has anyone heard of or tried giving an 18/6 light schedule in the final week or 2 of flower just curious and asking for a friend who is starting to veg in his flower room

Never heard of it.

have heard of reducing the 12 hours light in favour of more dark to try and speed up ripening signalling to the plant that winter is approaching.

Never tried it myself. Usually, people do the opposite and reduce light in the final days/weeks. There is a reason we keep our veg and bloom rooms separate. You could always give it a shot and see what happens. Let us know how it works out.

I never would do that, but I have re-vegged a time or 2 and I'd say it's a great way to stop the ripening process and start it to re-veg mode.

Sounds like a good way to make it foxtail, that's where your buds stretch and semi-re-veg, and growers don't like it because it means stress is high and it will hurt in the end product. I just had it happen from heat when my AC went out, got a hermie, everything foxtailed and resin production reduced. If I can make them recover and start making new trichomes I'll do better, but not as well as if the stress didn't happen.
