look nice for a plant or two ..

but I would for sure go for the "4 inch cooling flange" option and a nice 4" ventilation and a filter/Alu tube to fit ..

but yea why not, a nice start kit, and its easy to upgrade later on, hard to cut up a 600W lamp ..

Are those standard security lights?? If they are grow lights, where did u get them? They seem to be doing the job well!

Im pretty sure standard security lights usually is made with a HPS bulb (if its the HID type) so why not, light is light as long as its in the right Kelvin .. you know most street light`s (at least in the old days) is made with HPS ..

I actually have this light and I would highly recommend it. I have 2x2 grow box in a closet that I use it for. As others said, get the flange. You can hook up a four inch fan to it and vent directly. It's actually easier for me to control temps with the hps vented than it is using cfls for veg.

I have an old security light lying around, it uses mh bulbs 500w max. Do u know of a way to bypass the sensor? So I can just plug it in and switch it on.

BTW

here is mine:

a used recondition 600W green house poot light, got it cheap with a new Philips bulb (2100K)

work, perfectly, German made and normally used in big commercial green houses, but had to make a cool hood for it ..

as HID lights do get hot, so yea get the cooling option and a good ventilation, with a filter, then you also have both the fresh air flow and odour controle in place ..

well Im no electrician (Im a smet/metal worker) but should be easy to locate the sensor and by pass it, or just tape/block the sensor so its on all the time (cept when your timer switch the power off)

Yh I'll give it a shot. Good idea about covering the sensor ! I never even thought about that lol. +rep for the d.I.y cool hood

np :)

I like to think out side the box :D

well I have to, and be creative in my job so solve problems or be on top of them, building big machines in stainless steel and Alu for the medical and textile industry..

also why my cool hood might look kind a nice to you, to me it work perfect as plan but I put it together in 3 lunch breaks and a few 10 minuts here and there, so its no beauty, but do the job .. made my temps drop +5C from 30-32C to 26C most of the time ..

ty

sorry for takeing over the thread, hope you can use some of all the info and the advice ..

So I'm wondering how good one of these would do >> ( http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-FLORALUX-150w-HPS-Mini-Grow-Light.asp ) in my small closet, I'm not sure how hot it would get with the ballast on the reflector like that... But it's a 60 dollar HID... Really can't beat the price.

Idk what do you guys think?

Ive had this grow light, and the same one from sunlight supply. Generates a decent amount of heat into your grow area. Make sure you have your air/venting situation down. I think HTG also has a version where the ballast is separate from the hood also, which was much better for my small 2x2 tent.

i use 8 40w cfl's with 1 150w hps street light. look in my threads for the hawaiian snow with pics, blury pics but she was a beauty, so yea the 150w hps will work for a small space, my heat issues was bad at first so i vented a window unit ac into the grow space, works great now
