1,000W HPS kit for only $220? From thelashop.com, good deal or junk?

For my next grow I want to make the switch from CFL's to HPS. I have been looking around and I came across this 1,000 watt kit for only $220 with free shipping. The kit includes a switchable HPS/MH ballast, HPS bulb, 6" Cool Tube Reflector, Ceramic Socket, Timer, and a set of Yoyo Grow Light Hangers. To me it sound almost too good to be true. I was wondering if anyone had any input on the quality of this ballast. Any information will be very appreciated. Here is the link to the kit.

the 65 percent savings is a joke. I see no warranty info up there, hell I spent almost twice that on ballast alone but got a 5 year warranty.

and if you're just making the switch you may want to think about lower wattage or possibly dimmable or both depending on your room and how ready you are to vent. 1000 watt lights put some heat out even being air cooled.

I have a portable ac unit for my grow room so I don't really see heat as too much of an issue. They only have a 30 day money back guarantee, I am contacting thelashop.com right now to see if the manufacture has any type of a warranty on the ballast.

Well I got in contact with them. They said the ballast is generic and they don't have any information on the manufacture. So no warranty, only a 30 day return policy. I'm still tempted because of the price, but I cant afford to throw away 220 bucks if it fails. Anyone ever bought from thelashop.com? If so was it a good or bad experience? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any recommendations for other 1,000 watt HPS kits under $250 please let me know. I can find just a ballast with a warranty for about $250 but I need to get the bulb, reflector, ballast and socket for under that.

those types of ballasts can be rebuilt in case of failure of a part, there's only like 3 parts, a transformer , a capacitor and an ignitor personally I've never owned a magnetic ballast and prefer digital and dimmable. and as far as the bulb I'm sure they sourced the cheapest they could find, I buy hortilux myself and those run 130 dollars or so.

if you live in a medical state craigslist is just full of people trying to turn used lights and such, some with very little use.

I had a 1000 watt that was new in the box(won it at my hydro shop in a raflle), I had no use for it and advertised it at like 175 dollars and not a single hit on it. I ended up trading it back to the hydro store I won it from for 120 dollars credit towards a real ballast and lamp.

for 220 itl get you by for a couple grows like olddude said then go buy a nice digital ballast and keep that one as a backup, its why i have a 40lb magnectic ballast sittin in my garage too... incase one of my lights fails i havea back up and backup bulbs... ill never forget how sad i was the second grow i ever did had a ballast crap out on me like 45 days into flowering adn the company wouldnt warranty the balast unless my local shop bought more of their ballasts, so the shop hooked me up with a brand new phantom and thats what i use.. but at that time i didnt have a spare so i was shit outta luck and had to chop.. now i always keep a spare ballast and bulbs.

ps the balast that shitted on me was an (advanced nutrients "badass") more like lame ass

Correct me if I'm wrong on this guys, but I have read with HPS, going over 600 watts is no longer efficient. The lumens per watt ratio you get from a 1,000 watt ballast cost's you more electricity than two 600 watt ballast together. I might just go ahead and get one 600 watt do a couple of grows and get another 600 watt later. What kit on amazon did you buy?

Thanks guys, seems like ipower has a reputation for selling quality products. I think im still going to go for the 600 watt, with 2 you have a better distribution of light than with one 1,000 watt plus I can save a little money on electric too. skefaman thanks for the great suggestion, cant wait until Friday to get my paycheck. Now I just need some nutes and sunshine mix and I will be all set to grow.

Glad to hear it man, you are right on going with the 600 watter's they are supposed to be more efficient plus going to big to early could make for some problems, just make sure you have some good ventilation to deal with any heat problems that may arise.

Price isn't everything. It has a small tube for that light. Cheap chinese product, I have a similar 400w ballast I use and it's mediocre, looking back I wish I would have just bought the legit one that's better on electricity and has a warranty...

The cooltube in that link is 19", here's what I ran into buying shit based on price: cooltube2.jpg
The cooltube on the right is well over 19" long and that's not a 1k watter...which has a much bigger bulb.....

My ballast has this white crystal shit on it after not using it for a while, looks like salt, again I don't buy based off price anymore.
