My electric bill last month increased 500 bucks, i calculated it and my increases should have been 75 bucks, so i walked around my yard, and sure enough in a fenced in area i almost never go since its no lawn or plants back there, just stone, an extension cord was being ran from an outlet in my house to my neighbors house.

Naturally i call the police, fixed that problem fast. Neighbors moving now, good riddence, not very neighborly to steel from you if you ask me.

very brave. lucky your neighbor didn't "accidently" fall and break a leg. good deal. do you get credit on your bill?

No no credit since dont know how much they took, other than comparing it to previous bills. I'm mostly just satisfied to see them go, they never would wave back when doing yard work, maybe seriel killers?

its funny you should say that, he was doing allot of sawing, he just moved in and was none stop running power tools. I think the cure for this would be a bouncing bet in my yard now on.

Wait a minute ... If you had a 500 dollar increase, and your neighbor was stealing your power, it seems to me that if you filed charges for theft, they would be forced by the court to reimburse you for the money you're out. Why not file charges against these low-life MoFo's??

No it was a 500 $ increase, and as far as courts go, in the US criminal court doesnt force reimbursement of the victim, thats civil court in which you pay your own money to file suit. I have done so in the past for a vehicle accident in which my car was totaled and the person who hit me while i was parked had no insurance, it ended up not really being worth it. Took me 2 years to get my money and by then i had bought another car 1 year and 11 months earlier.

Edit: oh and did file charges.

I did not know it was even possible to use $500 worth of electricity through ONE extension cord... He must have been running maximum power 24-7..

cool story!

i personaly would not have called the cops.. I would have just gone and talked to the guy. NEVER call the cops.. is sort of my modo..

You can recover up to $5000 in small claims court. Just take the police report with you. Worst case ... you'll get a judgement against the guy and his wages will be attached until you're paid in full. Bad people like this get away with this crap because good people like you do nothing.

Agreed, it perterbs me when you work hard for something and someone else feels it's theres by simple right of taking what they want.

What stops me from doing it, is costs to file and be represented will ending up costing on par with what I would get back, so wouldnt be worth it, plus the time i would spend on the process verses doing other things like having the HOA filing a lean on his property for unpaid fines for the barage of crap i went ahead and reported him for. He spent 12k on landscaping that was unapproved for his front yard. Now he has to tear it out in 60 days. Feeling pretty good about that. HOA is filing a lean until he pays to have it done, other wise he cant sell his house, and he cant pay the fine since he bought into a neighborhood he cant afford. No ones going to want to buy a house with just dirt in the front yard, nor can anyone while the lean is filed. So i pretty much fucked him.

Like i said he fucked with what i worked hard for so sucks to be him. Feels allot better than getting my 500 back.

yeah thats what I thought, but the reason he was stealing power from that one cord was probably to run a bunch of shit that eats up electricity so he doesnt have to pay for it.
