I always veg 24/0 because I like the way the plants grow under it but most people here do 18/6 or 20/4.
As you gain experience with the subtle differances you'll find what works best for you

Depends if you’re in a rush or not and what you’re looking for. I grow out bag seed occasionally because I just enjoy seeing what comes of it. But I’m not on a plant count and I watch my plants daily so if it herms later etc. I’m prepared. If you’re just learning and not in a hurry for meds pop some of them as a trial n error.

I'm gonna try some 12/12 with bag seed just to up my experience.

The autos I'm running are on 18/6.
Fast Buds - BlueDream 'matic
SweetSeeds - DarkDevil
Royal Queen Seeds - StressKiller auto
Royal Queen Seeds - NorthernLights auto

Will be interesting to see what the difference in quality and quantity is.20190228_000100.jpg

The only advantage to auto's is being able to give them long days start to finish. There is no reason to run them at 12/12 or even 18/6.
If you want to do that you should be growing photo's.

The bagseed I have is presumably photo seed. I plan on running it at 12/12 from seed to gain experience with growing.

For example:
Able to learn male and female plants without wasting money on seeds.

Can afford to mess up because free seeds.

Learn to deal with adversity in strains due to unknown seed strain. (bag seed)

Dont have to wait for complete cycle to add plants.

Seems like a good way to polish skills.

Or you could just start the autos, when they are 30 days in(most autos should be done 70-90 days. NOT ALL WILL), plant photos and for last 40-60 days of autos they can veg and go to 12/12 when autos are fully done. You're grow, but trying autos on 12/12 and getting low results hurts and adds to the outdated stigma that autos are bad. Good luck either way.

I'm actually having an issue right now myself in that, being a dumb-dumb, I decided to pop some really old auto seeds with my batch of photos out of fear of the seeds going bad. Now I have two giant photo's that need to go to 12/12 and two really nice auto's whose yield will be reduced, and probably take longer to mature, because of it. Dropped 300$ on a 315w LEC light though and I am currently trying to do another small tent to house my photo's while my two auto's finish up. Anyways, yes auto's wouldn't be a bad choice to do quick runs on for practice, even though the seeds aren't always cheap.

Maybe a misunderstanding.
My autos are running 18/6. They do great on that schedule. Will continue to run those in their tent.

In addition to the autos, have another set-up with photos. Am planning on running some bag-seed in the photo tent on 12/12 as an experiment to compare to my autos(running 18/6).

Added benefit to me is the experience that comes with the unknown along with ability to add a plant at any time.

Then when my skills are honed more with the bag-seed 12/12, gonna run my known quality genetic photos.

So far my first experience with photo period plants has been less than stellar.

It is strange how some people just cannot seem to grow an auto, whereas some of us prefer them. I think that it relates to how much you like to prod, adjust, and manipulate the environment and nutrients. Auto's don't take well to that, they like the same ol' same ol' and tend to work better with people willing to just let them go and interfere as little as possible with their natural processes. Good luck with your experiment, I'd be interested in seeing what kind of plants you get running 12/12 from seed. Obviously won't be anything special, but I'm still curious!

Yeah, didn't catch on at 2 separate tents and light schedules. My fault on not reading. Photos are easier that autos so not sure what gives you troubles with them, but if you get autos down not even a reason to go back to 12/12 light switching. Be lazy and 18 hours today and forget and give 22 tomorrow and 24 for 2 days ect, ect, and still get a nice harvest with autos XD
