please help me figure out why my cfls are so hot.

The ballast on the cfl is the part that emits the most heat. Turn on fan towards the base of the cfl and you will see the heat dissipate very quickly. About the distance, I would move them a little further away so they do not burn your plant. Usually an inch from your plant is the reccommended...

design me a grow room with every thing

Also, if you take the LED recommendation those tend to be MUCH more expensive than cfls. So, like I said, read up in the cfl section and then in other sections to figure out what you want to do

design me a grow room with every thing

Four feet should be plenty of room..and especially if you found it to be 5 1/2 you will be fine. Unless you're wanting to invest some cash and really get a decent amount out of this, that size will be perfect for you. Just switch the cycles over earlier..around 15-20 days if things are going...

    My Grow Box - suggestions??

Looks good for your first grow but you might want to straighten out those wires and find another box to grow in..that's a fire waitin to happen. One thing goes wrong when no one is home and that cardboard will be up in flames. I don't think insurance covers house fires caused by grow operations...

    dyi stealth grow box...any comments/suggestions?

looks good man, so did you veg for 3-1/2 months? if so now that youre flowering you will see a drastic growth increase (vertically) before you see a lot of horizontal growth..might want to look into adding additional space on top..nice setup, looks like it is working really well. good luck

I would say not bad for the night schedule, but if it keeps dropping then you are going to have a shock problem..what temperature is your room at when the lights are on?

Ott Lights? Anyone ever try them??

yeah i know, there website is crazy if you look around..but their cfl's are super expensive and really what you pay for is the engineering to put less strain on your eye and a better look for inside the house, which is something that you do not need.. someone gave me two free OTT-LITE T-12...

    Does Wal-Mart have daylight CFL?

6500k just has more of the blue spectrum, which is more ideal for the vegetative stage. I usually throw a few 5700k's in there though and it seems to help

    grow shed

go to the cfl section and read up there, there is a sticky at the top that will tell you everything..also, what is a 400mph? maybe you are referring to MH (metal halide) or HPS (high pressure sodium) and just didn't read up and combined the two? or are you talking miles per hour because if so...

    concerns

What problems are you worried about? I like to keep all my stuff off the ground and outside the box just for safety reasons
  16. millertime1

    Question! Look

18000k is the purple part of the light spectrum, you probably want to stay more towards the blue, around 6500k which is what your daylight cfl's are most likely burning. Save the power and just run two or three of the daylight cfl's, like what malady said, and when they start getting bigger pop...

    thinkng of going hydro

I've done soil and water..I like a lot about both but my favorite thing about hydro is that everything is basically on a timer, even the watering. I have an air pump that is on a timer with a foggger, lights that are on a different heavy duty timer, and lastly a water pump thats on a timer to...

need a socket for a 100watt (Actuall wattage) cfl tube light

If its what I'm thinking of, the one with either a two-pin or four-pin base and not a long tube such as in a T-5 setup or something, you will need a separate ballast..regular cfls have the ballast built in whereas those plug in bulbs you have are meant to be run with a separate one. Buy...
