is it possible to use calcium carbonate to prevent calcium deficiency by watering the plants with it? if so how much per gallon of water/soil.. thanks

Well, the Cal/Mag are paired together for a reason... but if you have hard water, and go higher Cal with something like calcium carbonate, you can actually cause Mg def.. of which the first symptoms would look N-def, until you get rusted spots dotted throughout the leaves. Not recommended, but it's possible if you're careful and find another source for the Mg.

Fig is Exactly right...........and use an r.o. device if you have hard water- your grows will have a lot less problems.

Eggshells have calcium I would blend them up to a powder then apply I have had a shell cut the stem of one myplants an killd it
