Back from the weekend.. I think they liked the nutes! My room is starting to smell pretty great :D

So they're coming up to 4 weeks of veg. It's been about a week since I started the thread and I think they've made good progress. Any comments on when I should switch to 2700k + 12/12?

They've shot up:)! I'd say your good to go with 12/12 now or in a few days if you wanted to man.
Once you switch to 12/12 dont switch the lights for a week to ten days.
The plants will continue a vegative growth until they switch into flowering mode. The blue light for the first week will help reduce stretch.

I know right?? I guess my ghetto nute-measuring totally worked :D

Nice one that works really well with my current schedule actually. So the situation is that as of this friday (the 7th) i'll be away for about 10 days, until the following sunday. I know it's far from ideal, as this seems to be a relatively 'critical' stage.
I suppose my options are: Switch to 12/12 on friday, (without changing the lights, as you said), then to come back and change the lights once i'm back after that 10 day period.
The alternative would be to keep it on 18/6 for the whole time till I'm back. I'm worried though that when they stretch they're gonna get huge; especially after 2 more weeks of vegging!
Either way i'll leave some bottles of water ready-mixed with nutes and give instructions to one of my flatemates to do one watering sometime halfway through, which should be ample if even necessary. I suppose i'll also have to make sure the lights are pretty far away, huh? After seeing the growth from just 3 days away I'm seriously worried about them stretching and burning. I will tell my flatemates to let me know and/or move the lights if they're touching. But my setup is really awkward and I don't want to trouble them with trying to move the lights around.

Which one sounds best? I like the sound of hitting up 12/12 just before I leave; right? And do i start flowering nutes straight away or wait till the lights change over

Yh man I'd switch on friday, give them those days your away to switch to flowering. Just raise the lights an inch or 2. They may need moved again 5 days or so after your gone. Your flatmate can do that with the feed, maybe?
Don't introduce flower nutes until your back or until the first set of flowers develop. Have a good trip man :)

So am back once again after 10 days away from my plants. Left them in the care of my flatemate who did a good job; only let a couple of the leaves get burned then moved the lights etc.

They've been on 12/12 but still under 6400k lights for the whole time i've been away (10 days or so), and I just put the 2700k lights in (which also have higher overall wattage) and will keep them on 12/12 till the end now

How are they looking? They've stretched like crazy but the third shot shows i've still got a lot of upwards room, more than you can see in the picture tbh.

Creating quite a dense canopy now which is awesome; i feel like i'm getting the most out of my light setup that way. And am glad I didn't try FIM'ing or LST because they may have been way too bushy for the space.

Any obvious problems/deficiencies? Also when should I start flowering nutes? I don't think theyve sprouted pistils yet but I can't quite tell.

Alright I think you guys are over this thread now. One quick question though just incase someone happens to pass by.. Should I be waiting for them to dry out still before watering even though they're more mature? And is 500ml still an OK amount? Or should I be using more now. A little bit comes out the bottom when i do 500ml so I think that's ok, right? It would be silly to use 1L and have half of that all over the floor of my cab.

Im not done with your thread man. Just been busy with work and our new baby boy, he's 7 days old today :). I'd say water your gals until you get around 30% run off mate. In full bloom in a 6L pot. I'd expect them to drink around a liter each feed. Try to feed them a liter over the space of an hour. If you drench the soil the water can run down the inside edge of the pot and keep the outside of the soil wet but the middle can stay dry, if you get what I mean

Haha thanks bro no worries! Yep I totally get that. I think I've experienced it too.. I watered them 500ml about 20 mins ago; I'll go ahead and give them another 500 then and do it a bit slower. I'm using 2ml grow 1ml bloom (first bloom feed) per L

Also congrats man!

Whatsup guys a couple more pics and a few more questions once again :)

IMG_20140323_161525.jpgIMG_20140323_152858.jpg

So the girls have been on 12/12 now for a little over 2 weeks. Only switched to 2700k flowering spectrum about a week ago though.

Just checking in to make sure everything looks correct for this 'stage'. I've been having a few troubles trying to keep it dark for the whole 12 hours. I think i've just about overcome the problem these last couple of days. Note that they're still stretching like hell, upward growth showing no signs of slowing and i'm re-adjusting my CFLs practically once a day. This is a good sign right? And until they stop stretching the buds won't really start 'filling out' as far as i'm aware.

Anyway the shot of the pistils is the very top of the AK48 plant (what will hopefully become the main cola); does it look ok? I'm seeing more pistils on all the plants each day so I think they've really started flowering.

Yeehaa you have baby buds :) You really need to get that space dark during lights off bro. Don't want your gals herm'ing. The stretch should start to hault soon man. Adjusting lights everyday is a pain in the ass but worth it mate. All looks good tho mate, your well in track :)

Yep, good times! :)

Seriously appreciate the advice you're giving me mate it's really helping me out.

As for the light problems, I made a thread asking about it: https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/815645-how-dark-dark-during-night.html

I've described the issue and the setup in that thread, basically the problem is heat VS light penetration. If need be i'll close the flaps on my cab to make it totally black. But this would lead to my temps spiking and also surely my fan wouldn't be turning the air over fast enough

Hey man sorry I went cold on you guys!!

Yeah it has been going pretty good! A whole lot better than my first grow thats for sure, Theyve been growing happily although I stopped turning them round and moving the lights so they turned out a bit lopsided.

I think it's almost harvest time, at least for the AK. That's why I came down here! I've got a pic but it's not very clear whats going on. I can take better ones if it'd help you get an idea. Sadly ive got no microscope to look at the trichomes.

So here's the AK 48:IMG_20140512_145705.jpg

Turned out OK huh?? The buds are still swelling tbh so I think I could leave it a little bit longer yet, but it's been 9 weeks or so since I switched to 12/12, which should be enough according to most things ive read online.

Also would it be a good idea to harvest the top cola then leave the bottom buds for a bit longer to fatten up? They're pretty fluffy and small down there.

If you want as well I'll post some pics of the others as well as the pictures I took throughout the grow! :)

Peace
