

i think it's the way prime rib is cooked that am not crazy about.. i like my steak to taste like it has been cooked proper on a grill..

years ago i used to work at a steak place and they were big on prime rib.. they would cook it slowly for hours and hours in what they called an ultrasham.. i guess it was just a brand name of the oven ... after they would slow cook it, they'd just put it in hot au jus to finish it off to however the customer liked it, ie, rare, mr, etc..

That's the best part of great food, what one person is turned off from is what another is so attracted to.

Thats what i really like about the east coast or places other then where i am from

Im a sucker for Italian food man... You got good out over there i bet...

Isnt those fighting gestures, someone taking your philly sammich?
lol, yah, it was crazy.. they sell the sammich's in one window, and you had to go to another window to get freedom fries, and drinks.. i gave my buddy the two steaks, and walked over to get drinks.. he went walking off to look at something on the wall, and when i turned around to sit down, there was only one sandwhich on the table.. nobody else was really around either.. damn $9 steak sandwhich walked off by itself it seemed...

and yah, i like a lot of italian food too... one of my favorite pizza places was just on the news a few weeks ago... on fire.. i've been quite upset since.. not sure if they're opened back up yet, but damn, i hope so..

Seems you do love your wines.

Are they expensive though?

Seems were are "polar" opposites. Lol

I love grilled anything, but dont really like raw onions or peppers. Chilpitines is about the only pepper i will eat raw.

The replacement cost for that cellar would be deep into the six figures. So ... yeah.

These days, I sometimes splurge and will buy a $15 bottle of a nice Pinot or Chardonnay. But my Fine Wine days are done, barring a miracle. cn

My ex was kind a like that. It made for a good time at restaurants ... i'd get her good stuff in return for the stuff she wanted off my plate. Good memories. cn

Wow! Six figures. How many bottles?

Sounds like you were big timing it back in the day

Like a chem professor at my university, he had like 30 chem patents and is a millionaire. He travels by private jet from his research lab to his classroom

Fucker has it made

Very intelligent as well..

You can get a bottle of Pennfolds for $12 and it's really good. It's kind of a myth that you have to spend a lot of money on wine to get a good bottle. Your local grocery store will carry a ton of good deals. One thing to look for is Australia is growing fantastic Syrah, which is a great red wine, and it's quite affordable. Also Spain is growing a ton of awsome wine, they have great Shiraz and Syrah, and cheap too. You don't have to go big to enjoy it for sure.

I love Zin as well ... had some Ridge bottlings that were truly their own thing. I don't drink it much any more however, because many CA Zins have caught "Cabernet Disease" and are, to my tastes, overoaked. cn

<add> heartily second bowlfulofbliss' Penfolds recommendation. Their Shiraz (as Syrah is called in bouncy rat land) and Shiraz/Cab are reliably yummy. cn

Is it a hassle to grow your own veggies?

Ive been intersted to grow my own organic veggies after seeing food inc
