400w HID/HPS Closet Grow (Edelweiss from clone)

Thought I would post some pics of my closet setup I got up and running again. Got a couple Edelweiss clones from a local dispensary, really not familiar with this strain at all...These pics were taken last week which was right around day 30 of flower. photo 2.JPGphoto 3.JPGphoto 4.JPGphoto 5.JPG

I topped these and did some late (light) LST to open the canopy...

Here is my closet set up, basically a 4'x2'x8' closet air cooled sun system 400w HID/HPS light with 4" 160 cfm inline fan that is ducted to attic....

Looks awesome, I just started(about 2 months) a closet grow, is definately a different type of situation as far as setting it up with limited space. Your plants look great, I really like that setup, looks really efficient. I have always grow in large rooms, so fitting everything in a closet is definately a work in progress. Good job.

Thanks everyone....I wish I had more space for sure! I want to upgrade to a 600 cool tube setup with larger 6" fan and exhaust. I am just worried about temps. Lights on I run around 78-82 (65-70 off). I just have the 4" 160 cfm now which does ok but is always on and at full throttle. When you open up the closet doors there panda papper covering the front. Put some of that in (with zipper) so I could close her up and ensure no light leaks....that created lots of negative pressure so I cut in a 4" hole towards the bottom and ran some ducting for better passive intake. Think maybe I am going to bump that up to 6" see if that helps....if I have it all zipped up when lights are on it raises temps a couple more degrees. Less seems to work better in this area if I run 4 plants it fills up that area pretty quickly and starts crowding things a bit. I have done a couple runs with just two plants and with some topping and training it fills the same space. This run I went back to soil but I have a 2' x 2' tray that I do an ebb and flow setup as well. I want to try a couple 5 gallon DWC buckets next but wondering if keeping my res temps down would be hard to do with my setup....especially now it is getting hotter.

I think I would go another direction actually. This thing is nice easy to setup plug in and stick any bulb in. Never had an issue with it and works for my limited space. Out of my closet I really only utilize a 2'x3' space for the grow. It is heavy so have to rig it to solid tie ups and raising and lowering isn't as easy. The ballast is built in and gets warm but when I touch the casing it is not bad at all. Ducting to exhaust comes in from the top and pulls through light and out front and is only 4" I have the glass in place and it stays pretty cool I can touch the glass and its not to hot with 160 cfm fan. For this space a 400 is perfect. I don't think I can go much bigger. But if I do upgrade I will get a dimable ballast 400 with a separate ballast and bigger hood for better light. 6" instead of 4" with a stronger fan. But it is a great light to just plug and play all in one setup.

thank you i really appreciate you taking the time to address my question

from the sounds of it the only negatives could be fixed with the smaller version i can't really fit a 400w in my stealth cab it would be a easy bake oven so i have to stick with 250
but you've made my decision easier thanks again good luck and stay high :bigjoint:

I have the identical fixture, and it works well for me. I agree what you said about it being heavy; besides that, the center of balance is off to the side of the ballast, making it even more awkward to handle. Once fixed in place, though, it works a champ.

Glad I could help. I will have to checkout your setup. Think the light would work great in a smaller space.

DSCI0046.jpgthe light i just bought

DSCI0047.jpgDSCI0048.jpgmy personal favorite strain bubblelicious she is beautiful they're on like day 2 of flower so she will double in size and look twice as nice in a few weeks
the one in back is a papaya she is moving really slow but i expect big things from her

DSCI0049.jpg
my northern lights long story short they were actally quadruplets at one point but i had been battling plyth with them since the begging i put them in soil and just fianlly got them back in the res i don't expect much from them other then maybe a big cola im only growing for personal smoke and i only smoke a couple times a week so if anything they will just be for fun i'll probably get at least 3-4 oz off my bubblelicious so its not a big deal i just bought that 250w we had been talking about so when that arrives im gonna put the 150 over them and give my bubb and papaya the 250

Looks like a nice setup. After I am done with this grow I am going to make some upgrades and see if I can't get better air flow and quit things down a bit more. Was thinking off adding a 4" to 6" connector on the ducting going out to the attic to see if I can increase CFM? Also thinking about a fan muffler or maybe just putting it up in the attic as well. Maybe I can make a fan box or something. Also want to work a little on my passive intake, either make it biigger 6" as well or maybe hook up a little fan to the 4" to bring more fresh air in. I have another closet that sits strait across from this one in this room...I am going to use that area to start some seeds and clone, possibly veg for a little bit and then get them in other closet. I have been starting and growing under the 400 but going to set up T5 for veg I think. I really want to do a DWC type setup this time but wondering how to manage res temps think it might get to hot?

Nice that looks super clean. I like it alot....so you are pulling air through your light ducted up to attic then to fan and pushing air out the carbon scrubber instead up pulling it?? I have thought about that as well and wondered how that would work. What kind of temps do you have in your closet? Also is that 6" ducting? Looks bigger to me in the pictures? Also is that normal ducting or is it a more rigid type?
