the runners should not be called rhizomes, as they reproduce from the roots. and mugan the runners dont need roots to be cut off and replanted, i would wait till theri is 1-2 leaves on the runner to do so though, i like to leave the runners on the vine and then get a small pot with dirt and place the runner plant on it untill it roots ( a few days to root) and then cut it off the mother once it is rooted enough

wtf, mate? The definition of the running strawberry is that it spreads by rhizome, reproducing through the root system. Not all rhizomes have to be underground.
Oh, I get it, you're saying the runner isn't a root yet, I guess.

Edit: I just read the first post in your Strawberry thread and it seems to make more sense now. I still think the runners spread via rhizome, tho'.
But I guess the runner is just a long stem that just sprouts roots.
Meh, I've gotta grow these things now.

i guess i could be wrong, and theri could be rhizomes above ground but is is rare. in the link you posted it says in the 1st sentence that rhizomes are usally found under ground.

Rhizomes are roots as far as I'm concerned.

yep yep, there is a guy who owns a timber yard and we go to him for it cuz he needs to get rid of it and we need mulch, its also great to put under the rabbits so that the manure gets mixed with it and its easier to spread it around . oooOO and it also helps make good garden loam if you add it every time you plants (air rates our dense red soil )
