The two don't come as a compulsory set. I respect veganism as a person's moral choice, but animal rights is a concept I reject as attempting to force an anthropomorphic corset onto nature itself. That becomes no longer an individual choice but an evangelical creed. You have the basic privilege to tell me to GFM if I question your not eating meat. You don't if it concerns someone not-you eating meat or wearing leather or or or.
I have considered closing the thread as you've requested but cannot find a compelling "why?" I see no behavior to which I can point justifying the closure. While I don't always agree with fdd, this time I do. Starting a thread in especially Politics and T&T does constitute a blanket invitation to what may come. It's my assessment that this thread not only conforms to site standards and the informal culture of thus section ... but has been pretty mild, considering. cn
i never laughed hysterically. i really did just eat a pound of bacon, 3 eggs and probably a 1/4 pound of cheese.
it's kinda like religion. others will accept your beliefs, but there is really no need to push it onto people. it seems every thread you post in you end up talking about being vegan. you are as guilty of coming down on meat eaters as we are at teasing you. maybe you should just back off a little and people won't come at you so hard.

Bear, There's a difference between the diet and vegan. The diet is strict vegetarian. Vegans are: the lifestyle, animal rights and diet.

The only place I see the expanded definition is on sites championing veganism, which leads to an immediate conflict of interest. You don't get to define words to your preferences, unless they are words of your own device. How do I know this? Because I do it all the time and get called on it.
Imo the animal-rights addition pushes what you preach/practice more in the direction of "deep ecology", esp. since I have seen you grant all life moral parity with human life. cn

I note that when Watson coined the term, it meant what I said. "The society" (per Wiki) extended the term to the crypto-Jainism you are using the term to describe. It seems that the vegan movement, like any faith, has its denominations. cn
